OK, add this to your database. Just saw 3 lights, 5 minutes ago, looked like stars, moving from southeast to northwest, over central Ohio. No strobe, looked like stars, have seen these before but never 3 in a row, the first two were side by side and the 3rd trailed 20 seconds behind the first two. They look like they are at high altitude and I have looked at satellite orbit info sites before and do not see that anything is supposed to be over this part of the country and I don't think satellites would be that close together in orbit. A short time later, a plane, with strobes moved from west to east, see planes all the time, they don't look like stars. I see these one at a time frequently, does anybody else? Any ideas???
Cosmo
wow
yep i used to see that a lot.. lately we are clouded over most nights..
..seeing your stated location.. i think i might be in a fairly straight line from you on the east side
sitting on the patio we ususally have a clear view of the nw to west to south part of the sky
and what we see is usually from north to west or southwest
i have never observed three in a row but mostly one after another or two in tandem...also checked the satelites
then we had two stationary satelites - even have some in pics i shared in one of deuems threads
and they just dissappeared
you have several military bases there ..do you think one could be a terminal point?

already to late to modify so had to make another post :-[
sorry sorry sorry..
the photos in deuem thread didn't disappear
the statilites disappeared..
i really should proof read more... :-[
A grid reference and time/date would be good. Date was July 17th, 2012?
my location would be [redacted]
unknown elevation but looking northwest...
moving objects would be (two hands widths -thumb to pinky- above the horizon)
satilites were stationary and one hand width above the horizon
exactly nw
moving objects at a higher elevation than stantionary satilites and moving from north to west and sometimes north to nw and verging south
does that help or hinder?
[redacted coordinates by request - Zorgon]
I just don't have time to follow up right now.

We do have Wright Patterson to the West, but no way of telling if that is where they are heading or where they are from. There was no sound. I would think that even a fighter jet would be heard. Like I said, I see the single ones frequently, sometime following other points of the compass. I live in the country away from city lights so the night sky is perfect for viewing. Some of them get directly overhead and then disappear, almost as if they are heading out to space. Maybe the secret space fleet???
no sound on the ones i have seen either.. and if we didn't sit out
in the evenings we would never know they were up there
i'm out in the country also with no light polution
i think we need some really good night camera's

Yes, or maybe 3rd gen night vision like Ed Grimsley.
Hey, what do sky otters eat??? Sky fishes??? ;D ;D ;D ;)
anything they want.... ;)

Except Seagulls
Saw a seagull steal an otters fish once off LA... lying on his back, enjoying a nice snack and along comes this white vulture, swoops in and snags the fish
Seagulls are mean... :P

As to weird UFO like things..
Saw one a few months back just flew above the house, a large translucent amoeba like thing. I felt in before I saw it, was eerie. Just silently floated over the house.
almost like a ghost... or one of Zorgon's critters :o

I am so glad to be away from the light pollution. I spend a lot of time at night on my back deck in one of these from Cabelas:

Saves the neck strain! What would be nice to have is a telescope that could be controlled remotely, and had fine control, and was connected to a monitor and recorder.
Who is that guy that has taken some pics with a telescope that look like large alien craft???
White vulture! Ha! Good description!
Hey, there really are white vultures!!

So you or other members can follow up sightings with the background knowledge you need. If you look at the material that is.
The few real investigators who are on forums like this just can't follow up most of the time or we'd never complete ongoing work.
hey cosmo
cool chair..and we have turkey vultures here and hubby and i argue about a lone bird being an eagle or not..they are nesting within 5 miles down the river for the last 3 years..
so i say eagle and he says turkey vulture..lol

i refuse to take offense at that so please do not think this is a heated response
i figure that while we are both attempting to speak english there are still many
degrees of speech between us so my response is more for clarity and not arguement
so with that clarity in mind i will pick apart your response
So you or other members can follow up sightings
i feel very strongly that if anyone reading the head line of the thread and
wanting to follow up they would ..without being led to do so
then please excuse me from your denomination of The few
real investigators who are on forums like this
i am a back yard sky watcher and my observation is that and that only..an observation
that was connected to another similar observation
just can't follow up most of the time
my follow up was to check the charts on line as far as possible to rule out any listed craft
and posting here
mostly it is a topic for conversation of what i have seen and probably will continue to see
questions like these i really don't expect to get an answer to
is it our gov playing with new toys?..
is it the much talked about but never seen aliens.?
any further investigation is closed to me due to a number of things
age ~ money ~ time ~ giving a s hit ~ etc
so i will remain a loquacious back porch observer delighting in my ability to see the night sky
and talk to other folks who are doing the same
so if that is disapointing...sorry
but i feel honesty is the best policy

I wasn't attempting to lead anyone. I don't particularly mind whether you or anyone else follows up any case (although more researchers is always good).
I was giving that link because it has some great information for anyone who wants to become a UFO researcher. I'm just giving the information in the hope that more people study the subject with the best tools available. If even one reader learns one useful thing from that link I'll be delighted.
To be honest, your recent responses to my posts leave me with the impression that you don't understand where I'm coming from at all. I could have the wrong impression of course....

