Whatever it is it's extremely old. Is it possible it's the actual core of the moon, it's position affected by Earth's gravity?

as to it being the actual core of the moon, it is greatly off center, and they do think it is metallic' the basin it is beneath is very large, which would be indicative of an impact and subsequent penetration...
