NASA knew Columbia crew could die but chose not to tell them | The Raw Story (http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/02/01/nasa-knew-columbia-crew-would-die-but-chose-not-to-tell-them/)

It is reported that NASA knew its astronauts would burn up and die on re-entry.

I f**king swear....... every single day brings some new revelation, some unheard exposure.  Maybe if I could stop being shocked.....

Maybe that is the whole idea Eightman!
Overload your 'shock' system with so much stimulus, such as to 'jade' the senses of the public to 'controversy'.
Then, in the future, when more and more 'actual' revelations occur, the general public just say.... "Who cares"...... "Same old same old"....... "I've heard it all before"

We sincerely hope your head doesn't explode when you finally are able to grasp the enormity of the Ultimate Con Game; wrap your head around that one, friend.    :P

Great find - bring it on!

Not really, according to the quote:

Quote
Jon Harpold was the Director of Mission Operations, my supreme boss as a Flight Director. He had spent his early career in shuttle entry analysis. He knew more about shuttle entry than anybody; the guidance, the navigation, the flight control, the thermal environments and how to control them. After one of the MMTs when possible damage to the orbiter was discussed, he gave me his opinion: "You know, there is nothing we can do about damage to the TPS. If it has been damaged it's probably better not to know. I think the crew would rather not know. Don't you think it would be better for them to have a happy successful flight and die unexpectedly during entry than to stay on orbit, knowing that there was nothing to be done, until the air ran out?"

I was hard pressed to disagree. That mindset was widespread. Astronauts agreed. So don't blame an individual; looks for the organizational factors that lead to that kind of a mindset. Don't let them in your organization.

After the accident, when we were reconstituting the Mission Management Team, my words to them were "We are never ever going to say that there is nothing we can do."  That is hindsight.

Sure, whatever you say.

"that mindset was widespread"

Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.  Self censorship and that's that.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean by all that. ???

I live on the space coast here in Florida.  A friend of mine whose husband worked in NASA had heard that the astronauts could not be brought back.  Not enough fuel to change orbit to get to space station...they did not tell them what would probably happen.  I don't think I would want to know either.  Like most other government entities, the whole story seems to never come out.

I did notice a burst of stories seemingly out of nowhere appear on Yahoo right after this accusation was made.  The stories were about space shuttles and problems with them that didn't address the doomed astronaut story.  Coincidence?

More likely, NASA has a strong understanding with Yahoo News and tossed out a pile of distraction to cover their tracks.
