Japan does not have a welfare system.
Work for it or do without.
And I don't think there has ever been a better explanation of the importance of incentive than this example.
These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and all applicable to this:
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Deuem: Interesting Article, Maybe we should Nuke Detroit....
All the statements are true - in an energy scarcity paradigm. Maybe the author shoud read about the abundance paradigm...
And deuem, what is really scary about the entire Detroit situation is...................that is the blueprint/model for what this entire country is ------ upon the brink of becoming!
Just a few things to consider for the already started "implosion":
1. We now have the most socialistic President in the history of this country, and "EVERYTHING" he stands behind is detrimental to the foundings and freedoms of the people of this Country. He is way far to the left, and around the world our President is making disparaging remarks about this great country, and freely offers blame of America for all sorts of problems other countries have had, and are having. How sick is that?
2. 17 Trillion dollar national debt, and climbing fast! Our minds have no real concept of just how much a trillion dollars is! But, for some perspective. The annual Gross National Product is up to about $14 trillion, so our country now owes roughly $3 trillion more that our total annual GNP. Isn't that a little scary? AND it is going to quickly be growing even higher, with the decisions of this administration.
3. BIG BIG GOVERNMENT - Major decisions which have huge and long lasting negative affects on every aspect of this country's ability to produce and perform, are being made by just a selected few under appointed czarist type managers, without consideration and determination by the people we actually elected to represent us in such areas of consideration. It is like we have a "wild-bunch" out there running wild, and they are deciding what is good or not good for us the people, and for us the country of the USA. And while that didn't just start with the current POTUS, he has vastly exacerbated those actions, for purposely circumventing the will of the people, to impose his will, and the will of the far left.
4. Mainstream Media - We absolutely cannot trust the mainstream media. It very obviously has been somehow connivingly bought/manhandled by this administration, and there is no truth in it, relative to this government, and relative to major issues of the governing process. How really bad is it when we know that our own media is not speaking the truth on the issues facing this country, but rather just going along with the drivel of this administration
5. The governing administration is lying to the people, to promote its own leftist agendas, and could care less about the detrimental consequences of such.
6. The Illegal alien thing - - significant millions more lowly spanish speaking people in this country, who are/would be on the dole of freebies and medical care - if a legal process is passed to legalize! :((
7. The muslim situation - - this whole thing is a fiasco, because there is no firm stand being taken to preclude muslims trying to completely change this country, even though we can see that happening all over this world. Such on its own can drastically drag this country under, if not abated to simply allowing only muslim freedom of worship, but not allowing sharia law and etc.
6. Enough - there are many many underlying factors all across this country, where taxpayer monies are being expended with no positive results of product - on & on & on............................... !
All of we Americans are all headed for the scourge of "what has happened to Detroit", if there is not significant measures taken to make corrections on these and the many other areas. We must get the control of this country back into the hands of the people, through the voting process, and get government out of the private lives of citizens. Government - don't try to force me to eat what I don't want to eat! Don't tell my schools what foods my kids can eat! Don't etc, etc, etc, etc, ............................etc. And don't try tell states what they can do and not do, that conflicts with Constitution.
You may not be living "in Detroit now", but you will be before very long, unless major changes are made. The elites will live large, and the non-elites (most all of us) will struggle to live, as is so in most countries around this world, who have succumbed to the socialist paradigm!!!!

