Title: Hole On Mars?
Post by: Eighthman on November 18, 2013, 11:18:08 PM
http://areazone51ufos.blogspot.be/2013/11/ovni-un-tunnel-entree-concave-sur-mars.html

I did a search on this site but could find no Hole On Mars mentioned here that resembled this one.

Still, many of the photos presented look too good to be true ( but I can hope!).

This one struck Me immediately.  VERY difficult to see "natural forces" explaning it.

First problem is that it is using Google Mars

Second problem is it is using google elevation tool

What we need is the original image that Google mars used to generate their distorted views

I think it is this one but maybe ArMap can find it :D

A new image reveals a wall on this dark feature, suggesting it is a pit at least 78 metres deep

I notice that the linked site is using my images of the Antarctic cave :D

As I recall, z, no One explained that - and many suggested an energy beam, as it was too circular...

So...  Your point?  [grin]

Well NASA did :P as the seven holes are on the slope of the giant volcano Olympus  Mons.

So NASA figures they are roof collapse sink holes over old lava tubes :D

natural sink holes are generally circular :P

Yes, but the "hole" is not the one from the images you posted, this one is on the North pole, the ones you posted are not.

And I don't think it's a hole either, it looks more like ice-covered crater or something like that.

PS: just before hitting the "Post" button I found this page (http://www.uahirise.org/ESP_027492_2615).

That white area looks more like light to me. Out on a Deuem limb, it reminds me of a tunnel cut into that hillside and has a huge glass sectioned door with different colors. I called it the "Mars Hatch"
It would be in the open position and that is why we see it almost round.

Do you know of any other photos of this area taken later [not that day] that still show the white.

From the link I posted above I downloaded the full size JP2 image, from which I cropped this.

The other two images are ESP_027874_2615 (http://hirise.lpl.arizona.edu/ESP_027874_2615) and PSP_010086_2615 (http://hirise.lpl.arizona.edu/PSP_010086_2615).

Nice pic, ArMaP.  That triangular section within the crater is infill from the collapsing wall.  A pretty common feature as craters (of all kinds) age and degrade.
