British defence firms are testing sophisticated 'sense and avoid' systems on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over the Irish Sea

Unmanned spy drones could patrol Britain's shores looking for illegal immigrants and smugglers after a series of high-level meetings in Brussels, The Mail on Sunday has learned.

The European Commission aims to spend £260?million on its 'Eurosur' project, which includes a plan for surveillance drones to patrol the Mediterranean coast.

At the same time, several schemes are under way in Britain, aiming to develop civilian roles for aircraft based on the killer drones hunting Al Qaeda terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

On the look out: Drone pilots use a bank of high-resolution screens which play in real time images from the aircraft. (File picture)

Quote'We are very aware that the idea of "robot planes" flying in the sky can cause people to be alarmed, but the fact is that sense-and-detect technology designed to keep them safely away from other aircraft is currently being proved.'

Lambert Dopping-Hepenstal, Astraea's programme director, said the specially converted Jetstream aircraft being tested over the Irish Sea can detect and avoid other aircraft as easily as a piloted plane.

He was confident regulators would give UAVs the green light sooner rather than later. 'We might see some experimental uses of UAVs  by perhaps 2015, for example on coastguard patrol,' he said.

Privacy campaigner Nick Pickles, director of Big Brother Watch, believes that border surveillance drones may not be far off.

Jesus what a waste of taxpayers money, yet more eyes looking down on us!
bloody police state i tell ya if i could get every person in the uk to buy a simple
£5 green laser pointer we could have a mass protest and just blind these CCTV
cameras and maybe get a nice remote plane down to play with LOL

The fact is these cameras have done nothing to prevent people going missing
and being killed they are of NO use to the average person in the UK.

There is one camera for 14 people in the UK.
note how we are even paying an outside country for these drones. Disgusting.
Way to go in this recession Great Britain what a joke! why arnt we supplying these?
If we are going to use them at least lets build them ourselves and create a job market.

Quotehunting Al Qaeda terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan
Oh that old chestnut.
really this is getting so boring.

Once the USA have them, It would not be long before Europe and the U.K follow on....

The Military,  Police, Customs etc will be all for them..

Admittedly they have there uses for certain things...

But the thoughts of what they can be used for is some what very disturbing.

Alex Jones came across one flying in Texas on his way to work...

The Guy who was using it...seems to be using it to monitor the Roads..but A.J questions him about their potential for other uses....

It is no doubt concerning that we are being continually watched and observed.

They even have them the size of Insects...

If they want to send one to spy on an individual...they can..

I had a dragon fly land on a opposing house wall...where I rarely ever see such things....and if it had been or was a drone it could watch me from areas that normally would be almost impossible to be observed from.

I do believe that they can do this sort of thing if they desire to do so.

God knows what the outcome of all this is going to be..!

More reasons for a mini microwave beam weapon for all homeowners! 8)

AJ caught a guy testing a drone for a reason...they want him and us to see these things as being beneficial, and what better way to do so, than to place people out in the open and let them tell people the drones are for menial tasks. Reminds me of this....

Here come the drones!
Theyre not just for traffic control anymore!
