QuoteArtificial sweeteners especially aspartame has gotten a bad rap over the years, most likely due to studies showing they cause cancer. But not to worry Ajinomoto the company that makes
Aspartame has changed the name to AminoSweet. It has the same toxic ingredients but a nice new sounding name. And if you or your child happens to be allergic to Aspartame, well don't take it personally it's just business.
Despite the evidence gained over the years showing that aspartame is a dangerous toxin, it has remained on the global market . In continues to gain approval for use in new types of food despite evidence showing that it causes neurological brain damage, cancerous tumors, and endocrine disruption, among other things.
Most consumers are oblivious to the fact that Aspartame was invented as a drug but upon discovery of its' sweet taste was magically transformed from a drug to a food additive. HFA wants to warn our readers to beware of a wolf dressed up in sheep's clothing or in this case Aspartame dressed up as Aminosweet.
Awwww. How quaint, now I can sweeten my GMO strawberries with a natural sweetener!
Soon we will be seeing heart healthy pork, and low calorie heavy cream...aint marketing grand?
Thanks for the update Amy...
L.E certainly understand the issues with these big corporation tricks to market to us and the effects to infect us all...
Maybe its about time something more is done to put a stop to this evil crap that they keep getting away with...
If enough people become aware...Groups should stampede these Supermarkets to gain more attention by protesting to them to stop selling all this crap. >:(
Good find Amy.

Welcome. [smile] But.....
Never "protest!" LEGALLY "protest" means "We don't like it but will accept it." No wonder They keep doing things We "protest!" REBUKE Them!
Rat poison by any other name is still rat poison.

I have noticed that you can tell a lot about a person's belief 's by whether they drink it or avoid it. In my group of friends it is probably 50:50, that do drink diet sodas, and the group that does drink it are way more close minded. Also we (non drinkers) have tried to tell them of the dangers of it yet it changes nothing.
I guess that is why it is being sold. Well its working.
There's more than enough Kool-Aid for the masses, and plenty of red cups to put it in..it's a matter of the people finally dying and succcumbing to an advanced number of obscure cancers and diseases that will be the breaking point.
We now are on the starting line in the context of of the whole of mankind being duped, and like the sheep our brethren have always shown they are, as that whole, we are being drawn into the vortex of insanity spun up by our inactive food and drug agencies, which pander to whoever gives them the most funding and has the best lobbyists.
Shall we run the unwinnable race, or find a way to stop the cheaters in their tracks, by voting with our dollars?
Apathy is our worst enemy, and right now 95 percent of our fellow men and woman are showing their penchant for apathetic behaviour in every dollar they spend on this crap.
And sadly, only a defined physical action will make a difference at this point..letters and emails are leaves in the wind to them.
So I say it again, vote with your dollars, and everyone you meet, let them know what they are putting in their body, and give them links and proof to see, not just verbal opinions. A friend of mine prints and hands out cards with several websites which expound on the dangers of GMO food and other threats to our health and safety, along with on the other side, safe alternatives and sites to find them, perhaps thats a good place to start?

Despite the myriad of evidence gained over the years showing that aspartame is a dangerous toxin, it has remained on the global market with the exception of a few countries that have banned it. In fact, it continued to gain approval for use in new types of food despite evidence showing that it causes neurological brain damage, cancerous tumors, and endocrine disruption, among other things.
The details of aspartame's history are lengthy, but the point remains that the carcinogen was illegitimately approved as a food additive through heavy-handed prodding by a powerful corporation with its own interests in mind. Practically all drugs and food additives are approved by the FDA not because science shows they are safe but because companies essentially lobby the FDA with monetary payoffs and complete the agency's multi-million dollar approval process.
Changing aspartame's name to something that is "appealing and memorable", in Ajinomoto's own words, may hoodwink some but hopefully most will reject this clever marketing tactic as nothing more than a desperate attempt to preserve the company's multi-billion dollar cash cow. Do not be deceived.

