As many of us know, this tech is almost 100 years old! It will produce ozone! haha You could probably play music on it like some crazy flying speaker or something! lol Silly article describes it as being Star Trek inspired! They don't have a clue! I'll be some kooky fringe conspiracy theorists would know something! Video in link.
A new generation of flight: Revolutionary Star-trek inspired 'ion propulsion' plane engine with no moving parts is unveiled by MIT researchers (and it actually flies)
The five metre (16ft) wingspan glider-like plane has no moving parts
An 'ionic wind' of colliding electrically charged air molecules provides the thrust
It could prove to be the future of air travel, bringing an end to the noise
Unlike other planes, it also produces no greenhouse gases or other pollutants

I don't know why they're calling this an ion drive. The ion drives I've heard of, involve venting hydrogen through a giant jet, past a spark plug. They're also the ones you've seen in Star Wars, not Trek; and that is also why they have that big blue exhaust (https://youtu.be/1dZveoBfiww?t=1m27s) out the back.
This is some flying saucer type stuff AND that's not even the crazy part; that's the fact that it's only a matter of time before this ends up a children's toy.
Christmas 2020:
"The Newer Safer Toy Drone - The Turbonihilator 3k. No Moving Parts. No Sharp Blades. No Choking Hazard - Wifi and bluetooth enabled featuring AH-64 Augmented Reality Overlay and a free copy of Desert Deathslaughter with multiplayer and optional DLC expansion"
looks like a b2 engine, seems a little like townsend brown tech.they are missing the magnetic coil to take it to light speed.lol.its very inefficient design and will have to be loaded down with batteries.
they may as well inject fuel into the thing and gets some serious boost out of it.
i just dont see it putting out much thrust.it may work best at high altitude in windless conditions.
