Russia Retaliates Against US: Puts Radar Station On Combat Alert, Prepares To Take Out European Missile Defense Systems

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 11/23/2011

QuoteEarlier today, we presented the latest developments in the escalating possibility of an imminent air (and potentially land) campaign targeting Syria by the "western world", a move that would infuriate not only Iran, but also Russia and China, both of which have made it clear they would not sit idly by and let such an "aggression" stand. Now it is Russia's turn to retaliate. Cutting straight to the chase - in a nationally televized appearance by Russian president Dmitry Medvedev: in response to what the Russian believes is an active incursion and a potential act of eventual aggression on behalf of NATO countries in Eastern Europe (and hence the US), he he said the following (7 minutes in): "First, I am instructing the Defense Ministry to immediately put the missile attack early warning radar station in Kaliningrad on combat alert. Second, protective cover of Russia's strategic nuclear weapons, will be reinforced as a priority measure under the programme to develop out air and space defenses. Third, the new strategic ballistic missiles commissioned by the Strategic Missile Forces and the Navy will be equipped with advanced missile defense penetration systems and new highly-effective warheads. Fourth, I have instructed the Armed Forces to draw up measures for disabling missile defense system data and guidance systems if need be... Fifth, if the above measures prove insufficient, the Russian Federation will deploy modern offensive weapon systems in the west and south of the country, ensuring our ability to take out any part of the US missile defense system, in Europe. One step in this process will be to deploy Iskander missiles in Kaliningrad Region. Other measures to counter the European missile defense system will be drawn up and implemented as necessary. Furthermore, if the situation continues to develop not in Russia's favor we reserve the right to discontinue further disarmament and arms control measures. Besides, given the intrinsic link between strategic offensive and defensive arms, conditions for our withdrawal from the New START Treaty could also arise." That said, he concludes that Russia is still open to dialog. However, if Obama merely intends to bomb any nation at will, we are very much concerned that everything Medvedev has just threatened will be enacted. And exponentially more so when Putin comes back in charge. One thing is certain - Russia is not North Korea, and taking this speech for more empty jawboning is probably not the wisest option.

I find it interesting that the Kremlin is now using outube to get out its press releases. I guess they consider it a better medium to reach the world than regular news sources.

Somamech pointed me to this story. This is a very serious message, to be sure, but the Russian President is being very cautious in his wording

Russia on Combat Alert over NATO Missile Defense

QuoteRussian President Dimitry Medvedev announced today that he would "immediately put the missile attack early warning radar station in Kaliningrad on combat alert" and take other aggressive steps to counter NATO's missile defense system.

In an official statement reprinted on NATOSource, Medvedev claims this step was taken after NATO and the United States rebuffed repeated gestures from Moscow to cooperate. He asserts, "Rather than showing themselves willing to hear and understand our concerns over the European missile defence system at this stage, they simply repeat that these plans are not directed against Russia and that there is no point for us to be concerned. That is the position of the executive authorities, but legislators in some countries openly state, the whole system is against Russia."

Seeing that NATO was going forward regardless of Russia's concerns, Medvedev announced several steps:

"    First, I am instructing the Defence Ministry to immediately put the missile attack early warning radar station in Kaliningrad on combat alert.

Second, protective cover of Russia's strategic nuclear weapons will be reinforced as a priority measure under the programme to develop our air and space defences.

Third, the new strategic ballistic missiles commissioned by the Strategic Missile Forces and the Navy will be equipped with advanced missile defence penetration systems and new highly-effective warheads.

Fourth, I have instructed the Armed Forces to draw up measures for disabling missile defence system data and guidance systems if need be. These measures will be adequate, effective, and low-cost.

Fifth, if the above measures prove insufficient, the Russian Federation will deploy modern offensive weapon systems in the west and south of the country, ensuring our ability to take out any part of the US missile defence system in Europe. One step in this process will be to deploy Iskander missiles in Kaliningrad Region.

Other measures to counter the European missile defence system will be drawn up and implemented as necessary.