(NaturalNews) In response to growing awareness about the dangers of artificial sweeteners, what does the manufacturer of one of the world's most notable artificial sweeteners do? Why, rename it and begin marketing it as natural, of course. This is precisely the strategy of Ajinomoto, maker of aspartame, which hopes to pull the wool over the eyes of the public with its rebranded version of aspartame, called "AminoSweet".
Over 25 years ago, aspartame was first introduced into the European food supply. Today, it is an everyday component of most diet beverages, sugar-free desserts, and chewing gums in countries worldwide. But the tides have been turning as the general public is waking up to the truth about artificial sweeteners like aspartame and the harm they cause to health. The latest aspartame marketing scheme is a desperate effort to indoctrinate the public into accepting the chemical sweetener as natural and safe, despite evidence to the contrary.
Aspartame was an accidental discovery by James Schlatter, a chemist who had been trying to produce an anti-ulcer pharmaceutical drug for G.D. Searle & Company back in 1965. Upon mixing aspartic acid and phenylalanine, two naturally-occurring amino acids, he discovered that the new compound had a sweet taste. The company merely changed its FDA approval application from drug to food additive and, voila, aspartame was born.
G.D. Searle & Company first patented aspartame in 1970. An internal memo released in the same year urged company executives to work on getting the FDA into the "habit of saying yes" and of encouraging a "subconscious spirit of participation" in getting the chemical approved.
G.D. Searle & Company submitted its first petition to the FDA in 1973 and fought for years to gain FDA approval, submitting its own safety studies that many believed were inadequate and deceptive. Despite numerous objections, including one from its own scientists, the company was able to convince the FDA to approve aspartame for commercial use in a few products in 1974, igniting a blaze of controversy.
In 1976, then FDA Commissioner Alexander Schmidt wrote a letter to Sen. Ted Kennedy expressing concern over the "questionable integrity of the basic safety data submitted for aspartame safety". FDA Chief Counsel Richard Merrill believed that a grand jury should investigate G.D. Searle & Company for lying about the safety of aspartame in its reports and for concealing evidence proving the chemical is unsafe for consumption.

I used to like chewing gum, but after I realized it contained rat poison, I tried to find gum without it. Next to impossible other than a couple of bubble gum varieties. So I haven't chewed gum in years.
Also my wife is careful to find yogurt without aspartame in it.
My father used to be a chain smoker, and after he decided to quit he took up chewing gum. Always had gum in his mouth, unless it was meal time or bedtime.
Anyways he passed away 2 years ago, and his memory was pretty well gone. I do think aspartame (and other pharma pills) all contributed to his demise.
sky, I don't even accept "sugar." Unless it says "CANE sugar," there is a VERY high probability that the "sugar" comes from GMO sugar beets.
So far, sugar cane has avoided the GMO invasion.
micjer, so glad I always hated gum... Sorry to hear about Your father.
You didn't know about the name change? ???
They have been using that name for years.
And no sweeteners for me, although all my grandparents and my father had diabetes. :)

