Title: The SR-71 - A Fascinating 15 Minutes
Post by: Irene on July 29, 2017, 05:27:18 PM
Ran across this video this morning. It's a short about the Blackbird, filmed at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum with retired Blackbird pilot and museum docent, Buz Carpenter.

The SR-71 is my favorite bird. Kelly Johnson, its designer, actually drew the first rough sketch of it on a dinner napkin.

Loaded with fresh information, it runs 14:23 minutes -

Good video  8) although Buz is still pushing the standard line about the crafts top speed  :P

I have a flight log that covers a 21/2 hour flight; that's 30 minutes to warm it up and fuel,90 minutes flight time, and 30 minutes to cool it down so they could land; covered 10,200 nautical miles  8)

I know it's a fantastic story Irene LOL

I never tire of that one  ;)

Makes one wonder what we may hear in 40 years time "I remember being over some remote area hovering wondering what our groundspeed was and we registered click nothing. That was some achievement in the 80's"

One can only wonder mate !