    Furthermore,

If the situation continues to develop not to Russia's favour, we reserve the right to discontinue further disarmament and arms control measures."

Cyprus: Russian navy nears gas drilling zone

Quote(ANSAmed) - NICOSIA, NOVEMBER 25 - The Russian "Admiral Kuznetsov" class aircraft carrier is currently off the coast of Malta and heading for eastern Mediterranean from their base in the Barents Sea. As daily Famagusta Gazette reports, the Russian navy and Israeli military will hold joint exercises next week close to Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone. The exercises are slated to begin on the 28th November and last a week.

Commentators say that Russia is determined to send the message that they have invested interests in the region and will secure them. It is understood that the aircraft carrier is carrying 24-fixed wing planes and a number of helicopters. It has also been reported in the press that the Russian navy may request to use port facilities at Limassol. The radio report also claimed that three Russian destroyers are currently anchored off the Syrian coast. Russia's naval supply and maintenance site near Syria's Mediterranean port of Tartus will be modernized to accommodate heavy warships after 2012, the Russian Navy chief said earlier this week. "Tartus will be developed as a naval base. The first stage of development and modernization will be completed in 2012," Adm. Vladimir Vysotsky said, adding it could then serve as a base for guided-missile cruisers and even aircraft carriers. The Soviet-era facility is operated under a 1971 agreement by Russian personnel. Report: U.S. carrier sent to Syrian coast as tensions flare

QuoteThe USS George H.W. Bush, the Navy's newest aircraft carrier, has reportedly parked off the Syrian coast. The move comes as the U.S. embassy in Damascus urged Americans to "immediately" leave the country.

"The U.S. embassy continues to urge U.S. citizens in Syria to depart immediately while commercial transportation is available," began a statement released Wednesday on the embassy website. "The number of airlines serving Syria has decreased significantly since the summer, while many of those airlines remaining have reduced their number of flights."

In addition to urging citizens to leave the country, CBS News reports that Ambassador Robert Ford, who was recalled from Syria last month due to what the Obama administration called credible threats to his safety, will not return to the country later this month as planned.

Syria's government has been strongly condemned by the international community following months of state-sponsored violence against political activists protesting the regime of President Bashar al-Assad. The violence is said to have left thousands dead in the country, which is a close ally of Iran and a sponsor of the Islamic terrorist group Hezbollah.

Three Russian Military Ships Enter Syrian Waters

QuoteRussia has sent three military ships to the Syrian port of Tartus, according to News.ru, citing Al Arabiya.

According to Al Arabiya, Russian ships have arrived to collect information and fulfill general intelligence tasks.

Moreover, an Iranian newspaper Tehran Times cited a source in the Russian government, saying that the Russian ships in Syrian waters are meant to deter NATO from pushing forward with a military intervention in the country amid violent confrontations between protests and the military that have killed more than 3,500 people, according to the United Nations.

The Russian Defense Ministry has not confirmed, but also has not refuted reports of Russian ships appearing near the Syrian coastline. "We do not comment these reports," the Defense Ministry's Navy Press Secretary Igor Dygalo told News.ru.

At the same time, several analysts told Moskovsky Komsomolets that Damascus may address Moscow with a request for help. However, the Russian authorities are unlikely to wage an open war with NATO or the U.S.

A Russian military base is located in the Syrian port of Tartus, which serves as the 720th base of material and technical support to the Russian Army. During the Soviet times, similar bases used to exist in Egypt and the Syrian port of Latakia.

More news stories as this escalates;

UK halts Russian military agreement

QuoteThe UK will stop sharing military information with Russia under an international convention following Moscow's failure to co-operate, the Government has announced.

The Russians suspended compliance with the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) in December 2007.

The treaty places limits on the build-up of troops, tanks, artillery and other non-nuclear forces from the Atlantic to the Ural Mountains.

Europe Minister David Lidington said despite "considerable efforts to engage the Russian Federation" talks had broken down.

The decision was formally announced at a meeting in Vienna on Tuesday and Mr Lidington's statement to Parliament follows the United States' declaration it would halt co-operation with Russia.

