Just when you thought your PC was safe :)
QuoteThe NSA runs a massive, full-time hacking operation targeting foreign systems, the latest leaks from Edward Snowden show. But unlike conventional cybercriminals, the agency is less interested in hacking PCs and Macs. Instead, America's spooks have their eyes on the internet routers and switches that form the basic infrastructure of the net, and are largely overlooked as security vulnerabilities.
QuoteThe NSA's focus on routers highlights an often-overlooked attack vector with huge advantages for the intruder, says Marc Maiffret, chief technology officer at security firm Beyond Trust. Hacking routers is an ideal way for an intelligence or military agency to maintain a persistent hold on network traffic because the systems aren't updated with new software very often or patched in the way that Windows and Linux systems are.
QuoteRouters in particular often remain unpatched because system administrators don't think they will be targeted and because administrators are concerned about network outages that could occur while the patch is applied or if the patch is faulty.

Yea this is old news for me, They bounce my router info all the time. They somehow scatter the data and i have to re-set it. My IP goes off and I suffer. It is instant. I want to put a firewall out there. anyone got an idea? Maybe even tie the wire in a knot to slow them down. I'll listen to anything.

If you are talking about your own Router it's already compromised during manufacture, and your ISPs Router is too.
The 'only' solution is to make your own router. Using a UNIX or LINUX computer and manually set up Port-Forwarding to make it into a Router. Of course you will have to write the code yourself because most 'Open-Source' is compromised too.
It's possible but tedious.
P.S. I once set up a hardware firewall using a LINUX PC. The number of hack attempts on that machine were outrageous. Most of the bandwidth was used up just dropping those packets. Then i found out that the Linux Kernel is compromised so I have now switched to a self compiled version of Open Indiana. :)
Configuring your Linux server as a Router:

But if the ISP router is also compromised then not much is gained by that, right?

You are right if you are just using it like a normal router.
The only way to do it is to set up a VPN between your Router and the ISPs Router. All encrypted traffic over this tunnel is accepted. All other traffic is dropped (You actually don't even see it).
For someone to access your VPN they would have to ARP poison both your ISPs router and your Router.
That's not impossible, but if they are that keen then you have no chance.
P.S. The only other alternative is to set up 'Packet Scanning' of every packet that comes through your Router. Most domestic routers can't do that as they don't have the processing power. So using a Business Router, you could do it, with a lot of time and effort.

Some two or three years ago the router I was using was so slow I had to replace it.

Yes, most domestic Routers are just 'novelty' machines. :)
I did an investigation into a few routers a while back and they seems to have either Intel Atom Processors or some sort of ASIC Proprietary device. Both these have no 'real' processing power and no Cache Memory.
When i moved to a Cisco router the difference was enormous. (It uses a Quad Core Processor).

The SeLINUX module of Linux was coded by the NSA.
http://www.nsa.gov/research/selinux/
Linus Torvald, when asked if the NSA approached Him for access to Linux, He said no...while nodding His head "yes" emphatically.
Or so the story goes. [smile]
The behaviour of the NSA is like juvenile monkeys in a zoo.... LO
They do not understand this Program (Earth) can be shut down, by a single "Instruction"... :)
Piss the writer off enough, and the writer will put the program back in its libraries again,
where it has come from, until and IF the writer of this Program, (Earth)
wants to play with it again. :)
matrix
so few understand and/or accept that the rock they live on is sentient
if they did a few things would change...well i hope they would anyway
Your NOT wrong there sky....
The ones (In the NSA I was referring to) who could Piss the "Writer" off are as I say
are like monkeys in a Zoo.... Purely the Animal type... :(
Probably if they piss the "Writer" off enough, they (those who do) may cease to exist in this Program,
(brought about by the "Writer") while others continue to experience the program... (Earth)
After all, this experience is only a "Story" we are experiencing, and there exist rules,
regarding the Program... :) Just as well... 8)
Perhaps those who are prevented from disclosure (In GV.) re. the E.T. question, may have been warned,
hence the censorship.
The "Censorship" might be the result of those undesirable alien species ?
But thankfully there are others (E.T.'s) who are a little more benevolent... :)
Who is the "Writer," Matrix?

Who is the "Writer," Matrix?
Re. your Experience;
The
Other End of your "
Real Self".... i.e. Your "Outer End" was/is the "
Writer" :)
When you
focussed from the "
Other End" (the "Outer End") of your "Processing System",
you
Wrote your "
Story" re. your body and what is happening to it, within a common
"Environmental Program" much like that of a "
1st Person" computer game...
The other End of your "Processing System" also has full control over the "Environmental Program"
involving the other participants, but while you experience your "
Story", you have
NO Control
over the "
Story"
you wrote in the
1st place, apart from being able to chose the options you
Wroteinto the "
Story", that is while you experience it from the "Absolute Centre End"...
In other words you can only experience that which you have
Written, which also includes "Choices"
in your "Program Book",
Written by you !
But this situation will change, after the "Metamorphosis" has been completed regarding
your
own "Processing System" !
You are now experiencing that Program from the
Face representing "The Absolute Centre End"
of your
own "Processing System".
One
Face of the "Plane" involving the Processing System, Produces and presents the Experience,
while you experience the "
Story" from a
second Face, representing "The Absolute Centre"
of your
own "Processing System".
This scenario only happens before the Metamorphosis re. your "Processing System" is completed.
When completed you will be able to Write to the Program ("Story") from either End and experience it
from either End also.
Thank You for that explanation. [smile] Looking forward to having more control over this story! LOL!

Me too... then I can avoid that unwanted trauma... :) Like my 1st day back in NZ re. my car. >:( :o
