Two planes nearly collide at IAH
By Craig Hlavaty | July 5, 2014 | Updated: July 5, 2014 12:01pm

For the second time in as many months, two planes near Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport came close to colliding mid-air before air traffic controllers corrected their courses, averting potential disaster.
The most recent incident occurred Thursday just before 7 p.m. A Singapore Airlines 777, a jumbo jet, flew within 200 feet vertically and within about more than half-mile horizontally of a Delta Airlines A320. That's a separation of about eight football fields horizontally.

Federal Aviation Administration rules say that aircraft must remain separated a half-mile vertically and 3 miles horizontally. FAA officials are currently investigating the incident.

The planes were 10 miles northeast of the airport, according to the FAA's Lynn Lunsford.

"An air traffic controller noticed the deviation and issued traffic alerts and instructions to the pilots of both aircraft. The FAA is still determining the closest proximity between the two flights," said Lunsford Saturday.

"As a result of a preliminary analysis of the event, the FAA has taken steps to ensure that all flight crews are aware of the top altitudes for standard departure routes," he said.

Eleven dead in Poland parachute club plane crash
Eleven people have been killed when a plane carrying members of a parachute club crashed in southern Poland.

Rescue workers said only one of the 12 people on board survived and had suffered serious injuries.

The Piper Navajo light aircraft had just taken off from an airfield in Rudniki near Czestochowa. The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.

Witnesses said the plane's engines had made an odd, droning sound before it began to fall from the sky.

"It was flying from the south and the engine was making strange sounds," said Barbara Minczykiewicz, a resident of the nearby village of Topolow where the plane crashed.

"It was flying very low, close to houses. It tilted to one side on its wing," she told Poland's Gazeta Wyborcza newspaper.

Police spokeswoman Joanna Lazar said local people had helped to rescue the sole survivor.

"We have established that just after the crash local residents came running towards the wreckage and helped to save one of the passengers from the plane. A 40-year-old man was taken to hospital."

Another witness, Robert Koziol, told Gazeta Wyborcza it appeared some of the passengers had tried to jump from the twin-engine plane.

"There were open parachutes lying on the ground," the retired police officer said.

"The worst thing was that one person tried to get out of it (the plane) but slid back inside. We tried to help them, but there was nothing we could do. Everything was on fire, even the ground," he added.

Police and prosecutors have launched an investigation into the crash.

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — Crews on Sunday will attempt to remove three Boeing 737 fuselages that tumbled down a steep bank and into the Clark Fork River in western Montana after a train derailed.

Montana Rail Link spokeswoman Lynda Frost said Saturday that it's unclear the type of challenge involved because it's the first time the company has faced such a task.

No one was injured when 19 cars from a westbound train derailed Thursday about 10 miles west of Alberton. The cause of the derailment is under investigation.

The train carried six fuselages. Three others also fell off but stayed on land. Frost says Boeing has had workers at the scene assessing the damage.

The fuselages were headed to Renton, Washington, to be assembled into completed airliners.

6/17/14 By David Beasley of Reuters

ATLANTA (Reuters) - The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating an air traffic controller's joking remark that caused a Delta jet to abort a landing at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Flight 630 from Detroit was approaching a runway last Wednesday when a controller told the pilot: "630, go around," instructing the plane to circle the airport and attempt another landing, according to audio aired by Atlanta television station WXIA.

The controller then quickly said: "I'm kidding Delta 630. Delta 630, you're clear to land," according to the recording.

The pilot replied: "You sent us around. Delta 630 on the go."

The Boeing 777 landed safely on its second approach, the FAA said in a statement. The agency would not release a copy of the audio.

"An air traffic controller instructed the pilot to make a missed approach, then quickly canceled that clearance and re-cleared him to land," the FAA said on Monday.

A missed approach is a safety procedure that pilots or air traffic controllers can initiate if they determine a landing cannot be completed, according to the FAA, which did not indicate such a precaution was needed for Flight 630.

The plane was about 1,000 feet (300 meters) off the ground when it aborted the first landing, WXIA reported.

Kinda like when you buy a car and before buying it you never see one around and after you buy it, there all over the place in parking lots and passing you on the street or turning in front of you.

Well, Thursday July third at minutes before 10 pm I stepped out on my front deck and turned to look at the half moon when I see a bright light passing under it and as I looked close, it was moving at a fantastic rate of speed to the northeast.

