Sad news from the UK... an amazing person with such a passion for astronomy!
Will be sadly missed, the times I stayed up late as a youngster and also later in life to watch "The sky at night", a television programme he presented for over 50 years, making him the longest-running host of the same television show ever.
A great guy!

QuoteUKIP leader Nigel Farage said: "Since I first met Sir Patrick when he dominated a UKIP stage in 1999, he has been a friend and an inspiration - not only to us in UKIP, but across the country and around the world. Today we have seen the passing of a true great, and a true Englishman."

A quote from the article above....
QuoteI met Sir Patrick as an 11 year old school boy, he was a fantastic lecturer with an unrivalled passion for Astronomy. We kept in touch and I had the pleasure of staying with him ten years later as a University student. He was a generous host and even made me a full english breakfast! Amongst all other things he was an amazing human being, a gentleman and did more for Science than we'll ever know.
