Title: New planet founf by Kepler (Dubbed a puffy planet)
Post by: WhatTheHey on April 16, 2019, 10:27:42 PM
  :)  Kepler found a new "puffy" planet orbiting a known binary system.  Its close to us too, only 3340 light years away.  Got to love Kepler, it's a great tool for exploration.   8)  The planets in this system are all puffy, or better known in our system as gas giants.  But these planets are even less dense then our gas giants.  I wounder sometimes about harvesting various gasses from these type planets.  Like harvesting asteroids but gasses from planets like this, where we could fly through the right layer for instance, and collect what ever gas we need for fuel or sustaining atmospheric conditions. The various layers in atmospheres contain many type of useful gasses.  The separation of the layers would make it easier to collect only the gas desired. Seems like a good idea for future space craft design. Long range missions are getting closer.   8)

Only 3340 LY?  Okay so how long before they hear our first feeble radio signal?

::)

:o Zog, in terms of space and distance relative to the cosmos, (which is what we are talking about here) 3340 light years is pretty close, Zog. Remember the galaxy is about 100,000 light years across. By the way LOL since radio waves travel at the speed of light it would take 3340 years to get there! LOL  :P You answered your own question. lol
As I was talking about gathering fuel/gasses in the layers of planets like this I was thinking of what it would take to make a long range mission work.  This refers to (as things are now multi generation crews) trips that would take a very long time and require living in space as a civilization of space travelers in order to even under take them.
  But as you know technology is advancing faster then "we" know.  Sooner then we think there may be a way to even exceed the speed of light though space and time.  Then oh great and powerful Zog, we could be there in time to hear our own feeble carrier wave signal.  Don't sell humans short of this task! We may achieve this in a short time relative to the time line of human history.   Technology has and is moving forward in leaps and bounds.  :P

   Anybody know what happen to Zog the Great and powerful?   ???  Haven't seen him for a while.  Hope he's ok.   :)