In all my skeyeballing, Never have I seen a bright light travel that fast across the sky. I see a lot of lights out there, here, but never moving like this one.

And for armap, no it was not a meteor. I just know his brain is going to trick out something.

;D

That happened to me once, as I found it strange. Some time latter I signed up to get alerts from SpotTheStation (http://spotthestation.nasa.gov/) for when the ISS passes over me, and the first time I got an alert and was waiting for it to appear I saw that it was the same thing I saw some months before.

I don't know if you can see if the ISS passed above you at that time on the above site, but I'm sure there are some sites that have that information.

Edit: try this site (http://www.heavens-above.com/).

I knew your brain would snap into the reverse reality.

No, it was nothing earthly made that we know of with the speed it moved across the sky. It moved like nothing I seen before.

Did you look for a July third 10 pm iss fly by and did it roll over wisconsin at that time in a northeast drive by

Have you ever seen the ISS moving across the sky?

No, you should do that using your own coordinates or the place closest to you.

No, since whats ever up there, I can't see it down here.

Well, you tossed it out here, so, you should do it.

Tell your opinions I'm sorry, it was not my intention to traumatize them, they shouldn't take things said in any conversation as seriously as that.

QuoteNo, since whats ever up there, I can't see it down here.
(I'm not sure I understand what you mean by that, but here's my answer. Sorry if it's the wrong one)
Some satellites are easily visible, and the ISS, with 50 or more metres long solar panels, is, in the right conditions, visible as brighter than a high altitude aeroplane.

QuoteWell, you tossed it out here, so, you should do it.
I thought you could use this opportunity to learn something new by yourself, but OK.
After using Wisconsin as the location (I used more or less the centre of the state), these are the brightest (magnitude 3.0 or brighter, Polaris, the star used to found the north, has a magnitude of 2, smaller numbers mean more brightness) that could be seen on July 3.
No ISS above you. :)

Armap, from my perspective you are like a kid with ADHD.
(this isn't a criticism either)
You just see what is obvious to you and blurt it out.
For some people (including me on occasion) that is quite annoying, but please don't ever change.
People like you, keep places like this, honest.
Of course, one day you'll be wrong, and I hope I am there to point it out!
Unlike many who have your skill, you seem to be using your power for good.
Although you are quite vicious to a false concept, you do seem to try and respectfully help the person who is afflicted by it.
Gold for you today.

But I gotta ask, if Gigas din't see the ISS what did he see? :c)

If it wasn't a criticism, it was what? ???

QuoteYou just see what is obvious to you and blurt it out.
Isn't that what all people do?

Thanks, I guess. :)

Wrong in what? In saying that I once saw a bright light and found out some months later that it was the ISS? Or wrong in posting my opinions? ???

And, being a programmer, I am constantly shown to be wrong by the code I write. ;D

A "false concept"? Sorry, I don't understand it. ???

I don't have the slightest idea, but that's why I always try to remove the "knowns" to see if something is a real "unknown", otherwise we could spend lots of time talking about something that could have been easily identified without knowing it. In this case, that site shows that there wasn't any (known) satellite brighter than Polaris flying above Giga's place, and, according to Giga's testimony (in which I believe, as I never doubt what people tell me, unless I know them to be liars, which is not the case), it wasn't a meteor either, so, to me, that remains an unexplained event.

observation, only people who don't understand ADD would think of it as a criticism.
no, some people definitely don't have any interest in promoting accuracy and truth.
you're welcome
wrong in what you write, as opposed to being right all the time!

Planes in 'near miss' at Barcelona airport

A plane spotter captured footage appearing to show the moment two aeroplanes almost collided at a Barcelona airport.

An Airbus 340 is shown crossing the runway at El Prat Airport as a flight from Moscow is coming in to land. The pilot of the Boeing 767 from Russia then aborts the landing.

The plane then lands safely on the runway shortly afterwards. Officials have denied passengers were in danger at any point.

QuoteOfficials have denied passengers were in danger at any point.
I'm sure they weren't, as the plane was just crossing (why does the plane crosses the runway? :P ), but it doesn't look like a safe way of doing things and the other pilot did the right thing, avoiding a possible accident before being sure it would end in an accident.
