first i have to explain that i am very bad with labels..probably cause i don't like them
i can never keep it straight on what they mean with being on the right or the left , etc..
becasue i mostly just accept folk as they are i thought i would be considered liberal..
wellllllllll..this e-mail i got turns me into a conservative...
hope you get a good chuckle outta this
but i'm gonna go for the label of independent and leave it at that
This gently explains the difference in thinking between people with opposite outlooks.
A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be very liberal, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words redistribution of wealth.
She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch conservative, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.
One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs.
The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.
Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.
Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Audrey doing?"
She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over."
Her wise father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."
The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That's a crazy idea, how would that be fair! I've worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!"
The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the conservative side of the fence."
If you ever wondered what side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test!
If a conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one. If a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.
If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat. If a liberal is a
vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.
If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation. A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.
If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels. Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down.
If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church. A liberal
non-believer wants any mention of God and Jesus silenced.
If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it. A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.
If a conservative reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh. A liberal will delete it because he/she's "offended."
i can go with the conservative chioce on each of these..sigh ;D 8)
I never understood the US definition of "conservative" and "liberal", as it looks like it changes according to the person explaining it. :)
Just a brief comment - so that there is no misunderstanding of the story.
What is amusing, yet sad, is that "liberals" do expound upon wanting to help people, with many if not most being very sincere about doing that. However their approach to "help" is PROVEN BY RESULTS, to be only slightly short-term positive, and long-term directly negative.
A known thought - The liberal approach is give a man a fish so he can eat - short term positive - the long term negative, the man expects to get his fish every day. The long term positive is simple (conservative thought) - is while feeding the man, teach the man to "fish", meaning, do all of the things necessary for the man to know/learn to provide for himself and his family, in a way that builds character and self esteem/confidence, for living a normal and enjoyable life.
In the long term, self-support by the fit man is a mandatory objective, as every man is a very different individuall, and individual successes = the success of all!

In the scarcity paradigm, of course. [smile]
the problem with both is the that once a person spends the money for ed.then gets a job.buys a house.then the banks ruin the economy .you get laid off.now you have school debt and home debt.and the bank buys the business and moves it to another town.where they start the whole process over again.we get left as minumem wage jobs and slaves to the bank.the bank factury makes profit and the school and home loans make profit.we live in poverty.
seen it happen too many times.its all a scam.until the economy stabilizes.im not going to work fulltime.let the millionaires and bankers sweat to keep their businesses alive.ill sit in my ac eating bonbons .
Otters and cats are notoriously independent.

I actually noticed the contrast between most of these characteristics on 4chan (conservative) and Reddit. (Liberal)
The white supremacists and neo-Nazis (and yes, they often were) on 4chan would tell Leftists to go to Reddit, but they weren't trying to have Reddit shut down. A group of Reddit users, on the other hand, were conducting raids on 4chan and trying to get it shut down. Reddit also has an extremely corrupt moderation system, which is routinely used as a means of censorship. If people on Reddit don't like what you say, then they will down-vote it to the point where nobody else ends up able to see it either.
So this is entirely true. I actually do consider myself Leftist to a certain extent, but there is still a lot about the Left that I don't like. I am not a globalist/internationalist, I think people should be able to both eat meat and own guns, and while I think homosexual people should be able to live the way they choose if they don't bother anyone else, I also think that the gay political movement is often authoritarian, and I don't like what it does, for the most part.
Abortion, euthanasia, and capital punishment are issues about which I consider it impossible to generalise. I think both are probably appropriate in certain specific cases, but it really needs to be evaluated on a case by case basis. It's not appropriate to just say, "Yes I do support the use of that," or "No, I don't," in a blanket sense.
Hmmm by those standard I would be conservative :P
After seeing what Obama did I might have to switch :P
So what we need here is a THIRD TERM something in the middle that takes the common sense of the former, with the freedom of the latter.

How about one 5 year term then you leave forever! Oh and your legally libel for everything you do! 8)
