I hate to distract from such heady issues as which gang of goobers runs the nations this month, year or century....but it seems the true master of our future has a thing or two to say as well.

(updating display currently shows 2 in the low X-class and one right on the M/X threshold line within the last 2 days)
Then again, perhaps its just burping to clear something. Who knows....but its been relatively quiet for a good period of time now. Flat lines on both indicators more often than not here lately. It appears its waking up again, if only for a short time.

Isn't it interesting, that in our supposedly "advanced state" of intelligence and knowledge, we still really know very little of the reality of even our own star. Yes, we have watched it enough and recorded what it does to now track it like we track the seasons. But then it goes into an extended quite spell, and we do not know why. We know that on intervals it reverses polarity, but when one pole reverses but the other doesn't for a long period, we don't know why.
I believe our star, the Sun, is a perfects example of another post you recently made on the subject of "Assumptions" - The science community bases much of what they present and report about the sun upon theoretical "assumptions" made on the basis of watching the "Sun dance" over a long period of time. But one thing for certain - the Sun is truly "THE KEY ELEMENT" to life on this planet, but, if one/any of those super X flares is aimed/shot directly toward Earth, then "Houston, we do have a problem", for the which we are not well prepared...........

It's interesting but not that surprising, if we remember how long have we been really studying the Sun. Yes, we have been looking at it for ever, but we have only a handful of decades of scientific study, so it's no surprise that we have much to learn. :)
Anomalous solar activity has been contributing to global warming for at least the last 20 years now. Try mentioning that to the climate change activist crowd, however, and you'll be lucky not to get yourself killed. They think that climate change denial is exclusively the domain of the Right who just want justification to carry on polluting as usual.
Both solar activity AND human activity, combined, are causing the warming trend.
I like the way Armap phrased it. We have been looking at it forever. I used to hear my teachers in school. It didn't mean I was always listening. Reading my chemistry textbook didn't always mean I was studying. Thank you ArMap.
