After some reaction has occurred, you follow that up with, "He denies that he is an evil shape-shifting alien but what does his record actually show?"
Following that, it would be "The Prime Minster continues to deny that he is working for alien overlords but can we trust him?".
Victory would be achieved when ordinary citizens offer comments such as "I don't actually know about that evil alien controversy but if it was true , how would his record in office be any different?".
The elite would be horrified to discover that a number of people view such allegations as only slightly more absurd than day to day narratives that politicians ordinarily expect people to believe.

Perhaps 'Evil Reptilian Overlords' are just a defense mechanism created by those who do comprehend the *real life* horrors these people enact. The every day person is always accutely aware, but they don't know how to deal, so they just blot it out. They are encompassed in fear.
