Scientists to unveil proof of 'God particle'
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/scientists-unveil-proof-god-particle-165431909.html
This is as big as the, well, big bang theory: Scientists working at the world's largest atom smasher say they have enough evidence of the long-sought-after Higgs boson.
To the layman, the Higgs boson is the "God particle" and a key puzzle piece in the scientific explanation of the origin of the universe. Physicists around the globe—and perhaps elsewhere, given the size of the universe—have invested billions of dollars in research and have been hunting for the Higgs boson for decades.
Researchers at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (or CERN) are expected to announce Wednesday that they have proof of its existence, reports The Associated Press.
The Higgs boson appeared 13.7 billion years ago in the chaos of the Big Bang and turned the flying debris into galaxies, stars and planets.
Its formal discovery, according to a broad scientific consensus, would be the greatest advance in knowledge of the universe in decades and a key to confirming the standard model of physics that explains what gives mass to matter and, by extension, how the universe was formed, according to the AP.
Rutgers University physicist Matt Strassler told Reuters that without the particle, "nothing like human beings, or the earth we live on, could exist."
Physicist Joseph Lykken of the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory near Chicago explained in an interview with National Public Radio the difficulty for physicists in tracking down Higgs boson.
"We think the Higgs boson is a manifestation of the fact that the universe is filled with a force that we haven't been able to detect yet that gives other particles mass," Lykken told NPR. "It exists for a billionth of a billionth of a billionth of a second, or something like that, and then falls apart into other particles."
Thus, scientists are in a bit of a quagmire, according to the AP. While they appear to have enough evidence to report the existence of the "God particle," they still hedge on whether to report "a discovery." It's a fine line, indeed, but one that scientists will likely continue to debate.
"I agree that any reasonable outside observer would say, 'It looks like a discovery,'" British theoretical physicist John Ellis, a professor at King's College London who has worked at CERN since the 1970s, told The Associated Press. "We've discovered something which is consistent with being a Higgs."
Oh, those wacky scientists.
Hey, Astr0! cool find.
And then cern 2 comes online, finding the creator of the god particle....And the beat goes on!:D
If they found it and have proof, it would be the smallest particle, but they actually say it turns into smaller particles, so wouldnt they be the god particles?
In a scalar universe, what is the smallest particle?
Cant wait to see it, or not...
Le
Hi L.E...
You are much more knowledgeable than me on such things...
but that is interesting what you say...
Almost every time it seems that they find one thing and it opens a new set of questions...almost seems infinite at times..
Lets hope that what ever they have discovered can at least enable us to have a better understanding of how it pieces together.
Look forward to their explanation and hope that we or at least someone can gain an understanding...
Hope we find out on Wednesday...!
Astro
Astro,
I agree with you. Each question answered just uncovers hundreds more...
but this is part of the learning process that we are lucky enough to be on and aware of! What is the smallest possible particle? How would we EVER know... Not really important.... what we discover in every stage is important.... not the end result....Hopefully there will always be horizons....
Proof of Higgs Boson leads to Higgs Field...What is Higgs Field ??...What is the difference between Zero-Point/Vacuum Domain, Aether and Higgs Field ??
I think so far mpc755's description of Aether Displacement still holds water (sorry).
No doubt it is part of the puzzle together with resonance..."...in the beginning there was a mighty sound" (Enuma Elish) or "..... in the beginning there was the word" (Old Testament).
Cosmic..
Hi Fellow Posters...
Thanks for your feedback / comments.
They released the news today that its official that Higgs proved correct and some other Scientists who doubted his theories including Prof Hawkins have had to own up and pay out their bets...
Yes Linda...you will only know from your fathers work how each discovery opens up a whole lot of new questions and maybe concerns as well as creating the excitement of what is going to come of it..
Will we see a whole new look at the Universe ?
Am I right in saying they are still working on what dark matter is ? and that it could be a huge part in explaining many missing links to the puzzle ! Im not sure if Higgs work may help towards helping them find the next part of the jigsaw puzzle that I suspect is all linked somehow.
That Hadron Collider at Cern is just unbelievable...
IF Star gates don't exist as yet.... you would think if they can create such machines as the H.C that t.G in the future especially if they have also discovered Parallel universes do exist..
Fascinating thought provoking times...

Yes, i just read an article that says CERN is 99.99% shore that they found the Higgs boson, they said they found a new boson that looks like the Higgs boson. This is Amazing they finally discovered it!-dcooper
;) ;D 8)
ok..you can toss the rotten tomatoes in a minute
but
i thought some levity would be appropriate
so here it is

Celestial Cattywumpus ~ 5 July 2012
After my last post, a reader reminded me of my format of placing the promotion first. Right. I let that slide. So back to it. If the information below resonates, you know what to do: schedule a consultation, buy a report - personal or relationship, and definitely get on board studying the volumes of information on my Galactic Trilogy CD.
