I don't think it's water. It looks like sand to me.

What a desolate place.

I agree, it looks like sand.

And it looks like it's not horizontal, something that water (or any other liquid) should be.

I will take a look at the original photo. :)

well i can see the sand also on lower left hand side all most like a beach.I can see the line where the sand ends and a liquid in a pool, alos can see the reflection in the liquid .Its much easier to say hey its sand and end the post. ARmap I follow your post and u looking into it with some value to your comment is awsome ty.

And the planet mars is red with a red sky too I suppose you still believe?

(This is a mars spirit image from back in the day)

If the image of the proported "water" image is a valid image then if it's a illusion or trickery of light and no water there, then what could make the sand such a darker color than the immediate surrounding soil/sand and rocks?   Perhaps it was freshly wet from Ice that has melted recently?  Or in fact there is indeed water  or some form of liquid, which could be the case because there seems to be reflection of some sort and you can see shadowing from the over hanging  and inset rocks.  Its a great picture but we need to break it down a little more.

I thought I left the d*cks behind at ATS.

The place looks like one big rock to me. I'm looking at it on a smartphone. Do you know how big a smartphone is? Not very. What I see looks like sand with shadows on it from overhanging rock.

If you want to believe there's water on Mars, fine. Believe. Believe in the F'ing Easter Bunny. I don't care. But don't come around asking for an opinion and then jump my sh*t when I give you one.

It's a rock. It's always going to be a rock. Stop wasting your time on pipe dreams. There are more interesting planets.

woah, horsey, woah horsey..........Simmer down pardner.

You are right about one thing, there are more interesting planets.  Namely the one we called Earth.  Lot's of cool stuff to still discover or shall I say be let known.  That's why we are all here right?   ;)

From that angel it looks like a better picture.  It's clearly shading with shadow's giving the  sand a darker color.

Thanks.

And here (http://gigapan.com/gigapans/126202) is a GigaPan panorama from that area. No signs of water in sight.

(I had added this to my previous post, but as it wasn't the last post when I finished modifying my post I thought it was better to make a new post)

Yes, just sand, only extreme fine sand.

QuoteFor me still looks like liquid.
If it was a liquid, the sand below it would appear with a different colour, right?
And there would be a "frontier" between the liquid and the dry ground near it.

Also, an extremely fine dust acts like a liquid, the original Diesel engines could use, besides what is now called Diesel fuel, several types of oil or coal dust.

We settled the blue sky issue long ago :P Even ArMaP is on board with that. And the new NASA images from Curiosity are now showing blue skies.

As to water  Well this one sure looks wet with reflection. Doesn't look like Mars though. I will have to see the original source. I am sure ArMap has it by now :D

But why all the fuss about water on Mars? NASA already told us day time temps in summer can reach 80 F And ESA already showed us snow and a frozen lake...

So do I.  I base that opinion on the fact that liquid water has existed on the surface in the past and the temperature beneath the surface could allow liquid water to exist for long periods of time - perhaps enough to allow life to survive down there.

And the pressure is higher, although I don't how much the pressure increases with depth.

Well the Mariana trench on Earth is 10km deep and has a pressure of 1000 bars (1000 times atmospheric pressure).  It is also almost completely dark.   The temperarue is between 1C and 4C.  Is there life there?

QuoteXenophyophores have been found in the trench by Scripps Institution of Oceanography researchers at a record depth of 10.6 km (6.6 mi) below the sea surface.[6] On 17 March 2013, researchers reported data that suggested microbial life forms thrive in the Mariana Trench.[7][8] Other researchers reported related studies that microbes thrive inside rocks up to 1900 feet below the sea floor under 8500 feet of ocean off the coast of the northwestern United States.[7][9] According to one of the researchers,"You can find microbes everywhere — they're extremely adaptable to conditions, and survive wherever they are."

We KNOW that life can survive in those conditions so beneath the surface of Mars looks like a possibility.

Then there is the alien base at Cydonia.  That looks like pure BS to me though....  :o

ArMap the "I think this one" link takes us to a photograph of a beach. Nevermind the biggish rock midpicture--behind it is a cove beach and hillside beyond the cove waters. You can see salt deposits and breakers on the beach. Of course NASA has always photoshopped and airbrushed to eradicate whatever ET craft might have inadvertantly wandered in view, and they ALWAYS change the hue of photos before we see them...so we keep seeing a red planetscape. Mars looks a lot like Arizona and New Mexico up close and in person. Red in some places, but not in general.

Peace and Love,
JD

Well actually they are melts in the ice... what you are looking at is the polar ice cap. In this case most likely CO2 ice

What "I think this one" link? ???

QuoteNevermind the biggish rock midpicture--behind it is a cove beach and hillside beyond the cove waters. You can see salt deposits and breakers on the beach.
I have seen many people confuse sand dunes with waves, but dunes remain in the same place in different photos, while waves are always moving, so they should be easy to spot on different photos.

No need to change the hue of the photos, just a little dust in the air makes photos look reddish.

And by using NASA photos you can get nice images of blue skies.
