Title: Spain and Portugal temperatures could exceed Europes highest ever this week
Post by: astr0144 on August 01, 2018, 01:24:05 PM
Spain and Portugal temperatures could exceed 48C this week breaking all-time Europe record.

No doubt the Global Warming supporters have a good argument this summer so far and maybe yet to come..
as there many places around the World are having very high temperatures for long periods so far..

and its being predicted or suggested that temperatures in Spain and Portugal could exceed 48C (118 degs F )this week breaking the all-time record high for Europe.

The Met Office warned holidaymakers jetting off to southern Europe to take precautions in "extreme weather" as temperatures look set to hit the high 40s by Friday.

Forecaster Marco Petagna told the Standard that the Iberian region of Spain and the Algarve, in Portugal, could be hit by the hottest temperatures in 41 years.

Soaring temperatures could also extend into south-west France, the Met Office said.

Sky News forecaster Isobel Lang said: "Spain's record high is 47.3C and Portugal's is 47.4C but these temperatures could well be beaten.

"Southwest France could see temperatures locally top 40C.

The scorching heat could spark wildfires similar to blazes that swept across Greece last week killing at least 86 people, Spanish forecasters warned.

Intense heat sweeping the continent is unlikely to affect Britain due to a northerly wind expected to hit the south-east by Friday, Mr Petagna said.

But Brits are still set to bask in 31C heat by the weekend, he said.

He told the Standard: "The heat we had earlier this month did come in from Europe and was pulled in by a southern breeze but this time we are unlikely to be affected.

"Temperatures will hit 31C in the south-east by Friday and the weekend but a northerly breeze will hold the hot, dry air sweeping in from Europe at bay."

Temperatures are set to hit highs of 27C in the south-east and London on Wednesday with clear skies and bright sunshine expected.

I am, thanks. :)

But today we didn't get very high temperatures, only higher than we have had all the summer, but this summer we have temperatures well below the average. Today they reached around 30º (they predicted 35º), according to the thermometer I have outside my window. Some 25 years ago we had 43º in this region, and it was hard to support it, specially at night, when the temperature only went down to something like 35º.

As we don't have air conditioning at home or at work it could be complicated, but I'm not expecting it to be much worse than it was all those years ago. The problem is that I was some 25 years younger than I am now. :)

Just add ice :D

We have been above 40C to 46C for about 4 weeks now with 35C at night  Pretty normal here :D  We expect another 2 weeks at least  Few years back we hit 126F for a few days (52C)

AC bill runs about $400.00 a month during summer

Jesus answered: Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, "I am the Messiah," and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

So when you see standing in the holy place "the abomination that causes desolation," a spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.

Let no one on the housetop go down to take anything out of the house. Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.

Yesterday and today were hot days, but nothing special, the biggest problem is that we have been having temperatures that are too low for this time of year, so it was a big difference (around 10º C more than two days before).

The highest temperature I could see inside the house (at home and at work) was 27º C, something that a small fan could take care of. :)

It is a bit strange in terms of the Weather forcasts over the last 2 weeks...

We did have a very hot spell in 30sDeg C the UK for maybe 3 weeks in July.... then the last two weeks its been cooler.. but the weather forcasts kept saying it was going to get hotter again... but so far its only been effecting the South UK

Then then have been saying for the last few days just how it was in Spain and Porugal..

and an article today says its had some records in parts of Portugal... but its not broke the 48 deg C  country record...

They suggest that could occur this weekend..Or Tomorrow !

There have been some new records I believe in other parts of the World...like Japan for eg..

Hot, dusty and on fire: Portugal's heatwave breaks records

LISBON, Portugal (AP) — Eight places in Portugal broke local temperature records Friday as a wave of heat from North Africa swept across the Iberian peninsula — and officials predicted the scorching temperatures could get even worse over the weekend.

August 03, 2018

Temperatures built to around 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit) Friday in many inland areas of Portugal, and were expected to peak at 47 C (116.6 F) in some places Saturday. Large sections of Portugal are on red alert on the Civil Protection Agency's danger scale.

The highest temperature recorded Thursday, when the heat began to rise, was 45.2 C (113.4 F) near Abrantes, a town 150 kilometers (93 miles) northeast of the capital, Lisbon, the country's weather agency IPMA said.

