Hello All,
I accidentally let an infection get away from me on my left foot and now I have to have 2 toes amputated in order to save my foot
In order to help cover the expense of the surgery I am going to offer my toes for sale or at auction on E-Bay.
I will have an autographed photo of myself on the jar.
If anybody has any ideas for size or type of jar or what kind of fluid to put in the jar to keep the toe fresh I would greatly apprecate it.
No date for the surgery is set yet as there are a couple of tests they have to do to confirm surgery is needed. The toe bone is already sticking out of the skin so there is not much chance of saving it.
All the best and thanks for your help,
John

Wishing you all the best!
To keep the toe fresh, you will need Toe Jam!
May you be infection free!
There are some good ones available from DULCE LABS

You could use mason jars but they can pop open easily

Does Ebay allow body parts in their auctions? :o
Well John, you could see if these guys want them...

You might have better luck with ET-Bay....
I hope you're kidding...

:o Sorry to hear that.

Toss it in a large bottle of tequila. ;)
So sorry to hear of the issues, John. I wish I had advice on container and fluid. I might suggest formaldehyde...but that's so passé...
Hey, John, infections are pretty serious stuff, especially when amputation is in the cards..I wish you the best, sir..and a speedy recovery.
As for whatever to preserve the toes in..Plastination is the most current method..heres a link..not sure where to call, but until you can find someone, formaldehyde is the stuff. Plastination replaces the fats with plastic effectively preserving the specimen for a very long time, stablility wise.
Perhaps calling a taxidermist?

Be well, John

Sorry to hear the news John.
Here's hoping for the best!
Updates when you know more please.
wow.. hummmmmmmmmmm
well if the piggies are going to market..
might i suggest
for liquid..
vinegar for preservation
mixed with
honey to sweeten the loss
transport to market could be fun in this

and perhaps one of these jars

multiple sizes

or just a ball canning jar for someone who has those left to sell later ;)

wishing you well with the rest of your body parts
;D... 8)... :P
Time was, when people could take theiir body parts home in a jar of alcohol. Now it's all considered biohazard waste. Sending healing energy your way John. Watch your bloood sugar!

Sorry to hear about your foot John. :(I had a relative who started out that way but it would not heal after the operation .
They kept having to take more off until it ended up being the whole foot and up to mid calf before it would heal. I sure hope that will not be the case for you .
You are not having trouble with your blood sugar are you ? My relative had diabetes which was the main reason for the lack of healing .
Any way on a lighter note : how about some of that fancy Brandy you like so well in a mason jar with your toe in it !!
Nothing but the best for your toe John , plus with the good Brandy in there it should bring a better price right? ;D
I mentioned blood sugar because poorly controlled blood sugar is a commoncause of lower limb amputation. It often starts with a toe or two, then just keeps going. Chronic high blood sugar is known to cause nerve and ciculatory damage. Nerve damage can cause numbness, so you don't realize you're hurt. It can also cause constant burning pain, so you don't realize your hurt, because that pain is being masked. The circulatory damage means that the blood isn't getting the nutrients and oxygen to the area. Not trying to go all TMI here, just sharing some education. I've seen the before and after of diabetic foot problems. The after is actually prettier, which is disturbing, since it means that body parts are gone.

True, Shasta, I had an elderly friend who lost a foot after burning it with hot water in the tub..he couldnt feel it too well and scalded it by turning the heat up too high..:(
It eventually took his entire foot due to his diabetes..he lived on though, quite ok with a bit of help...until he passed a few years back.
Another off topic fact about him was he was a victim of either MK Ultra or some other test entity when in the Army..remember him from the Token when we talked about him? Frank McGavock?
He was a great man, who gave all for his country and I will never forget him. He is sorely missed.
John, you have many people here with your health in our hearts, you too are a special man like Frank and I personally wish you the best through your operation.
And if you take Hoss' advice, Remy Martin VSOP works good to make things feel better!;)
Be well, sir,
Dave
John.
Sorry let me Rephrase that:
Dear Captain John Lear,
It has come to my attention that You are the most extreme person that has changed a small population in this experience here on Earth. I compelling feel that its fit for you to become the first sponsered extreme athlete of all time. Not even Redbull could sponsor your Extreme and thats saying something mate ;D
I would like to think that your Toes become the drive and thrust of young Pilots worldwide when they compete to have the Captain John Lear Toe Trophy for winning the Reno Air Race.
Dear Reno Air Race,
Make that shit happen ASAP... Thanks.
;)
Gold for that suggestion, Soma! Indeed, those guys will tear up the pylon course for a trophy like that..every pilot knows who John Lear is!

