Title: Note to A51W on G Seaborg ...Royal Institution Christmas Lectures 2012
Post by: astr0144 on December 29, 2012, 02:22:27 AM
Watched an interesting TV program today that related to alchemists and the heavy / metal elements...

It covered the long time desire to convert base metals to Gold..

which I always thought as a myth...and to my surprise it has actually been done...

It was done by a Scientist called Glenn Seaborg !..

http://chemistry.about.com/cs/generalchemistry/a/aa050601a.htm

There are reports that Glenn Seaborg, 1951 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, succeeded in ... a minute quantity of lead (possibly en route from bismuth, in 1980) into gold.

A51 Watcher brought to my attention as being involved in the Nuclear research and possibly involved or connected with UFOs...

He also has an element named after him..

Seaborgium

The element seaborgium was named after Seaborg

Royal Institution Christmas Lectures 2012

2012: The Modern Alchemist, Episode 3: The Philosopher's Stone
For centuries alchemists have tried to turn base metals into gold. But is such a feat even possible? In the final Christmas Lecture, Dr Peter Wothers explores the elements within the earth and discovers just how difficult it is for chemists to extract the planet's greatest treasures. He discovers how our knowledge of the elements can allow us to levitate, turn carbon dioxide into diamonds and maybe turn lead into gold. Peter is joined by Nobel Prize-winning chemist Professor Sir Harry Kroto and together they find out whether a member of the audience is really worth their weight in gold and what happens when you set fire to a diamond.

Wow Sky !

What an observation !

Maybe somethings happen for a reason...! :-)

I have had a few strange things happen before when posting, so ya not the only one !

Good addition to the thread now I look at the likeness !
Not complaining....

otherwise, what I don't always understand is that sometimes when one posts, its possible to delete on some threads... but on others there is no option to do so. Not sure if the Mods can turn the feature on or off if they want or if some thread topics are set...

i read it was very small quantities but i believe it should be possible to do that with all the elements.
like turn lead into uranium.
then we can build the reactor for the pegasus battlestar.

probly cost more in electricity than the quantity of gold is worth.

The reason They did not go for more gold was that the energy costs would had them producing 1 million dollar an ounce gold.  Hardly cost effective.  It was more to say They did it, since doing it was the goal of the alchemists from old.

that alone was enough.proof it can be done.
this alone proved alot of subatomic properties are real.
before this it was just theory.
my hats off to them.

now what if we took an old junked freightor ,mounted solar cells on it and mined gold from seawater using electrolysis.
i wonder if that would be feasible and profitable?

What if We didn't need to be concerned with profit - or energy to create with...?

i think life would be dull.
i know some trust fund babies and they are screwed in the head.
striving to survive is healthy for the mind.
it promotes sanity.

I disagree.  And were these trust fund babies encouraged to find Their gift, Their bliss, and raised with a Betterment Ethic?

Probably not.  Probably They were raised with murmurs of how to screw Others to increase Their richness, given direction in nothing else.

Just sayin'.
