Title: The Roadway of the Future - "Solar FREAKIN' ROADWAYS"
Post by: rdunk on May 26, 2014, 09:01:43 PM
This video was posted on YouTube about a week ago, and already has almost 5 million views. The technology of what is presented could be literally awesome, if taken to the limits proposed. It is an interesting presentation of what is possible, without the host of what-ifs that would have to be addressed, were this technology to begin to be implemented.

I thought some of you here at the Roundtable would likewise be interested, and might also have thoughts about other uses of the technology. If such technology works for roads, it certainly should work for roofing buildings and homes & etc too....for instance!

This is my first post on this board, so it will not hurt my feelings if it needs to be moved to the open forum. :))

This is a very interesting vid, rdunk; perhaps it should be put in the general area so more members and guest can see it; my first thought was of the Robert Heinlein novel about the solar powered slidewalks and roadways- and if this is feasible it would make a tremendous impact on our energy needs/consumption...will check into this more...

thanks for sharing it with us...

thanks seeker - I wasn't sure where to put it because - while the video is done in a fairly light-hearted manor, it is addressing what could be a very serious subject. I wasn't sure how or how much this might synergize with other technical thoughts in process here, so I chose to put it here first, with the knowing that it could always be moved to the open forum.

One of the thoughts is, how are the other power producers and fossil fuel companies going to receive this paradigm thinking & world changing capability?? This is somewhat like, in the reality of change, the announcing of the automobile/car for transportation and for most everything else the 1-horsepower horse did for man! :))

So please move it desired to have it in the open forum!

I can see this being a game changer, rdunk, but also see that it will be a very long time for it to have a major impact beyond private driveways and parking lots... the US alone has several million miles of roadways...

still very interesting...

Yes seeker, I agree! But, I see this "technology" as a "more simple" stepping stone toward and to a true paradigm change. After thinking about it a little more, is this really at the level of a paradigm change?? I think maybe not! It more simply is the collection of solar power with known collector technology, and just using a different type base resource for its application.

And yes, implementing this already known solar power collection technology into all of the different base elements would take a long time. In my opinion, this approach for power will most likely, and fairly soon, become obsolete, because of soon to be emerging complete new state of the art paradigm changing power technologies. And, depending upon various known factors today, that could be soon and very soon!! Its you technical guys that are holding things up. Get just a few power things figured out, and "voila"..........there it is - REAL CHANGE!! :))
