Title: Pointed message to China
Post by: Somamech on November 17, 2011, 06:03:31 PM
QuoteBARACK Obama has used the last day of his Australian visit to deliver a pointed message to China, pledging to use ''every element of American power'' to pursue security, prosperity and dignity for all in the Asia Pacific.

QuoteA day after the announcement of an increased American military presence in Australia drew a sharp response from Beijing, the President gave a sweeping outline of his vision for an expanded US role in the region.

I found this in the China Daily (USA version)

US, Australia military relations get closer

QuoteVisiting US President Barack Obama kisses Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard as he arrives in Canberra on Wednesday. The two leaders unveiled plans to deepen the US military presence in the Asia-Pacific, with 2,500 US marines operating out of a de facto base in northern Australia.

Some quotes:

QuoteIn response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin on Wednesday said renewing historic alliances might not be the best option. The United States and Australia have been defense treaty partners for 60 years, and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton just wrapped up a visit to the Philippines, a former US colony that also has a 60-year-old security pact with Washington.

"Faced with a gloomy global economy, whether broadening military alliances is an effective model for regional integration is worth discussing," he said during a regular news briefing in Beijing.

QuoteChandra Muzaffar, an international affairs analyst in Malaysia, was earlier quoted as saying by Xinhua that ASEAN countries may have been manipulated by the US.

"I don't think it is good for ASEAN to be so closely linked to the US because Washington has its own agenda as far as this region is concerned," said Muzaffar, a professor of Global Studies at the Science University of Malaysia.

QuoteChina rejects the idea of bringing any contentious issues to the forum because this would jeopardize existing regional dynamics, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu.

"Intervention by external forces will not help resolve the (South China Sea) issue. Until the issue is resolved, we should set differences aside and jointly develop the region," he said.

I think this confirms what the article says.

Some more headlights about this issue from today:

US military base enforcement in Darwin may spark tension in ASEAN

Quote"The United States needs to explain the troops placement in Darwin to ASEAN countries so as to abolish suspicions between countries in ASEAN," Hasanuddin was quoted by the largest news portal detik.com as saying.

A suspicion regarding the placement of US troops in Darwin was related to disputes between China, Vietnam, Brunei and the Philippines.

Obama asserts US a Pacific power

QuoteThe US military, turning its focus away from Iraq and Afghanistan, would be more broadly distributed in Asia, particularly Southeast Asia, more flexible and help build regional capacity, Obama told the Australian parliament.

"As we end today's wars, I have directed my national security team to make our presence and missions in the Asia Pacific a top priority," Obama said in a major speech on Washington's vision for the Asia-Pacific.

"As a result, reductions in US defense spending will not -I repeat, will not - come at the expense of the Asia Pacific."

Acknowledging China's concerns at the US moves, which Beijing sees as attempts by Washington to encircle it, Obama said he would seek greater cooperation with China.

"We'll seek more opportunities for cooperation with Beijing, including greater communication between our militaries to promote understanding and avoid miscalculation," he said.

"We will preserve our unique ability to project power and deter threats to peace," said Obama.

"With most of the world's nuclear powers and some half of humanity, Asia will largely define whether the century ahead will be marked by conflict or cooperation," he said.

"As a Pacific nation, the United States will play a larger and long-term role in shaping this region and its future..."

hey Soma....
i'm seeing all this stuff about china as some kind of smoke screen..
the google pics of stuff that is old news and the pres downunder kissin up (that's a yolk, son..) ;)

a lot of the stuff the u.s. launches is from the south pacific..so i'm just wondering what
is going on '''''''behind the scenes''"""' that we haven't sniffed out yet...??????
has china got something going on and need to be made to look like the bad guy..or what??

but our space program is kaput..except they are advertising for astronauts..i'll see if i can find that one again
and china, russia, japan are going gang busters ....i think we are back to smoke and mirrors

ah enough cliches for the day ;D
here's some interesting links to kinda point  why i am thinking this

Second Tiangong-1 And Shenzhou-8 docking to face light interference
by Staff Writers
Beijing (XNA) Nov 11, 2011

it's kind of a look mom no hands maneuver ;)

Third, while the combined unit is separating, the two spacecraft, under the action of the mechanical force, will be departing from each other gradually too.

Due to the imbalance of the acting force, relatively large stance fluctuation may appear and affect the normal evacuation.

How the relative stances of the two spacecraft should be controlled and the relative navigation should be maintained is also a key point for the second docking.

and the nasa ad..sorry can't get the vid to here..you'll havta go there

NASA Needs New Astronauts And Wants To Send Them To Mars

......
The space agency says it wants to go to Mars, and in its recruitment video, there's an artist's rendering of dust devils spinning across the Red Planet's surface.
.......
Competition will probably be tough since NASA says it will only pick between nine and 15 recruits who won't be named until the spring of 2013.

There are about 60 active astronauts but only a handful blast off into space each year. So why hire more? This fall, an expert panel advised NASA to hire more astronauts.

.....

international space station might not be the only destination. Financier Robert Bigelow doesn't have the vehicle to get into orbit, but he's tested two prototypes for his proposed Bigelow Space Complex. He'll need well-trained astronauts to staff it

ah we train em and then rent em out..interestinggggggggggg

Hopefully it isn't preparation for the biggest cull in he history of humanity.  China in a nuclear power and a future war with them is unthinkable.  They also happen to have an enormous population, like India.  Worrying stuff....
