There was no specific reason behind my addiction. I grew up in a good and financially sound family. Both of my parents were well educated. But, they had ego problems. I shifted school when I was 10 and that has put me in depression. The teachers were very strict and I felt suffocated by them.
My parents got divorced and I started drinking and started hanging around with random guys. My life was totally out of control and alcohol was the only source of comfort for me. Slowly, it became an inseparable part of my life. Right now, I am in a stage where I cannot do without alcohol.
My friends have left me telling that they don't want to be with an addict. Now, I feel very lonely. I happened to attend a prayer mass last week. The speech given by the Pastor has influenced me. I want to get out of my addiction. I approached that Pastor for help and he said that there are outpatient addiction treatment programs available which can treat addiction without being hospitalized.
Is there anybody over here who has undergone an addiction recovery program? How much time will it take for me to come out of the addiction?

Well, my brother was/is ( never quite stop being one ) addicted to weed and xtc.
The first step is pretty obvious, admitting you have a problem. The next step is figuring out if could stop on your own. ( which isn't easy to admit )
Most people really need external help. and depending on your social predicament I would really advise doing that. driving miles to get help is part of the process. ( crazy as it sounds ).
The thing with addictions is the blame game. If you are serious about quitting start accepting ( lots and lots of accepting ) accepting that no one forced you to pick up the bottle.
I might sound rude/harsh but because of my personal experience with an addict I have heard it all. He is doing good now, but half his problems could have been helped by a good look in the mirror :D ( because an addiction is a lazy cop out, it a way of deflecting problems, or giving you a false answer to your problem, example : my dad hits me. I should confront him, but that's a hard thing to do. So i will look for something to numb my feelings/problems - rinse and repeat )

Looking at my brother, never you will always be drawn to it. The difference at one point you will be able to leave it.
Doesn't change the fact you want it still.
Same goes for me and my sigarets. a smokers never stop being a smoker hehe.
Addictions to different substances have different treatment and recovery times; my addiction was to cigarettes, was a heavy smoker for 30 years; but the day I decided to quit I out them down and haven't smoked a cigarette since; that was 8 years ago, and I do not have the urge to smoke, but it took a while...
there are many places that offer help and support for you; alcohol addiction is widespread, and you will find that there are numerous individuals out there willing to help and support you through it...
The mainissue is you;if you truly want to quit drinking and leave it behind, it is possible to do so; just believe in yourself and never give up.

Former smoker here. I just stopped cold turkey.
I see it as a matter of personal discipline. You set your goal and drive yourself to that end.
I failed many times, but got back up and forged ahead.
You can beat addiction if you make a sincere and dogged effort.
My humble $.02.
My dad was an alcoholic and he was able to get help by joining AA.
First step was admitting he had a problem. Which you have done. Second was realizing he couldn't do it himself and looked for help.
He joined in 1983 and was sober till he passed away in 2009. He became a sponsor and helped many others in his journey.
Once an alcoholic, always one. At the meetings when asked to say a few words, he would introduce himself by saying his name and then that he was an alcoholic.
"One day at a time" was the motto.
Finding others who also suffer from the disease, and being able to converse with them is the best "pill" that one can swallow.

On the contrary, Robo, we are about
