My theory is that a multiple of cats is not linear to the trouble they can get into - it is exponential.

For example, one cat can get into a limited amount of trouble being that it can only (theoretically) be in one place at a time.

Two cats can get into 2 x 2 = 4 times as much trouble.
Three cats can get into 3 x 3 = 9 times as much trouble, and so on...

We have two cats - that's all the trouble we can clean up after !

I had a BF once that said the same thing...  The cuteness of cats goes up arithmetically according to the number of cats; the trouble goes up geometrically.