Yeah, love those camp recliners, would highly recommend one for night time sky watching and not bad for a nap either! We have turkey buzzards and a few eagles around here, have seen eagles in the field across from my house. When Exterminator mentioned white vultures, I thought of turkey buzzards too but did a search on white vulture, and was surprised how beautiful they are!
As far as serious ufo researching, I think I will leave the serious ufo research to, well, serious ufo researchers. It seems no matter how good the details are in a sighting, there would have to be one parked in my back yard with a souvenir stand set up for the skeptics to be convinced.
Here is a sighting that took place VERY close to where I live:
http://markturnersmysteriousworld.blogspot.com/2011/06/prospect-ohio-ufo-alien-sighting-662011.html
But back to the use of night vision, here is an interesting video and article about that. Seems they always have a "plausible" explanation.

our favorite summer fun is commin up in aug...(12-14) with the perseid meteors

..we pull the pick up out into the field ..put two cots in the truck bed and camp out for the night watching the stars
there is always some things of questionable origins to see..
oh..the reason for the truck in the field..well the cats and dogs like to go too and if they are in the truck bed.. i have some warning time if the racoons approach..hahahahah

My chair is cheaper man made materials, so you might be richer than me but similar positions we come from.

Yes sky otter! The Perseid meteor shower! I look for it every year too! I was in the mountains of California one year and the atmospheric conditions and timing was just right, and it was just an amazing spectacle!!!
It looked like this:
We saw THOUSANDS of them, the sky was lit up, now where near any light pollution and the sky was perfectly clear. That was in the early 80's and have not seen anything like it since, but I keep trying anyway! Let's hope this year it is clear and the timing is right!
cosmo..hopefully we will have comfy chairs for the back of the pickup instead of those cots..yipee..lol
here's some places for info on the meteor showers..the only thing i can say is try to see at least one in your lifetime
it's amazing
http://www.meteorwatch.org/2011/01/04/meteor-showers-for-2011-2012-ones-to-watch/
Persieds 2012
The Perseids peak of 12/13 August 2012 will feature a thin waning crescent moon that's visible in the sky from midnight, obscuring some of the Perseids.
http://stardate.org/nightsky/meteors
How can I best view a meteor shower?
Get away from the glow of city lights and toward the constellation from which the meteors will appear to radiate.
For example, drive north to view the Leonids. Driving south may lead you to darker skies, but the glow will dominate the northern horizon, where Leo rises. Perseid meteors will appear to "rain" into the atmosphere from the constellation Perseus, which rises in the northeast around 11 p.m. in mid-August.
After you've escaped the city glow, find a dark, secluded spot where oncoming car headlights will not periodically ruin your sensitive night vision. Look for state or city parks or other safe, dark sites.
Once you have settled at your observing spot, lie back or position yourself so the horizon appears at the edge of your peripheral vision, with the stars and sky filling your field of view. Meteors will instantly grab your attention as they streak by.
How do I know the sky is dark enough to see meteors?
If you can see each star of the Little Dipper, your eyes have "dark adapted," and your chosen site is probably dark enough. Under these conditions, you will see plenty of meteors.
What should I pack for meteor watching?
Treat meteor watching like you would the 4th of July fireworks. Pack comfortable chairs, bug spray, food and drinks, blankets, plus a red-filtered flashlight for reading maps and charts without ruining your night vision. Binoculars are not necessary. Your eyes will do just fine.
Hi Sky Otter,
I will be ready, I can just go out on the back deck. It would be great to see a display like I saw in the early 80's, that is why I check every year. My yard is fenced in so I don't have to worry about the racoons, and Cosmo will make sure that I am not disturbed! I have his son too! And a ferocious Chihuahua!!! It is a real circus. On clear nights lately I have been seeing meteors quite frequently. We must be passing through a space where there is more stuff or maybe it is just space junk. With all the solar flares lately, I was hoping to see a good display of northern lights. I saw one in the 70's that got clear down here and it was quite the show. With the sun in an active cycle, we may still get the opportunity. Enjoy the camp recliners!

Hey Z,
Yeah, that's a little pricey. Come on rich sponsor!!! :D One day I would like to head to the desert, maybe A51 way, maybe at a little altitude, with a camper and just spend a couple nights sky watching. I know that it would be better viewing that here in Ohio, due to atmospheric conditions. I think I'll stay away from skin walker ranch though, that place sounds a little scary!!!

There is a lot of scope for organising expeditions. To far for me at the moment though, especially with my finances stretcheeeeeeeeed......
Got one of these a while back...I dropped it in the water off the boat, but it took the most amazing sky pics in total darkness!
A much cheaper alternative for the amateur UFO hunter!