Hey Dave... I thought John's liquor of choice was Napoleon Brandy ? , or is that what you are referring to ? I don't know too much about that top shelf stuff . I lean more towards Kentucky bourbon myself, how 'bout you ?
I sure hope John doesn't have any complications on his foot surgery. I watched my Grandfather go through the same thing, he was a little older than John though.
Hey, Hoss, ironically as I type this Im toasting a rocks glass full of Bullet Trace. ;D
Remy Martin is a fine cognac, sorta like brandy, a bit like brandy and really good scotch in one.
And for now, the toast is to John and his quick recovery!
Cheers, mate!
Dave
Remy Martin. I have to remember that. Maybe a bit at Samhein. Celebrate the new year, the time of waiting for the Sun to be reborn at Yule. The end of the month of sixty hour weeks.
Shasta
I have a glass of water. Heh. I can afford it!

I thought I was no good a research, whew !! I looked for couple hours , finally I decided to get the info from you and see why I could not find it . ha ha !!
I hope this helps with any skin condition anyone might have.
Recently I developed infection underneath my foot and couldnt work out how it developed because I didnt remember stepping on something I shouldnt. Went to the doctors, he said it was cellulitis and gave me some antibiotics.
Wasnt really clearing on antibiotics. But skywatcher, who is on here and also on another forum with me told me her daughter had cellulitis and she bought some Manuka honey - it has to be of 10 up to 25, not under that rating, so off I drove to the supermarket as we do not have any health shops in my semi rural area.
Found a small jar which was a 10, which was the highest I could get in my area and got home, soaked my foot, rubbed and rubbed this Manuka 10+ into it.
This morning when I looked there wasn't any more infection where there was before, so I washed it and rubbed more Manuka into it.
Skywatcher's daughter was treated for three days with this and it cleared up.
See if you can order some on the net John or maybe they have or can get some in that is higher than a 10 (not sure what that means but anyway) and soak and rub this in everyday and occlude it under a crepe bandage like I did.
It worked for skywatcher's daughter, is working for me, now try some for yourself.
Zorg see if you can bring this to John's attention please as it could really help him.
Your poor thing, sending big hug and speedy recovery.
Too bad you couldnt get out here, they would treat this in hospital without you having to pay hon.
Raw unpasteurized honey is a very potent antimicrobial. It sounds like Joh'n infection is deeper than cellulitis, possibly into the underlying tissues. Cellulitis can be a tough one on it's own. I've had a couple of times from cat bites and scratches. I need to find some local honey to have on hand. Thanks for the reminder.

Anything infection wise I would recommend MMS also. I have seen this work. I have a feeling Johns problem also is beyond this. If he can see bone he should be operated on pretty soon that can spread and gangrene. Also he may have Type 2 diabetes either way John you are in our prayers. Maybe we can help John raise money for his Dr bills ?? Any ideas ?? 8)
I think it is shocking he is left in this condition and has to get the money first to be treated in hospital. :o
My 89 year old mother just came out of a hospital just down the road from me. She had a total knee replacement done by a specialist, was in hospital for a week and it cost her nothing.

Hello John,
Sorry to read that you will be losing a couple of little piggies. I hope the rest of you is in good health.
All the best,
Tourmaline
;DGood news from the Lear compound , John's toes are still attached!! They managed to keep them on his foot so far and are healing up .
He has a nurse coming in 3 times a week to change the dressings and he is getting weened off the morphine so he be his jolly old self (wink)again!!
Big party at his house this December for his 70th B-day. I will post more details in another post .
:)Party info: This is from his thread on GLP, I'm sure that PRCer's are also welcome ;)
"Yep big party. GLP'ers are invited. Entry is one pack of Titan Phillies ( about $6) and your choice of beverage to
share with me. I can't drink alcohol but you are welcome to imbibe."
"The party runs from December 1, 2, 3 and 4. Be sure and tell the bouncer that you are a GLPer. He'll be the great big
guy at the gate with the black t-shirt that says "Shoot first..
ask questions later."
"If you are a girl, a bikini wold be considered appropriate attire."
"On Saturday and Tuesday evenings hors d'oevres will be
served.."
Be well John, and Happy Birthday.
:)More info on John and his toes, from GLP thread:
"I have had a nurse come mon, wed and fri to change the dressing on the open wounds on 2 toes of my left foot and the heel of my left foot. After about 6 weeks we are finally seeing some progress. Don't know how the wounds started but I waited way to long to get a doctor to look at them."
"I just barely avoided losing the toes."
"On the down side I was getting ready to auction them off on ebay after the surgery. I was going to get my friend Bob Lazar to donate a couple of locks of his hair to put in the jar with my toes to increase the value. But thats all down the drain now, so to speak."
"Fortunately my insurance covers the nurse and the supplies."
"I am getting weaned off of the morphine I was on 3 times a day to handle the pain. I should be off of it in about 2 months."
"Other than my toes and heel the pain comes primarily from an airplane accident in 1961 where I crushed my feet and ankles, broke both legs in 3 places, crushed my neck, lost my front teeth and had a concussion. 4 years ago I broke my back lifting propane tanks and had a hernia operation. Then I....oh never mind."
