Ray Kurzweil, Google's Director Of Engineering, Wants To Bring The Dead Back To Life (VIDEO)

Inventor Ray Kurzweil hopes to develop ways for humans to live forever, and while he's at it, bring back his dead father.

Behind him is the support of a tech giant. This month, Kurzweil, a futurist, stepped into the role of Director of Engineering at Google, focusing on machine learning and language processing.

"There is a lot of suffering in the world," Kurzweil once said, according to Bloomberg. "Some of it can be overcome if we have the right solutions."

Since his father's death in 1970, Kurzweil has stored his keepsakes in hopes the data will one day be fed into a computer capable of creating a virtual version of him, Bloomberg reported. Interestingly, one of his novels lays out how humans might "transcend biology."

According to TechCrunch, his controversial theories are rooted in the idea of technological singularity, a time when humans and machines sync up to the point of nearly limitless advancement.

That idea, which interests Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, could happen as soon as 2030, Kurzweil says.

"We are a human machine civilization and we create these tools to make ourselves smarter," Kurzweil told Scientific American.

In his latest book, "How To Create A Mind: The Secret of Human Thought Revealed," he writes about wanting to engineer a computerized replica of the human brain. If we understand the brain well enough, he says, we would be better equipped to fix its problems, like mental and neurological illnesses.

He imagines a search engine capable of accessing a database of your thoughts, stored in the Cloud. It would anticipate what people are seeking before they even know.

Much of this may sound nearly impossible, but Kurzweil has been spot-on about technological forecasts in the past.

"In 1999, I said that in about a decade we would see technologies such as self-driving cars and mobile phones that could answer your questions, and people criticized these predictions as unrealistic," he said in a statement announcing his position at Google. "Fast forward a decade –- Google has demonstrated self-driving cars, and people are indeed asking questions of their Android phones."

Digital Trends places Kurzweil among the most-celebrated and recognized innovators of the last four decades. In 1976, several of his innovations converged into the first device that could read printed text out loud for the blind. He was 27 years old at the time.

Now, the next generation of inventors will learn from him. Google recently allotted more than $250,000 toward his graduate school, Singularity University, according to Bloomberg. After 10 weeks of a curriculum focusing on biotech, robots, and artificial intelligence, students -- forgoing a traditional degree -- create their own startups.

"I'm thrilled to be teaming up with Google to work on some of the hardest problems in computer science so we can turn the next decade's 'unrealistic' visions into reality," Kurzweil said in the statement.

LOL Sky, NP, I wanted too see what you were talking about, thats all my friend. ;)

As for the story itself, I am kind of figuring that will be the ultimate demise of the whole computer- Human interface connection. There has been  talk o f this for some time now, especially for institutionalized released offenders and such, then it was chip you r pet, thinking this was Guinea pig for human implants.
As for it being intuitively being designed for individuals of the impaired , this is a great step for both communication and over all self reliance, but the fact of the matter is that it may be a sign of both Morality and Mortality being the over whelming stigma of living for ever.
Matrix I am sure will chime in on this thread, it is right up his  alley for debate and conscientious awareness. I personally find it eery, but at the same time kind of what we do as a species of needing higher enlightenment for making better judgmental choices. If we had something like this already, may have been able to thwart such disastrous thing's such as the Conn. shootings, Columbine, etc. etc.
I think criminal minded people need this type of tech to keep them in check, but this is MPO.
I also think that they are going to start gearing up for smart technology for fire arms and ammunitions, this is going to hold these thinkers in check of doing something life changing for the victims, but most importantly for themselves.
Matrix has taught me much, and with discussions or ideas such as this, makes him even more understandable of our existence in the first place, what we 'Really' are and what drives the Universe as we know it. Can't put any money down that it is a sure bet, but, in retrospect, seemingly is coming to fruition none the less.
Great thread, enjoyed it as a big fan of "Whats next?" Kind of thinker.

With Great Respect,

;D

1ww
i am sure matrix will have something to say...i almost always agree with him even though
i try to do the kiss method and matrix is a detail man.. a very detailed man....i think the difference is only in the male/female way of communication..not in any difference of the subject
but it might be the sky otter/matrix way of explaining.. ;D ;)

anyway
reading this stuff i am soooooooooooo taken TO the stories of atlantis and it's supposed demise from too much tech
then
i go to my studies on why the hell we are here anyway..hahahahaah
my answer alwyas comes back to individual lessons not group think
i feel  each of us is here to learn in our own way and our own lessons
finding our way back to being complete
only helping along the way
and not  tyring  to redo the species with tech implants
but hey..call me a 60's child and we're good

Yes, Matrix is very very detailed in discussing, but it leaves me scratching my head for possible personal misunderstanding of who I actually am and what part I personally play with in this thing called life.
And as for your input, have been reading your stuff for some time Sky, even over at the other place!! ;)

See your point, never looked at it this way, so there I go again, getting edumakated, even in my 60's era thinking..LOL (Just an FYI) I am not very esoteric in nature, have tried, just can't buy into any of it, leaves too many wholes for explanation of the holes left behind for such explanations. Hope you understand, find it fascinating, just not really aware of anything, well, have been made aware of more since we have people like you, Matrix and a few others here. I will just have to admit, I will probably never know, not for sure anyway. At least not with in my living understanding..LOL

ahhh 1ww....
you are showing a strong masculine trail..more science oriented ..
but i don't consider myself in the esoteric batch..
more into the enquiring and using what i can get my hands on for info

as a youn'in i was very much a perfectionist type lol..but have learnt to see
that we are all perfect ... perfectly different and learning to accept ourselves
as is..and then make a desired change instead of being tossed around by
others ...
it was a bit easier for me cause i have never felt i had a peer group
so i was less inclined to follow anyone elses ideas..hahahahahah

i do take just a bit of task with your last  remark
I will just have to admit, I will probably never know, not for sure anyway. At least not with in my living understanding..LOL
if you are going to say stuff about yourself..try playing with the idea that thoughts
can make it so... and the hardest thing to change is your mind
once that is done.. awayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy you go

;D

thats why the word hate is a word i prefer not to be in my personal vocabulary.
the implications are too horrendous.
a curse that follows ones soul.

Kurzweil is a good example, of what can happen when somebody decides to adopt pre-quantum, Cartesian materialism as their view of reality.  As you can see, it's not a pretty picture.  The man is seriously mentally ill; and there is no way known that he should be in a position with that level of influence.
