Title: Space Force 2019 News

This is current news and my living on the Space Coast in Florida, anything space excites me.  I know about the information about Naval Space Command on The Living Moon but I thought this was interesting.  More to come.

I posted this because rehashing old news over and over again gets boring.  Hoping this will spark renewed interest in all things Space.

Hey Maverick, space news is always cool. I am on the other side of the state. I got to see the usual shuttle launches from my front yard looking east. One time i was watching through binoculars and  saw something strange move through the clouds during a launch.

Of course I also got to see the shuttle blow up. I was in zephyrhills fl. and was watching it go up while i was out surveying a section line for Florida Power.

Congress has approved a compromise defense policy bill that creates a new Space Force in exchange for establishing paid parental leave for federal workers, as part of $738 billion for the Pentagon for 2020.

The Senate overwhelmingly approved the bill Tuesday, 82-8, just days after the House passed it, 377-48. The bill now goes to the White House for President Donald Trump's signature, and he has signaled he will sign the defense policy measure.

738 Billion for the defense budget; that is a number that boggles the mind, or it does my poor little grey matter  :o

Really does stimulate much thought about what all that is being spent on...

Thanks,Mav, keep digging, brother

From the article at the link:

QuoteRecently retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant General Steven L. Kwast gave a lecture last month that seems to further signal that the next major battlefield will be outer space. While military leadership rattling the space sabers is nothing new, Kwast's lecture included comments that heavily hint at the possibility that the United States military and its industry partners may have already developed next-generation technologies that have the potential to drastically change the aerospace field, and human civilization, forever. Is this mere posturing or could we actually be on the verge of making science fiction a reality?

Quote"The technology is on the engineering benches today. But most Americans and most members of Congress have not had time to really look deeply at what is going on here. But I've had the benefit of 33 years of studying and becoming friends with these scientists. This technology can be built today with technology that is not developmental to deliver any human being from any place on planet Earth to any other place in less than an hour."

QuoteLt. Gen. Kwast most recently served as Commander of the Air Education and Training Command (AETC) at Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA), but retired in August. According to some reports, Kwast was prematurely relieved of his duties at JBSA and blacklisted for promotion after speaking out on space-related issues despite a service-wide gag order. Kwast declined to comment on the reports and retired on September 1, 2019.

Very interesting indeed  8)

It's Official, Space Force is a new branch.

"Air Force officials on Friday told reporters that people are clamoring for information on how to join the military's latest branch. The short answer is, they're going to have to wait a while.

President Trump officially signed the Space Force into law Friday, but for now, all that means is everyone at Air Force Space Command will now be assigned to Space Force. Over the next 18 months, officials said, the finer details of manning and training the new branch will be hammered out and set in motion."

"It's going to be really important that we get this right. A uniform, a patch, a song ― it gets to the culture of a service," said Air Force Gen. Jay Raymond, the head of Air Force Space Command and U.S. Space Command, who will lead Space Force until a chief of space operations is confirmed by the Senate. "There's a lot of work going on toward that end. It's going to take a long time to get to that point, but that's not something we're going to roll out on day one."

Below is a portion of the article.  See the link above for the entire story from the Space Coast of Florida.

In addition to infrastructure, the new Space Command needs to figure out things like new uniforms and a logo.

"A uniform, a patch, a song — it gets to the culture of — of a service. And so we're not going to be in a rush to — to get something and not do that right. There's a lot of work going on towards that end," Raymond said.

It's assumed that the Space Force will continue to get its officers from the U.S. Air Force Academy for the foreseeable future, but perhaps will one day have its own institution.

Actually, most operations have been Air Force for a long time for at least the past 50 years.  I have lived on the Space Coast for almost that long and everything has been operated by the Air Force.  My opinion is the Navy had a secondary role.  Mybe it was smoke and mirrors before.

Space Flag is the Space Force's sole large-force employment exercise focused exclusively on gaining and maintaining space superiority. Space Flag exercises are dedicated to developing the skills, tactics, techniques and procedures space warfighters need to maintain in order to operate their systems to provide space capabilities to joint forces around the world. Participants simulated operations in a contested, degraded and operationally-limited environment with current capabilities against near peer adversaries.

Right now this is done in the virtual reality world.  Space Flag is modeled after the Air Force Red Flag training.

Top thread Spacemav  :D

Do the stars on the Space Force emblem have any significant meaning? in the UK military emblems follow heraldic forms and each element has significance - the delta shape "maybe" a nod to an unacknowledged spacecraft/aircraft program?

All those articles are "Fascinating" btw -  ;)

Space Force to manage secret US Air Force orbital mission with 'MORE EXPERIMENTS' than ever

QuoteThe mysterious X-37B space plane is set to blast off from a launch site in Florida. Its sixth mission is touted as the most action-packed to date, and the first where the US Space Force would be in charge

QuoteShedding some light on the upcoming mission, the USAF said that it would involve a FalconSat-8 satellite with "five experimental payloads" to "conduct several experiments on orbit." The particulars of these experiments remain murky, as the statement fell short of providing any further details.
Apart from that, two of the mission's experiments would be devoted to the study of the impact of "radiation and other space effects" on materials and seeds that are used to grow food. In another experiment, scientists will try to turn solar power into "radio frequency microwave energy which could then be transmitted to the ground."
https://www.rt.com/usa/487981-space-mysterious-plane-experiments/ (https://www.rt.com/usa/487981-space-mysterious-plane-experiments/)

I guess that's a nice name for direct energy weapon experiments.