Not in the US...
Funny, as the first reference I remember about it came from a person living in the US. :)
Well, I look at labels...AVIDLY, compulsively...and have never seen this listed as an ingredient in anything - but I HAVE seen aspartame in many, many things.
Wonder what happened to Neotame....
I actually have bad reactions to nutrasweet.
If I have one tablet nothing happens. If I have say 3 or more in a day I get diabetic symptoms which are very pronounced - to the point that I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and sent to a diabetic clinic by my GP.
The dietitican said I was cheating and having to much sugar - which i wasnt and the more sugar i avoided - the worse it got. Then I read a post a few years ago that said...... if you have uncontrollable diabetes try switching to sugar for a day - it wont kill you. That is probably dangerous advice for some - maybe should ask a doctor first. So I did. I felt a little better - so I continued and after 2 days I felt marvelous.
On my next checkup I was told something very odd had happened - my blood sugars were 100% normal.
I was totally disbelieved by the dietician and told nobody gets better from type 2 diabetes - I must have started behaving myself.
8 years later I am 61 - I have sugar in my coffee, am overweight and have normal blood sugar.
This used to happen to me - does this happen to you? Swill your mouth arround with nutra-sweeted cola...
My gums used to go numb - but not with regular cola - do yours?
hey johnny C
great story..thank you
and glad to hear you figured it out
my sister was a juvenile diebetic at 4 yrs old and as kids we learnt all kinds of stuff about food
and it kinda made me a health nut investigator thur life
now i use raw sugar (unbleached cane sugar) and unbleached coffee filters and as natural
as i can get with most things..no plastics just glass for storage and drinking
reading labels takes forever when shopping for a new product..but it's all worth it
but my latest gripe was with bryers ice cream that had three ingredients listed..it has now gone to
being labeled as frozen dessert and the list is two inches long...sigh
i'm sure you can tell us more
;D
sigh... this should be unbelievable..but it's not..we're f****** doomed
Aspartame In Milk A Possibility As Dairy Industry Seeks Approval
The Huffington Post | By Bonnie Kavoussi Posted: 02/26/2013 12:00 pm EST
| Updated: 02/27/2013 8:17 am EST
Last week, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) acknowledged a 2009 petition from the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) and the National Milk Producers Federation seeking permission to include artificial sweeteners in milk and other dairy products. The groups seek to use aspartame in milk but retain the ability to label their products as "milk."
The FDA asked for data related to Aspartame and other artificial sweeteners last week.
The agency currently lets the dairy industry use the "milk" label only for beverages with ingredients that have calories, like sugar and high-fructose corn syrup.
Aspartame is used in a range of products including diet soda and yogurt and is sold to consumers under the brand-name Equal (which also includes some other ingredients). Some researchers have found that artificial sweeteners alter people's brain chemistry making them crave higher-calorie foods, which in turn makes them more prone to obesity and diabetes.
The dairy lobby argues the opposite, claiming that allowing aspartame in milk would make it a healthier product and reduce childhood obesity by offering milk with fewer calories.

Artificial Sweeteners in Milk?
Got diet milk? In a highly controversial move, the dairy industry wants to market artificially sweetened milk—without any special label to alert consumers.
In a petition filed with the FDA, the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) and the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) seek to change the definition of "milk" so that chemical sweeteners like aspartame and sucralose can be used as optional ingredients not listed on the product label.
If the petition—originally filed in 2009 and now under consideration by the FDA—is successful, these hidden additives could also be included in 17 other dairy products—including whipping cream, low-fat and non-fat yogurt, eggnog, sweetened condensed milk, sour cream, and half-and-half—without requiring any special labeling.
The Truth about 4 Natural Sweeteners
A Move to Boost Kid Appeal of Milk Products
The dairy industry contends that using artificial sweeteners like aspartame as optional ingredients in milk and other dairy foods without any special labeling would "promote more healthy eating" and boost kid appeal. Currently, milk consumption is dropping among both children and adults.
In part, the petition states:
IDFA and NMPF argue that nutrient content claims such as "reduced calorie" are not attractive to children and maintain that consumers can more easily identify the overall nutritional value of milk products that are flavored with non-nutritive sweeteners if the labels do not include such claims. Further, the petitioners assert that consumers do not recognize milk—including flavored milk—as necessarily containing sugar. Accordingly, the petitioners state that milk flavored with non-nutritive sweeteners should be labeled as milk without further claims so that consumers can "more easily identify its overall nutritional value."
The goal of the petition is to persuade the FDA to drop a requirement that milk and other dairy products be labeled as "artificially sweetened" if they contain aspartame or other calorie-free sugar substitutes. Last week, the FDA asked the public to submit comments and data about using artificial sweeteners in dairy foods. So far, there is no FDA ruling on the petition.
Currently, dairy producers can label products as "milk" if they are unsweetened or contain sweeteners with calories, such as high-fructose syrup or sugar, according to the Huffington Post. Examples of sweetened dairy products include chocolate or strawberry milk and flavored yogurts.
In addition, aspartame and other chemical sweeteners can currently be used in dairy products as long as they are clearly labeled accordingly.

