Title: [GARDEN] Granny's Throwing Tomato
Post by: Somamech on May 13, 2013, 07:45:23 PM
I am looking over Heirlooms Tomatoes for my LED winter grow and came upon this page which is sure to make anyone here have a little chuckle LOL

Lycopersicon lycopersicum

Perfect for throwing at politicians or mining magnates like Gina and Clive. The Italians favourite tomato (like our Grosse Lisse) is used in salads and pastas and for hurling at old lechers like Silvio Belesconi. Its heavily ribbed flutes can curve in the air like a Warney wrong 'un. Productive, early and subversive. Don't give up - express your feelings!

what kind of led do you have?
if you could would you give us a full report on them as i dont trust the critics on the net.
if you could give us a model number or name and some pics of your plants at like once a week .
i would frequent this thread and keep up with your progress.
have you ever had an hps? how do they compare?
i have so many questions.

Hey Robo!

Nice plants there dude !  AND thanks for reminding its spring in your neck of the woods as it's damn well turning cold very quick here down under mate :D   >:(

I am very close to the point of ordering LED's for a build so I can grow chilli's during our winter in Oz.  It's been a research task like that damn naval thread back in the day except worse.... On one side of the LED success story's you Ganja Growers, and the other side you the Aquarium Reef Tank folkes.

Info overload mate!

All I really want to do is grow the world hottest chilli ( Butch T Trinidad Scorpion )   ;D

But yeah I will detail my build if you would like as I am going to buck a few trends as I only want to Use Cree White LED's :D

Might like to invest in Full Spectrum LED's Soma! Would supply much more growing power.
Although a Radiant Energy powered Light Globe would be optimal  :)

if you got the mula.i personall ::)y love my hps.
sldo get a rabbit.there poo makes grest fertilizer.and its organic.or find somebody who has some.just mix with potting soil.and dont believe the bs .potting soil can be reused.i do it all the time.im on my eighth grow w my soil.the hps will warm your house in the winter.since your in china you could buy the leds in bulk and build your own light.i think you just run them in series and parrallel to match your voltage.just an idea.

Haaaaa

It pains me to say this Robo but yeah I would love some Rabbit Poop!

I am in Oz, the Land Downunder for the most part :D

I am about over Potting Mix not for what you said, but in support of what you said.  For the most part Potting Mix is non broken down organics which we are told that we need in Pot's.  In your case I suspect that by adding poop to the mix you add a lot of soil fertility in the form of microbes and such and they in-turn break down the potting mix.

my bad.i was distracted and accused you of being in china.so what hydroponics?yes the poo seems to be breaking down the potting mix.i also added peat moss to get the ph down.i throwed in perlite to help airate and hold a little more water.the peat ended up being the best additive ive added.i even use it in my clay soil and it made a major difference in my outdoor garden.i tried using filtured water using a pur water tank but that didnt help as much as a/c or rain water.i dont even use chem fertilizer anymore.just pure water after i wilt them a little.rabbit poo makes perfect earthworm medium and food too.red wiggler worms grow in it great.look forward to hearing more from you.

Well now I am married I will have to spend time in Taiwan once per year, some people call that China, so I can see where you become confused :D

I will have to hit you up with a PM this weekend as I have found some very interesting folke regarding what you like to grow :D

Not sure if it's really appropriate to post here as I think we sorta keep the noise down on that issue once it becomes instructional for very good reason ;)

would love to hear your folke.yes i dance pretty hard around the issue.
and as long as z dont jerk my chain too hard.really there is not much about it i dont already know as ive been a gardener for twenty five years but the grow sights on the web are so full of bs that its hard to find the truth.
thats why i wanted to speak to people whos opinions i trust.
over the years ive refined my techniques but i dont know it all.the led light thing has intrigued me but im not interested in hydro as flavors and esters are stronger with soil.

Like I said I really don't grow that plant, but in my time searching out LED tech for growing one has to look at it :)

And yeah I totally agree as there IS so much BS.  Both camps seem to do well no matter what light's they use, yet they argue till they are black and blue at times  ???

Not sure why though as one camp are growing plant's with less electricity/heat and doing well....  I kinda put that down to the Harley Davidson/NASCAR Effect.  :D

My own assumption is that LED is the way to go for growing for pure pleasure.  I do say pleasure as I like experimenting with plant's and this is a Chilli grow. I make no money or save money doing this, it's purely done out of love of growing plants which actually cost's me money, 'a lot of money' LOL
;D

But yeah in saying so, I have seen and read some things that really are groundbreaking in growing under light that are not involved with the Industry that should be tested out to see if they hold water.

well if you got the money go for it.if i was you i would go with a reliable distributor.leds would definitely not use much power but they have to be put down almost against the plants because they dont have alot of "throw" from what ive read.hps 1000wt +- will add about 10°F to the temp of a 500sq.ft.area like a trailor house.
it would take me like eight years of electrical savings to recoup that large an investment.
i love gardening too.my 3acre yard is a jungle this year.in the middle of east texas.lol.
six years of freerange chickens fertilized the heck out of this yard.and added alot of topsoil.went from a quarter inch to an inch and a half.

O heck you are talking death star lighting there mate LOL   ;D

I am trying to convert a small alcove in my forbidden cove of ridding the world of evil to a quaint space that's insulated where Chilli's grow.

One really good place to to look at a LED light and inspiration is here...

http://www.ledgrow.eu/

That is a cool LED light and what is all good about LED lighting.  I see the same with Taiwanese LED light's but no-one has heard about them as they are not targeting the Ganja market, infact I am not sure what market they are targeting with success  >:(
