Title: At least 4 killed after magnitude-6.0 quake Italy
Post by: 1Worldwatcher on May 20, 2012, 03:39:50 PM
Was reading the news today and ran across this story, though I do believe we will be seeing more of the earth quake incidents in up and coming month's, it is heart wrenching to think that people will have to die due to our current Global catastrophe's.

QuoteCivil defence agency official Adriano Gumina said the quake was the worst in the region since the 1300s. It left bell towers cracked, chunks of church facades lying in the streets, and roofs caved in.

Just thought I would share this story, and do we have any member's in this part of the world?

Title: Aftershocks rattle Italy, residents sleep outdoors
Post by: 1Worldwatcher on May 21, 2012, 05:33:01 PM
QuoteFINALE EMILIA, Italy (Reuters) - Thousands of people in northern Italy slept in tents and cars overnight as more than 100 aftershocks rocked the area hit by a magnitude 6.0 earthquake that killed seven people and inflicted heavy damage to centuries-old cultural sites

I am almost betting that water front areas of the world will be experiencing this type of earthquake activity. Thought I would update my thread for those of youinterested in these events.

Wow, 1WW, what caught my eye was this phrase....thought to be safe from any seismic activity.....what could have caused it then?

At first I thought this was about the most recent earthquake in Italy, on May 29, that resulted in at least 16 deaths.

Another deadly earthquake shakes northern Italy (http://articles.cnn.com/2012-05-29/world/world_europe_italy-earthquake_1_58-magnitude-earthquake-60-magnitude-quake-quake-response?_s=PM:EUROPE)

Why do you say that?

Nobody that follow this type of activity would say that some place is  safe from seismic activity, as that can happen at any moment.

I heard yesterday on the radio that some people blame the construction of a huge natural gas deposit on that area, but I haven't looked into it.