UK Halts Russian Military Agreement (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/uk-halts-russian-military-agreement-6267875.html)

Quote"We remain open to negotiations with the Russian Federation should they demonstrate a willingness to address constructively the key issues which are currently preventing progress."

The move represents a further strain in relations between Moscow and the West.

Russia, China, urge Syria talks, stress U.N. role

QuoteMOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia, China and their partners in the BRICS group of emerging economies urged Syria to start talks with the opposition and warned against foreign intervention without U.N. backing, Russia said, ahead of an Arab League deadline to Damascus on Friday.

In a carefully worded statement after consultations on Thursday in Moscow, the five nations did not mention the Arab League threat to introduce sanctions over Syria's crackdown on protests if Damascus does not sign a deal to let monitors in.

The meeting brought together deputy foreign ministers from Russia and China, which last month vetoed a Western-drafted U.N. Security Council resolution condemning Syria's government, as well as Brazil, India and South Africa, which abstained.

They "underscored that the only acceptable scenario for resolving the internal crisis in Syria is the immediate start of peaceful talks with the participation of all sides, as the Arab League initiative says," the Foreign Ministry statement said.

"Any external intervention that does not correspond with the United Nations Charter must be ruled out."

France became the first major power to seek international intervention when it called this week for "humanitarian corridors" to alleviate civilian suffering.

The communique said the nations "placed a special accent on the role of (the U.N. Security Council), which holds primary responsibility for the support of international peace and security."

The United Nations says 3,500 people have been killed in Syria since March in clashes between the authorities and pro-democracy protesters.

Former ally Turkey has joined other countries calling on President Bashar al-Assad to step down.

Russia has close ties to Syria, which has been a big buyer of Russian weapons and hosts a Russian naval maintenance facility on the Mediterranean, a rare outpost abroad for the Russian military.

Moscow has been increasingly isolated in its support for Assad. It has urged his government to implement reforms faster, but has rejected pressure from Syrian opposition groups to call for his resignation and has accused Western nations of trying to set the stage for armed intervention.

Referring to the entire Middle East and North Africa region, the communique said BRICS nations noted "the need for the complete adherence to human rights by all sides, in particular the authorities, in regard to protecting unarmed civilians," but they laid no specific blame on any side in Syria.

Russian Delegation Visiting Syria: Fabricated, Misleading Media Campaign is being Waged against Syria

QuoteTARTOUS, (SANA) – Members of the Russian delegation visiting Syria, comprising Parliamentary candidates and journalists in addition to public figures, said that there is a fabricated and misleading media campaign targeting the country.

The remarks came during their meeting with Minister of Awqaf (Religious Endowments) Mohammad Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed.

Minister al-Sayyed stressed the importance of learning the reality of the events, adding that millions of Syrians took to the streets to express their adherence to the homeland and their rejection of foreign interference.

He hailed the Russian stance at the UN Security Council and Russia's siding with the Syrian leadership and people.

Members of the delegation expressed solidarity with Syria in the face of the external plot, stressing that their visit aims at inspecting the reality of the events.

Head of the Syrian community in Moscow Dr. Wael Jnaid and his deputy Mohammad Ma'rouf called upon all Syrian communities abroad to organize visits to Syria to unmask the fabrication of the misleading media.

Member of the delegation, Astal Ouzdniva, said "The allegations of some media sources are false... We will convey the real image to the Russian society through a press conference due to be held upon the delegation's return to Moscow."

Correspondent of 'The Expert' newspaper, Kivour Marzyan, hoped that Syria will continue the comprehensive reform program under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad.

UK extremely worried about stolen nukes

Say WHAT?  :o MORE 'lost' nukes?

Did we the British public know that our current Prime Minister was instrumental in the loss of three illegal nuclear weapons?

QuoteIs the UK frantically trying to find out where they were sold on the "Black Market"?

We know something that you don't...... but can't talk about it Under the Nuclear Explosions Act otherwise we will all end up in goal for life.