Health Risks of Diet Drinks and Aspartame
Aspartame is a chemical sweetener that's widely used in diet soda and other low-cal foods, including yogurt. It's about 200 times sweeter than sugar and was originally sold under the brand name NutraSweet. At least 90 countries have declared it safe, but several new and recent studies link artificially sweetened drinks (particularly soda) to a wide range of health threats.
While not yet carved in scientific stone, the emerging evidence is disturbing. Here's a rundown:
Higher risk for type 2 diabetes. While the link between sugar-laden drinks and diabetes is well-known, a new study by French researchers also finds that sugar-free soft drinks also boost the threat. The study, to be published in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, tracked 66,118 women over a period of 14 years. While sipping both diet and regular soda magnified risk, the diet drinkers had higher risk for diabetes. However, this type of study is not designed to prove a cause-and-effect relationship.
Top 10 Diabetes Superfoods
Link with depression. A new study funded by the National Institutes of Health, involving more than 260,000 adults ages 50 to 71, surveyed beverage drinking habits. Ten years later, the participants were asked if they had been diagnosed with depression. Those who reported swilling four or more cans of soda daily were 30 percent more likely to develop depression than those who shunned soda. Overall, risk was higher in people who drank any of the diet beverages studied (soda, iced tea, and fruit drinks), compared to those who sipped the full-calorie versions. Drinking unsweetened coffee, on the other hand, was linked to a 10 percent lower rate of the mood disorder, prompting the researchers to recommend dieting and grabbing a cup of joe.
Heart Attack and Stroke: Drinking diet sodas daily may increase the risks for heart attack and stroke and other vascular events by 43 percent, but no such threat exists with regular soft drinks or with less frequent consumption of diet soda. These results come from a study including more than 2,500 adults published online in the Journal of General Internal Medicine on January 30, 2012. So far, no one knows what it is about diet sodas that could explain the added risk.
7 Warning Signs of a Heart Attack
Kidney Trouble: In 2009, researchers at Harvard found that drinking two or more diet sodas daily could lead to a 30 percent drop in a measure of kidney function in women. No accelerated decline was seen in women who drank less than two diet sodas daily. The drop held true even after the researchers accounted for age, high blood pressure, diabetes, and physical activity.
Preterm Delivery: A Danish study including more than 59,000 women found a link between drinking one or more diet sodas daily and a 38 percent increase in the risk of giving birth to preterm babies; the risk was 78 percent higher among pregnant women who drank four or more diet sodas daily. No such risk was seen with regular soda.
What Causes Erectile Dysfunction?
Weight Gain: Wouldn't it be ironic if instead of helping you lose weight, diet drinks had the opposite effect? A study at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio found that compared to those who drank no diet sodas, study participants who did had a 70 percent greater increase in waist circumference; worse, drinking two or more diet sodas daily led to ballooning waist circumference that was 500 percent greater than those who drank none. This doesn't prove that diet soda is to blame since the study was observational—it could be that participants began gaining weight and then started drinking diet sodas.

But Seeing something about artificial sweeteners sorta pee's me off as people should eat fruit if they want something sweet!
And in regards to the Diabetic Epidemic experienced here in Australia, and I suspect many other country's is one simple fact, people eat very little fruit and vegetables here in Australia and Elsewhere compared to what even doctors recommend. Its pretty self evident if one reads any news whatsoever and links the dots that Diabetes is not being caused by fruit consumption! :D

Yeah Tee Shirts!
I will suss out some places in Taiwan and see what prices and quality they offer. No way though I am running a marathon in a Teeshirt... Gonna let my hairy shoulders flow in the wind whilst wearing a singlet ;D
I did a 10km run the other sunday and quite surprised myself in doing it in about an hour seeing I only been training for a month or so. That hour also included detours looking for a toilet to take a crap to no avail... Had the mrs following me on her bike much to her amusement LOL :o
