UFO Cover stories..."The Klingon cloaking device".

Not UFOs, but UFO cover stories. According to Richard Haines' CIA article on their involvement of UFOs, they allowed the U-2 and A-12 to be mistaken as UFO rather than have them exposed. There have been claims that unlike this passive cover, there have been instances where there was active disinformation. Does anyone have an real example of this?

The closest I've been able to find is when they were using A-7 Corsairs in the F1-17 program, they claimed the secrecy was because they used an atomic-powered pod, nicknamed the "Klingon cloaking device". This mystery may have spurred some tall tales that morphed into alien tech etc.

During the Platinum Nighthawk celebration at Edwards in 2001 there were some cool exhibits that included one of the bogus "test pods" carried on the 4450th TG A-7 aircraft. It was a travel pod, painted black, with a flashing red light, various warning placards, and the words "A-7 KLINGON CLOAKING DEVICE." It was originally designed and modified by TSgt. Philip "Tin Man" Barta and TSgt. Charles "Bags" Baggerly. Apparently, some of the pods had features that allowed venting of gases such as vapor from dry ice to create even more impressive special effects.