My brother was in Detroit in the last couple of years for a Holiday and he was amazed at the place for what is not reported... He really should get out of his music bubble ::)
deuem I am honestly not trying to nit pick the email but Japan do have a welfare system. Australia has a Welfare System and last I checked it may not work the best but it does provide for those who cannot make it in life.
Welfare in Japan:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welfare_in_Japan
I don't think America's welfare system is to blame for the National Debt ;)
I guess that's the difference between having something to look for and thinking that they already have it all.
China also has a Welfare System !
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_welfare_in_China
Social welfare in China has undergone various changes throughout history.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security is responsible for the social welfare system.
In pre-1980s reform China, the socialist state fulfilled the needs of society from cradle to grave.
Child care, education, job placement, housing, subsistence, health care, and elder care were largely
the responsibility of the work unit as administered through state-owned enterprises and agricultural
communes and collectives. As those systems disappeared or were reformed, the "iron rice bowl" approach
to welfare changed. Article 14 of the constitution stipulates that the state "builds and improves
a welfare system that corresponds with the level of economic development."
In 2004 China experienced the greatest decrease in its poorest population since 1999.
People with a per capita income of less than 668 renminbi (RMB; US$80.71) decreased 2.9 million
or 10 percent; those with a per capita income of no more than 924 RMB (US$111.64) decreased
by 6.4 million or 11.4 percent, according to statistics from the State Council's Poverty Reduction Office.
Welfare reforms since the late 1990s have included unemployment insurance, medical insurance,
workers' compensation insurance, maternity benefits, communal pension funds, individual pension accounts,
universal health care, and a carbon tax.
A law approved February 2013 will mandate a nationwide minimum wage at 40% average urban salaries
to be phased in fully by 2015.
When I read this artical I got stuck on the first line.
What happened to the radiation that lasts thousands of years?
All my life I have ben told that once nuked, the area would be dead for thousands of years. Yet look at the city now. Did they just shovel the radiation away and if so to where? The states?
I agree that it is not just a welfare system that does this to a country.
The question regarding the time involved with radiation remaining, seems to be very much
a political issue, that is going by historical events anyway...
What is seen in the case of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, doesn't seem to fit that 1,000 period ?
But then again.... are we being told everything regarding Hiroshima and Nagasaki ?
The best one to ask about this is <thorfourwinds> as he is well informed about what's going on...
Calling Thor, Please chime in.......
Mr Thor, what is up with the radiation in these locations. Is it the Atom bomb vs the new bombs?
Why is it livable at all? Matrix and I figure you should be the goto man on this one?
What happened to the radiation? They moved in 2 years later and look at the place now.
Is nuking a city good? It sure seemed good for them. Of course we should move the people out first next time..

Greetings
ArMaP:Someone not knowledgeable of your
professed language 'misunderstandings'
just might misunderstand your post
and find it a bit misleading -
if not disingenuous, but, in all fairness,
WTF kind of question is that?'Was it supposed to be' by whom? :P
'That much' radiation? quantified by whom? :P
Are you inferring prior knowledge
or questionable data that suggested
potential radiation levels different
from actual event levels?Enquiring minds want to know. ;D
OK, let's compare 'facts' on 'that much radiation.'
Obviously, since you brought it up,
you have 'facts' that you based your 'question' on,
so we relinquish the podium to you, kind Sir.
Once we see what you have based your 'question' on -
your 'facts' - we will be more than pleased to discuss
your 'information' and potential relevance to thread OP, if any. :P
Thank you for your time, consideration and participation
and we look forward to your eloquent rejoinder. :P

Like err buddy know you can't never tell 'boun no raidation. We might could be doin' stuff at night it might take nine months to identify cause o' the cyclops eye ball and glow in the dark hippy hair, but that ain't human--it's got extra fingers and limbs and follows you hobblin' and yelpin' and carryin' on. See--radiation! We need more of THAT kind of radiation, cause it's fun. You can't never tell.
You have interesting friends Deuem..
Nuclear (Plutonium) radfiation lasts a long time....
Might be some evidence to be had in the Gobi dessert.
To quote the Mahabharata:
"(it was) a single projectile
Charged with all the power of the Universe.
An incandescent column of smoke and flame
As bright as the thousand suns
Rose in all its splendour...
...it was an unknown weapon,
An iron thunderbolt,
A gigantic messenger of death,
Which reduced to ashes
The entire race of the Vrishnis and the Andhakas.
...The corpses were so burned
As to be unrecognisable.
The hair and nails fell out;
Pottery broke without apparent cause,
And the birds turned white.
After a few hours
All foodstuffs were infected...
....to escape from this fire
The soldiers threw themselves in streams
To wash themselves and their equipment."

I don't know. The opening post says "What happened to the radiation that lasts thousands of years?" and on another post Deuem wrote "What happened to the radiation?".
To me, that sounded like someone had said after the bombing the radiation would last thousands of years, so I asked if it was supposed to be that much radiation after the bombing, enough to prevent people to return to the city.
QuoteAre you inferring prior knowledge

No, I'm asking if there was expected a high level of radiation that prevented people to move back to the city.

Yes I do and that is one funny part about my stay in China. I get to meet people from around the world. At home I only met locals and people I worked with. With email, even if they leave we can still stay in touch. The bad thing is that friends come and go fast around here...
