Assistance to entertainmentIn the mid-1990s, the CIA named Chase Brandon, an operations officer who was assigned to South America, as liaison to Hollywood.[12] Brandon's film credits include The Recruit, The Sum of All Fears, Enemy of the State, Bad Company and In the Company of Spies. He has consulted for television programs including The Agency, Alias and JAG. He has appeared on Discovery, Learning Channel, History Channel, PBS, A&E, and has been interviewed on E-Entertainment, Access Hollywood, and Entertainment Tonight.[13]

Patterson criticizes the CIA assistance as being only to complimentary productions, including not running material, such as "the original pilot episode of The Agency, which was pulled. It featured the spymasters preventing a plot by a Bin Laden-backed terrorist cell to blow up a fictionalized Harrods. The airing of such an episode might have pointed up the real CIA's corresponding lack of success in foiling the World Trade Center attacks."[12]

According to Brandon, the agency would not endorse Spy Game, starring Robert Redford and Brad Pitt. The final rewrite "showed our senior management in an insensitive light and we just wouldn't want to be a part of that kind of project", said Brandon, who also withheld approval from 24, a Fox series about a fictional intelligence agency, CTU, that also suggests all is not hunky-dory in the company's upper echelons. And The Bourne Identity, based on the 1984 novel by Robert Ludlum, was "so awful that I tossed it in the burn bag after page 25".[12]

Patterson observed "It used to be the case that if a movie explicitly condemned CIA actions - such as Under Fire - the studios could be counted on to bury it. That was no longer true after Costa-Gavras's Missing won Jack Lemmon an Oscar in 1982, and Iran-Contra slimed the CIA in the late 1980s. Since then, "CIA renegade" has become a dependable staple not just of big-budget movies like Enemy of the State, but also of a million straight-to-cable action-schlockfests starring Chuck Norris or Steven Seagal."[12]

In 2012, Tricia Jenkins released a book, The CIA in Hollywood: How the Agency Shapes Film and Television, which further documents the CIA's efforts at manipulating its public image through entertainment media from the 1990s to the present. The book explains that the CIA has used motion pictures to boost recruitment, mitigate public affairs disasters (like Aldrich Ames), bolster its own image, and even intimidate terrorists through disinformation campaigns.

Today, July 6, 2012, Robbie Graham and Matthew Alford have published a Silver Screen Saucer article that the authors submitted for publication to many media outlets such as the Huffington Post, the U. K. Telegraph, Roswell Daily Record, Albuquerque Journal, Los Angeles Times, Toronto Sun and the U. K. Guardian. Robbie Graham reports, "We were unable to find a mainstream outlet for our report, despite its conspicuous newsworthiness in light of this week's 65th anniversary of the Roswell incident."

In an email to Earthfiles and others on July 6, 2012, Robbie also wrote:

Senior CIA Official Claims Knowledge of Roswell-Alien Cover-up

Dear colleagues,

On 23 June, while speaking on Coast to Coast AM, the CIA's former liaison to the entertainment industry, Chase Brandon, made extraordinary claims about the Roswell incident, declaring:

"I also absolutely know as I sit here talking to you that there was a craft from beyond this world that crashed at Roswell, that the military picked up remains of not just the wreckage, but cadavers." Brandon then recounted an occasion when he saw direct proof of the alien nature of Roswell within the CIA's own Historical Intelligence Collection (HIC).

Based on what he claims to have seen in the HIC, Brandon stated unequivocally: "100 percent, guaranteed... Roswell happened. There was a craft, absolutely cadavers," but added, "Beyond that, I have no idea where anything else went." Brandon - who spent 25 years in the Agency's elite Clandestine Service - also sought to absolve the CIA of any on-going complicity in an active cover-up of the Roswell incident.

Truth or fiction, Brandon's statements are significant for the fact that he is, to date, the most senior CIA officer - former or serving - to have claimed direct knowledge of an alleged Roswell/alien cover-up.

Propaganda expert Dr Matthew Alford and I have co-authored an in-depth article examining Brandon's statements from every angle. The article includes exclusive responses from former high-level government officials and from the CIA itself. This story is yet to break in the mainstream media.

The article is attached to this email in Word document form. I have also just published it on my blog, Silver Screen Saucers:

...lots of other stuff here..you really need to go and read it all

Chase Brandon Interview Transcript (videotaped interview excerpt):

"I absolutely know as I sit here talking to you that there was a craft from beyond this world that crashed at Roswell. The military picked up remains of not just the wreckage, but cadavers. All of that was made public for a short while and then when the War Department - this was before the Pentagon and Department of Defense existed - but some 18 hours later when people back in Washington thought about what had been said and admitted to, the said, 'Oh, oh, this is not going to work.' Then the balloon thing came in and the big general came in and all the people down in Roswell suddenly they were transferred. You know, this thing went into cold storage. And why has it stayed that way?

Well, it stayed that way because back then people like Mac Brazel and Sheriff Wilcox and everybody else that knew what they knew because they had seen what they saw and smelled what they smelled with the decaying cadavers, they all bought into the notion that when the government says, 'Don't talk.' You don't talk. And when the government implies that it can bring pressures to bear if you do talk and they explain to you what those are, people with any degree of sense and concern about their family's well being and their financial nature, their property and everything else, they shut up and don't say anything.

And then the passage of time takes care of most of it because it sort of went away until many, many years later and underwent that miraculous revitalization. Now everybody knows about Roswell and everybody is torn between the evidence provided by the government - that it was weather balloons and other evidence that people continue to find and dredge up that says, 'No, damn it, something really amazing happened there!'

And in all of it, the way the Air Force handled it early on when the FBI was involved; the CIA's (later) involvement to include a study done on the UFOs published in our own Studies in Intelligence - an internal CIA publication, which was actually done in an unclassified form - a lot of that talks about the perception of reality, the misdirection of other peoples' perception by suggesting new realities. It's propaganda. It's Machiavellian.

Perhaps the most interesting of the entire piece.

Saying nothing more.

Thank you, Sky. How timely....released just as his novel is coming out. I'm not buying it...neither the book, nor this story.  But then I was born skeptical  While I can believe his credentials, I can't help but wonder this furor is meant to distract us from and I'm going to watch the latest Bourne Conspiracy flick with renewed interest, now.

Retired? Right.

This will be the second " senior CIA fella that has written a book that is hitting the stands.in the last few weeks. The second one is about an operative in Afghanistan and Tora Bora when they had Bin Laden  " In their cross hairs"... and had to let him go.

I suspect political ramifications here.... just as I do with Chase Brandons book..... but is that a surprise to anybody?
