Title: Space Debris
Post by: astr0144 on January 10, 2013, 10:08:00 PM
Just watched a TV program about Space...

and part of it discussed Space Debris...and some facts that I never realized that I found interesting.

It mentioned how many man made objects or particles that came from  earth that now circulate / orbit our planet..

Not only the larger objects like big Satellites & parts from space craft...but smaller objects that have come from collisions of these larger objects...that I don't think that I was aware about.

It said that if I recall.. that objects travel in space around the Earth at about 25,000 MPH .... and that two larger space Satellite objects had collided and smashed up creating thousands or millions of tiny pieces or particles..

It also referred to what just one tiny fleck of paint travelling at 25, 000 MPH.. did to the Space Shuttles front window...where it created a large crack in it..

This just shows how dangerous it is when going up into space.

I think it claimed that there are now over 35 million man made particles or objects orbiting around our Earth.. :o

This shows some of the information that was mentioned in my post or in the Program. that also shows a picture of the cracked space shuttles window.