Chris McGreal of the Guardian newspaper published an article 24th of May 2010 revealing how Israel offered to sell nukes to South Africa during the apartheid era. What he failed to reveal was that Israel struck up a deal with South Africa to move its technicians down to the high-security weapons research and development facilities at Pelindaba.

It was at this location that the Israeli technicians managed to covertly give themselves nuclear weapons but also under the table gave South Africa its own nuclear capability but guess what?.......the US and UK knew all about the programme but the UN did not!!!.......what was even more amazing was the fact that the UN sent a team to South Africa where they were convinced that South Africa had curtailed its nuclear weapons programme when in actual fact it had not!!

It is fairly obvious why Israel is totally consumed in trying to find these stolen weapon and needless to say the US and British Governments are equally as concerned and yet are not in a position to admit to their loss as in doing so would incriminate past and current very senior politicians including our current Prime Minister David Cameron.

It always appear to be the case that your past always comes back to haunt you. So let's just recall the history behind these weapons that were designed and commissioned all during the UN embargo years and who was allegedly involved.

Revealed: how Israel offered to sell South Africa nuclear weapons

Exclusive: Secret apartheid-era papers give first official evidence of Israeli nuclear weapons

QuoteSecret South African documents reveal that Israel offered to sell nuclear warheads to the apartheid regime, providing the first official documentary evidence of the state's possession of nuclear weapons.

The "top secret" minutes of meetings between senior officials from the two countries in 1975 show that South Africa's defence minister, PW Botha, asked for the warheads and Shimon Peres, then Israel's defence minister and now its president, responded by offering them "in three sizes". The two men also signed a broad-ranging agreement governing military ties between the two countries that included a clause declaring that "the very existence of this agreement" was to remain secret.

The documents, uncovered by an American academic, Sasha Polakow-Suransky, in research for a book on the close relationship between the two countries, provide evidence that Israel has nuclear weapons despite its policy of "ambiguity" in neither confirming nor denying their existence.

The Israeli authorities tried to stop South Africa's post-apartheid government declassifying the documents at Polakow-Suransky's request and the revelations will be an embarrassment, particularly as this week's nuclear non-proliferation talks in New York focus on the Middle East.

They will also undermine Israel's attempts to suggest that, if it has nuclear weapons, it is a "responsible" power that would not misuse them, whereas countries such as Iran cannot be trusted.

NATO attacks Pakistan army, Pakistan cuts off U.S. supply lines

QuoteNato helicopters kill 24 troops on "accident"

NATO coalition aircraft forces have allegedly killed 24 Pakistani troops in one of the country's deadliest friendly fire incidents in almost a decade. The attack occurred in the Baizai area of Mohmand at two separate Pakistani checkpoints around 2 a.m. on Saturday. In a press conference this morning, a NATO spokesman said it was likely coalition airstrikes caused the casualties.

The highest ranking commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, Gen. John Allen released a statement earlier today in which he stated, "our most sincere and personal heartfelt condolences go out to the families and loved ones of any members of the Pakistan security forces who may have been killed or injured."

Gen. Carsten Jacobson, a spokesman for the ISAF, (International Security Assistance Force) said air support had been called in during an operation with Afghan national security forces in a region where the border between the two countries is not always clear.

Nato helicopters kill 24 troops on "accident" (http://www.thehalsreport.com/2011/11/nato-attacks-pakistan-army-pakistan-cuts-off-u-s-supply-lines/)

QuoteIn response to the attack, Pakistan announced the closure of two vital supply lines used by the U.S. military in Afghanistan, they also demand the U.S. vacate Shamsi Air Base within 15 days, which is located in the southwestern Baluchistan province.

The Pakistani government made the announcement in a statement issued after an emergency meeting of the Cabinet's defense committee chaired by Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

A prolonged closure of the two supply routes could cause serious problems for NATO and the United States. The U.S. ships more than 30 percent of its non-lethal supplies through Pakistan. The coalition has alternative routes but they are costly and less efficient.

since CCCP collapse, the balance of Powers has been disturbed. now, we only can hope the balance will be returning with no f*Kingly useless'n'insane wars & revolutions. but, follow human nature, wise way seems too unlikely.
