Title: Very Serious Los Alamos Situation

Treated as a minor detail in the media, this is potentially very serious.  Possible disarmament by default is no laughing matter.

This is not a serious issue except for how those idiots handled fuel rods. They need to brush up on basic nuclear physics.

The US produces nuclear materials at a number of sites. I assure you, there is no shortage of weapons-grade material.

Lots of nuclear material, yes ,but I understand this is the only facility for making nuclear weapons.

quite the contrary  8) but abvertising every facility we have is not exactly an intelligent move  8)

And we do a very substantial stockpile; the Trident missiles you are concerned about have been in service since the 80's

Of course, they can work with plutonium where ever they wish - but given that potentially disastrous maintenance issues already infest Los Alamos, what would these other facilities look like after years of budgetary neglect?

Nukes generate heat and radiation that degrades performance.  They exact shelf life is classified but Trident warheads approaching age 40 does not make for confidence.

Do you really believe that?

The US is really stupid this way. We advertise every strategic point, military and otherwise. We should be silent.

There are two aspects of the United States we need to bring under serious control, the intelligence community and the media. Both are running amok and, in the process, destroying the US from within.

I think the Guinness Book Of Records once listed plutonium as the most toxic substance on earth, so I think facilities working with it would be very limited.

The Los Alamos situation is part of a larger issue with the broader sense of infrastructure - skilled, experienced workers are lacking for many kinds of defense maintenance, including conventional warheads and naval repair.  F-18 fighter aircraft are becoming a scandal with crashes and down time.  I think this is related to financialization of the economy and poor budgetary planning.

Where I work, I ended up with exclusive use of a company pickup truck because none of the young men could drive stick. A young woman expressed puzzlement at a wisp of smoke arising from my work, as she had never seen soldering before.  I could go on....

Keep telling yourself that.  ::)

As regards your last paragraph, my ability to drive a stick was actually considered a job skill. And the girl? I'm not surprised.

There are a lot of really stupid, vacuous people out there.

The majority of the problem stems from the concept of no child left behind, that it is perfectly fine and dandy not to try hard to succeed. Over the last 30 years I have seen far too many people that have graduated from high school that can barely read or write  :o

Over the past 6 years I have fired 26 out of 30 people I hired because they were too lazy to work and expected to be treated like royalty.

Don't believe everything you read or are told for part of the security system itself is smoke and mirrors with a large dose of purposeful disinformation;
There is a facility within 200 miles of me that produces weapons grade plutonium, has been in operation for many years; and a facility within 200 miles of it that does the exact same thing as los Alamos did.
