Title: Brevard County Florida / Port Canaveral takes down American flag to not offend
Post by: spacemaverick on June 27, 2014, 06:46:54 PM
I live in Brevard County Florida.  Home of the spaceport for the US.  Air Force Test Range,  Space X supporting the ISS, and various other businesses supporting the war effort along with the space program.  Port Canaveral is home of cruise ships, freight coming into the port also along with many businesses there.  A port employee was told to take down the American Flag at the port recently because it might offend an Arab country.  This particularly disturbing for this area because of the support of veterans, American industry working the space program, thousands of people supporting both space and military and some politicians at the port didn't want to offend them and had our flag brought down while the foreign country had their representatives in attendance.

This is the height of political correctness.  I would not expect someone in another country to do that for us.  I am proud of my country (the government leaves something to be desired) but the people are good people, I was born here...opportunities abound still,  we still have more freedom than most.  This really made me mad.  My service to both my county and country span 31 years and some political jerk does something to remove the American Flag over the port during a business visit.  I'm furious!  See the link for the full story.  Brevard's Best News is a local (owned and operated by a local housewife)news site who tells things like they should be.  She deals with local issues that concern us all locally.  She takes a lot of flack from some local powers but always backs up her stories from first hand witnesses and/or documentation.  If more people informed others we might have more influence to turn things around in the world.

Port Employee Ordered to Remove American Flag as NOT TO Offend.....by Dana Loyd

Were the American Flags taken down from Port Canaveral during "Project Pelican" deal? by Paul Alfrey

"Brevards Best News has received numerous credible reports that during the signing of the "Project Pelican" $100 million dollar Gulftainer deal in Port Canaveral, American Flags were removed from displays and flagpoles as to not offend United Arab Emirates royalty. Our American Flags were replaced by Gulftainer company flags and Port Canaveral flags"

I had to put this up because I hate political correctness.  Rod aka spacemaverick

QuoteA port employee was told to take down the American Flag at the port recently because it might offend an Arab country.

Ridiculous.  So flying your national flag in your country is now offensive?  Will that Arab country not fly it's flag in it's ports because it might offend a US ship?

Just... ridiculous.

It has me furious.  I would expect better out of an American citizen.  I guess the almighty dollar is more important to the person or persons that issued the take down order.  The political problems in this county in some cases are getting worse but this one really made me mad.

spacemaverick said, "This is the height of political correctness".

(No spacemaverick, I don't mean you are stupid ( :)) ). The below statement is not directed at you, as we know how you feel about this too)

NO! That is not correct!

This is actually the height of American stupidity!!! There is really nothing "political" about it! This is the United States of America, and we could have, should have if we wanted, our OLD Glory standing within eyesight along every inch of our borders.

As an American, I am offended when anyone in this country makes any excuses for not flying our flag. This is not the fault of any Arabs, as they, and the rest of the world, should know in spades that only the United States of America flag flies on its soil, and to hell with what foreign nationals, illegal aliens, and the Obama's of this country think in this regard!! (and I am not former military - just an American)

Question:

Why the suck-up / obvious pandering to the UAE?

# 6. United Arab Emirates is also recognized as fastest emerging economy in the world.

That's why Forbes Magazine could not ignore this oil and gas resources rich Arabian country. Stats show that United Arab Emirates earn more or less 25 percent of its annual income through exporting oil and gas reserves. The overall per capita income of UAE is roughly described as $47,500. It is sharing its sea borders with Iran to the north and with top of the list Qatar to the west.

United Arab Emirates | The World Almanac of Islamism (http://almanac.afpc.org/united-arab-emirates)

In the wake of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, the United Arab Emirates has come to be identified as significantly, if indirectly, involved in Islamic terrorism.

Two of the nineteen 9/11 hijackers were residents of the UAE, while another resided there.
More than a decade after those attacks, much of the Arab world remains in a state of upheaval, and the governments of two of the UAE's Arabian Peninsula neighbors, Bahrain and Yemen, have faced significant challenges to their authority. Yet the UAE, to all appearances, remains calm. This is due in large part to the cultural setting in which the interpretation and practice of Islam have evolved in the UAE, as well as to the nature of the country's leadership since its independence in 1971.

The "father" of the UAE (and its president from the country's founding in 1971 until his death in 2004), Zayid bin Sultan Al Nahyan, promoted and personified a conservative but moderate interpretation of Islam, which helped to legitimate government efforts to check and contain Islamic extremism. Since 9/11, the UAE has devoted serious efforts to countering Islamic terrorism, the extreme forms of belief that promote it, and the financial support that facilitates it.

Yet while these efforts have been overwhelmingly successful, international concerns remain that terrorist plots could be carried out from or through the UAE, and that some terrorist financing taking place within the country remains hidden or unacknowledged. At various times between December 2011 and June 2013, considerable numbers of Islamists were arrested.

They were described in government statements as belonging to an "al-Qaeda cell," and threatening militant attacks. A trial of 94 suspects begun in March 2013 led to the conviction of 69 (eight in absentia).

On July 2, 61 received prison sentences of seven to 10 years and eight of those tried in absentia were given 15 years. The individuals sentenced included academics, lawyers, and members of leading UAE families. Among them were prominent human rights lawyer Mohammed al-Roken and Shaikh Sultan bin Kayed Al Qassimi, the chairman of al-Islah and a cousin of the ruler of the Emirate of Ras al-Khaimah.

