Given the love of doom porn that I know exists in this forum, I'm amazed that no one has yet made a thread about the current Gianna Michaels of the subject, Ebola.

Here's StormCloudsGathering's coverage of the topic, complete with everything you need to know, in order to reach that coveted state of full blown, shrieking hysteria. Nibiru and Fukushima were for amateurs; if you want real apocalyptic doom, Ebola is the only way to fly, baby.

I saved the very best part for last, too. The U.S. Patent Office actually has an Ebola listing.
http://www.google.com/patents/US20120251502
Now why would there be a patent for the Ebola virus, you might ask?
Maybe we could ask him.
yes ,yes,yes,doooom.so awfulll and negative.
i was waiting on you petrus to start the thread.
i was trying earlier today to find out if flies carried ebola.we could end up with fly swarming ebola.A TRUE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE.
DOOM ON!!!
I think the mosquito as a carrier would be far worse than flies!
Yep she's definitely ill, look at that awful swelling ;D
That patent is for a recently (2007) found variation of the virus, not for the virus responsible for the present situation.
According to an article posted earlier today on MSN entitled "5 things you should know about Ebola" it is strikingly similar to HIV and AIDS, since it is transmitted by exchange of body fluids...
also considering it has been around for 40 years, I see little point in getting excited about it...
again, according to the article, the main reason it is causing havoc now is mainly due to relatives of the patients signing them out of hospitals and in general not using good sense...
seeker
man i was getting a doom on,now yall ruined it.

Not exactly like HIV, as the Ebola virus is able to spread in all body fluids while HIV is not.
QuoteHIV is transmitted by three main routes: sexual contact, exposure to infected body fluids or tissues, and from mother to child during pregnancy, delivery, or breastfeeding (known as vertical transmission).[2] There is no risk of acquiring HIV if exposed to feces, nasal secretions, saliva, sputum, sweat, tears, urine, or vomit unless these are contaminated with blood.[29] It is possible to be co-infected by more than one strain of HIV—a condition known as HIV superinfection.[34]
Source (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HIV/AIDS#Transmission)
QuoteEbola then spreads in the community through human-to-human transmission, with infection resulting from direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes) with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected people, and indirect contact with environments contaminated with such fluids. Burial ceremonies in which mourners have direct contact with the body of the deceased person can also play a role in the transmission of Ebola. Men who have recovered from the disease can still transmit the virus through their semen for up to 7 weeks after recovery from illness.

Ebola appears to be much more resistant out of the host's body than HIV.

I'm a big fan of the movie 2012.
One of the sayings is when the gov says don't panic, that's when you run.
Well ABC world news now just had a guy downplay Ebola and state ''most of all, don't panic''.
Been nice knowing yall.
I find it interesting that the United States 'just happens' to have a secret serum to cure Ebola. That serum would certainly be useful if our troops were to encounter a weaponized form of the disease.
"It started as rioting. But right from the beginning you knew this was different. Because it was happening in small villages, market towns. And then it wasn't on the TV any more. It was in the street outside. It was coming in through your windows. It was a virus. An infection. You didn't need a doctor to tell you that. It was the blood. It was something in the blood. By the time they tried to evacuate the cities it was already too late. Army blockades were overrun. And that's when the exodus started. Before the TV and radio stopped broadcasting there were reports of infection in Paris and New York. We didn't hear anything more after that."

Considering ABC news a bastion of well...non newsworthyness...anything they say is likely opposite of common sense...
oh crap..Thor got room for two more?
I would welcome all My friends with open arms, but I cannot guarantee comfort. [grin] 16'x16' does not go far.
What seems to be scarier about this ebola is that it passes through personal protective gear as if it were not there at all... (And kills most of the people whom it infects, leaving just a few to continue propagating the virus).

Do you have any source for that information about Ebola passing through protective gear? It's the first time I see that.
The mortality rate is around 54%, I wouldn't consider that "most people".
I do.
If you research the subject you will too.
And in my native language 54%, as it is the greater fraction, would be expressed as "most people" or if you prefer, "the majority".

ArMaP, the actual mortality rate of this outbreak will not be known until all is over. Right now, the rate is just a function of how many have been infected so far, and how many have died...........so far! I certainly would hope for a 54% rate, but the prior outbreak rates are much higher.
Here is an applicable reply I posted in another thread that states the mortality rates of the prior 14 outbreaks:
"The past 14 Ebola outbreaks have "averaged" a 78.5% death rate from the same "Zaire strain. In some of the outbreaks the rate was up to 90%. Here is a link to a chart of past Ebola outbreaks, with various specific data points."

My interest in this subject is not enough to make me spend any time researching it.

Sure, 54% is more than half, but when we say "most people" here in Portugal we are usually talking about something like 3/4 or more.

Obviously, but one or two weeks ago I think I heard it was 56%, so, if I'm not mistaken, it's not getting worse, at least for now.
Comment was below my usual standards, unneccesarily arguamentaive and condescending towards armap's reply and has been redacted.
Apologies to anyone who may have read it.
Fruitbat.
P.S. CAn you guess which well known flying mammal is the carrier of the ebola virus? ;D
The linked article should answer your question, Armap.

After reading that Zerohedge article I could only see opinions, not facts, so I will add it to the "opinions" stack. :)
Yesterday I saw on Euronews something that reminded me of the "virus passing protecting gear" idea; someone from a pilot's union (or something like that) was saying that they are telling people not to accept flights to the countries affected, as (I think it was) Air France gives them a face mask to protect them from being infected but those masks protect only for 24 hours, then they start losing their protective action.
I will look for the video.
Edited to add that the masks only work for 5 hours and to add the link to the video.

Or if our troops were to use a weaponised form they would be safe. I bet they have a few of these serums. ;)