Earlier today Ceres aligned with the lunar south node on her approach to Jupiter, who stands close with Venus - all of this in Gemini
Mars now approaches the Super-Galactic Center - a supermassive black hole that collects more than thirty galaxies, including ours, preparing for an ultimate galactic smorgasbord some time millions of years in the future.
Add to the above the fact that a coronal mass ejection left the Sun on the 4th and the indications are strong that more ejections might be stirring the atmosphere of the Earth over the next days. Of course, those operating below the umbrella of our planet's atmosphere will feel those buzzing vibes in the air and the resulting resident irritation and discombobulation.
V V V V V start here
Add to the above the fact that scientists believe they may have found the "God Particle," also known as the Higgs boson particle.
Welcome to Cattywumpus-ville.
Is the current cattywumpus causing confusion? That's likely. And it doesn't have to do so.
Let's work backward up this list to sort it all out.
Ah, the God Particle. There are two important things to consider here. Remember this search resulted in the propagation of ultra-paranoid conspiracy theories that the activation of the Large Hadron Collider would somehow manufacture mini black holes and the Earth split apart or be devoured. The point being: another theory of fear-based projection bites the dust. Second, there is no religious implication to the naming of this enigmatic subatomic thingamabob. The actual name comes from a proposed title for a book by Leon Lederman, who suggested the particle should be called the "god damn particle" because no one can find the gd thing. Publishers rejected his offensive title and soon thereafter, the media grabbed onto the God Particle label and ran with it. Physicists, including Higgs - a devout atheist - despise the moniker. So as physicists search for the how and why of the Big Bang, no surge in religious enthusiasm should be construed to be accompanying this discovery nor for any of the subsequent revelations. After all, the fact that the big bang took place whatever conjectured millions, billions, trillions of years ago remains inconvenient to the Biblical assessments of the age of Creation.
you can stop here ::)..had to copy everything becasue of copyright
Okay, onto the mundane effects of the Earth and earthlings receiving the high energy stimulation of solar emanation. As noted before in previous posts, this is the body, mind and spirit out of synch syndrome. With an irritating effect similar to a Chinook, Santa Ana or any other highly ionized wind, psychic coping mechanisms typically fail to stand on reactionary high ground. Should you be feeling annoyance that runs outside the bounds of life experience in the moment, do your best to get in nature and get grounded. If your local weather is inclement, take a few seconds to hug a tree or pet a philodendron, or do whatever connect with the Earth grounding drill you can conjure.
Once grounded, you may feel an unusual magnetism swirling about. This stirring comes from Mars aligning with the Super Galactic Center. It is as if there is a draw... an attraction to some place something that is powerful, amazing and ultimately attractive. The draw is real and if one follows the black hole bread crumbs they will lead straight to the doorway to one's spirit. The Super Galactic Center is the place where one truly bonds with the soul. It is mind with body, body with spirit, consciousness with soul. It can be as simple as a visualization in which you meet the master on the path - the master who has the answer you've been seeking. After asking the master's counsel and taking in the reply, check out the master's eyes. Should they look familiar that would be about right. The master's eyes should look just like yours, because they are.
An alternative would be to create a meditative process in which one dives off a high cliff with the goal of diving into the core of ones being. Or fighting a windmill that claims victory and captures you into the exact core of your being. It does not matter what the imagery is. The goal of Mars to the Super Galactic Center: take whatever action is required to fall into your center and stay there.
After the fall, so to speak, listen. Listening is one part of communication that the machine gun verbiage attributed to Gemini might have difficulty following. With Ceres, South Node, Jupiter and Venus all essentially aligned in Gemini, listening might be the most important navigation tool in this highly charged time. Turn off the iPod or whatever background distraction may be running. Turn the ambient noise of the heater, air conditioner, fish tank, ice maker into white noise and listen.
Locate your inner voice and listen carefully. There's a purpose for this. The purpose may be relocating a long-standing objective diminished by the busy-ness of life (South Node in Gemini). Regardless, the purpose remains paramount. Locate your inner voice and listen. Tune in, and after a comprehensive sitting with yourself, become an advocate (Ceres) for that voice. Reach out to Jupiter for the justification to pursue the agendas (Jupiter), dreams and desires (Venus) you hold for yourself. Without rationalization or battling any subconsciousness interference, claim your wishes as real and valid and set a self-fulfilling course to the destination of your goals.
You know, during the last days of Mars in Virgo (up until earlier this week) and feeling the surges of solar energy, it could have been a bit nasty out there in human interaction land. Insults added might have done more that kick those on the ground and vitriol may have spilled over in public online places. Mars, now on the Super Galactic Center, reminds you that if your best effort got panned by critics, reviewers, or the apparent gate keepers to your ultimate success in life, there are other places you can apply your talents. One negative review does not a consensus make. If tuned into your personal galactic center(s), you'll access the goods you bring to the metaphorical table.
Turn the table your way. Set your place, and sit a spell at the celebration of cattywumpus.
Finally, reread the first paragraph please. The needed links are below.
And for fun, here are some pictures of the Venus Transit that I took at Biosphere II.