Portugal's highest recorded temperature was 47.4 C (117.3 F) in 2003. Emergency services have issued a red alert through Sunday, placing extra services such as medical staff and firefighters on standby.

In Portugal's southern Alentejo province, streets were largely deserted. Some farmers chose to work during the night instead of in the heat of the day. Beaches around Lisbon, the capital, were packed.

Some 400 firefighters and five water-dropping aircraft, meanwhile, were battling a wildfire in southern Portugal's Algarve region. Portugal sees large wildfires every year, although unseasonably cool weather through the end of July has meant fewer blazes in 2018. The government says only about 15 percent of the 10-year average area has been charred so far this year.

Temperatures were being driven higher across the Iberian peninsula by a hot air mass moving northward from Africa, which is also bringing dust from the Sahara Desert, meteorologists said. The dust gave the sky a dark yellow hue in some places.

In Spain, heat warnings were also issued for 41 of the country's 50 provinces as temperatures were expected to reach up to 44 C (111.2 F). Spain's highest recorded temperature is 46.9 C (116.42 F) in Cordoba, a southern city, in July 2017.

The World Meteorological Organization says continental Europe's record is 48 C (118.4 F) in Greece in 1977. In northern Europe, Sweden was still under threat from wildfires, which in recent weeks have extended into the Arctic Circle.

Sweden's Civil Contingencies Agency warned of "a high risk" for wildfires in central and southern Sweden this weekend because of the continuing dry weather and strong winds. And over in Britain, an unusually long, torrid summer has taken its toll on the country's flowers. The supermarket chain Morrisons has begun selling "wonky" flowers that have not developed properly.

The U.K.'s Met Office weather service says July was the country's third-warmest month in more than a century. In Moscow, as temperatures rose to close to 30 C (86 F), city authorities announced they were opening hundreds of "cool rooms" where residents could rest amid air conditioning, with water dispensers and medical attendants.

Although that temperature is far below the blazing heat hitting southern Europe, it's well above the Russian capital's average August maximum of 23 C (73 F).

Jill Lawless in London, Jim Heintz in Moscow and Jan M. Olsen in Copenhagen, Denmark, contributed to this story.

Sorry, Armap.  My point was to show that extreme, anomalous weather conditions, to the point of being incompatible with human life, are predicted in the Bible; along with a number of other indicators of the same period, which are supposed to happen simultaneously.  Then again, it is true that the language used there, is not terribly specific.

My room keeps its temperature of 27º C, too hot for my taste.  :(

That's interesting, as I can't see one reference to weather in all those quotes, so instead of "not terribly specific" it sounds more like "irrelevant" to me. :)

Weather prediction is far from perfect, as it has too many variables that can change at any time, that's why predictions for more than 3 days usually have a low accuracy.

Another problem besides the high temperatures is the dust in the air, also coming from the north of Africa, like the heat. Even when the temperatures are at normal levels people are advised not to do exercise outside because of the amount of dust in the air.

The dust is enough to turn our usually clear blue skies into this. :(

Clark County has extended an air quality advisory through Sunday as smoke from wildfires in California continues to flow into the valley.

Ozone levels also are on the rise due to weather conditions.

High smoke and ozone levels can affect young children and older residents, as well as people with respiratory illnesses or heart disease, according to the county's department of air quality.

Saturday starts another warming trend with the high temperature climbing to 110 degrees. Sunday will also reach 110 degrees, but an excessive heat watch will usher in the new workweek, the weather service said.

Monday's high of 111 should begin the watch, set to last through Wednesday.

Tuesday's temperatures are forecast to climb to 112 degrees, which would break the previous daily record of 111, set in 1994. The weather service said the high of 112 will be repeated on Wednesday.

Cooling stations will be available throughout the valley during the excessive heat watch, according to a Clark County release.

No in fact the Ranch Fire Mendocino Complex just doubled in size since we looked a few hours ago. Gobbling  uf the national forest  I see one small one in Bakersfield where our event is but that should be out soon

The Carr Fire is now 145,000 acres  6 deaths  so far  and it is growing  Containment was 41% earlier is now at 27%

That one was started by a flat tire.  The guy drove with the rim causing sparks that touched off the dry grass at the side of the road

Here is a fire watch map

That hot weather is what we usually get in Portugal at that time of year, but as the Azores anticyclone has not been in its usual place over the Atlantic ocean but further north, those high temperatures have moved north.
