I saw one comment about that image that said "They're called, "bedding planes." Look it up in a geology book. Perfectly natural, but interesting as evidence of the presence of water in the past."
But, without a source number it could well be fake.

I think it is, as some parts of the image do not exist in the original photo, and that makes me think that someone "enhanced" those parts to make it look artificial.