The various charges were alleged violations of Article 180 of the UAE's penal code, which prohibits "establishing, instituting, founding, organizing, administering or joining an association or any branch thereof, with the aim of overthrowing the regime of the State."

It seems clear that the arrests and convictions stemmed more from the government's fear of the popular attraction of political Islam in the wake of the Arab Spring than from evidence of an explicit plot to overthrow the government.

This collapse of WTC 7 was reported by BBC correspondent while building still erected in her background. Anyone doubt can watch this on you tube.

AREA 51 is the US -They say its a military base. but its not. It seems the people working in AREA 51 are not aware about what they are doing. Many families were separated or destroyed due to this. 3. 9/11 attacks - it's impossible for a bearded person to sit in a cave and plan the so called US Trade center attacks which includes high jacking planes. 4.    .   Added 16:42 September 8, 2011. The heinous act of 9/11 was planned and carried out by Martians. Tell me ... how many Martians were killed on that day .... The answer is Zero. How is it possible that on that day no Martian turned up at the Twin Towers? Also no normal plane could have caused all that damage it was obviously a Martian Saucer with a cloaking device to make it look like a plane. And the US Government was involved in the whole thing, they had plenty of forewarning. This is not the first time that the Martians have crashed a flying object on Earth they did it in Roswell in 1947. Since then the US Government had ample time to prepare an appropriate response. Then there were all the cover ups to halt the investigation of the Martian involvement. The lack of data provided by the Mars Rover program which was going to help investigate the Martian involvement.

.   Added 15:23 September 8, 2011. I still am not able to understand how those "terrorists" could learn how to fly but did not know that the Pentagon was all underground and they had no chance hitting it with a plane. Also good that the twin towers fell within themselves coz if it had fallen sideways, there would have been even more damages. But such a high rise falling similar to an implosion... maybe one tower could be just coincidence... but both towers falling the same way... something much more than coincidence... whatever they did, whoever did it, it was all well planned and now a decade over.

(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) New terminal seen to contribute 630m to florida economy

gulftainer (http://crescententerprises.com/html/gulftainer.html) on monday marked its expansion into the united states as part of its strategic vision to operate 35 terminals in five continents by 2020.

the sharjah-based firm secured a 35-year concession from port canaveral in florida state to operate and further develop its container and multi-purpose cargo terminal which will commence operations in the fourth quarter of 2014.

gulftainer a subsidiary of crescent enterprises and one of the world's largest privately owned port management and logistics companies said this deal will give significant boost to its business and help achieving 18 million twenty-foot equivalent unit (teu) target by 2020.

chief executive of canaveral port john walsh and chief executive of crescent enterprises and chairman of gulftainer's executive board badr jafar signed the agreement at canaveral port in the presence of 120 officials from the port and florida state.

michael corbin ambassador of the us to the uae and saud al nowais commercial counsellor from the uae embassy in washington among others were also present on the occasion.

"today is a momentous occasion not just for gulftainer but also for the uae. the seas have been facilitating international trade for centuries and such a partnership between a world-class uae-born port operator and the third largest passenger cruise port in the world promises great success" badr jafar told khaleej times from florida.

john walsh said this agreement marks a new era for port canaveral. "with work on the widening and deepening of the canaveral harbour currently in progress the new container and multi-purpose cargo terminal will further underscore our credentials as one of the most important economic engines for our region" he said.

under the terms of the agreement gulftainer will strengthen the terminal through a 100 million investment in infrastructure equipment and locally-sourced human capital.

the new container and cargo terminal is expected to contribute more than 630 million to florida's economy 280 million in revenue to port canaveral and generate more than 350 million in tax contributions.

"by bringing gulftainer's uae-grown expertise and global relationships to port canaveral we aim to create a new efficient and secure gateway for goods entering and leaving the southern atlantic coastline of america" jafar said. he said gulftainer would work with the canaveral port authority to provide opportunities to the local economy by investing in infrastructure processes and people.

walsh said the arrival of larger ships and increased cargo handling will add significant value to florida's economy. he said ports operated by gulftainer are ranked first in europe middle east and africa and third globally in productivity by the journal of commerce port productivity report 2013.

"we are confident of its ability to create tangible returns for port canaveral in a short span of time" he said.

canaveral port authority commission chairman tom weinberg the decision to grant the concession to gulftainer has been taken after careful consideration and due diligence.

"this is a true game-changer that will strengthen our cargo operations" he said.

the sharjah-based gulftainer operates and manages ports and logistics businesses in several countries in the middle east as well as in brazil and turkey. it has recorded a consistent growth over the past decade averaging over 12 per cent compared to global market growth of 8.6 per cent during the same period. in 2012 gulftainer's terminal at khorfakkan was the fastest growing trans-shipment hub in the world recording 28 per cent growth.

I know this thread dealt with the taking down of the American Flag during a business deal with a middle eastern company but one other thing has me very worried.  The amount of containers coming in and the inspection process by customs.  Just about anything can be smuggled into this country because not all containers are searched.  What about radiological items to make a dirty bomb or cylinders that might contain a chemical or bio toxin?  There is no way that all containers can be checked that I know of unless there is something out there I do not know about.

Pegasus staff:  I may request a merge of this thread with another one on the inspection of containers coming into other nations from Middle Eastern Countries or just Inspection of containers as a whole if that is okay????
