This is interesting to watch. We're dealing with a bug that, until recent months, has been categorized and handled in a very specific way, by direction of the very agencies now demanding all that be ignored, thrown out and disregarded. It's coming by demand of politicians in the White House, over the judgement and sense of individual state executive decisions.
Anyone else consider the fact that in now taking direct and overt action to lower the level of response, a failure to contain this (if that happens) will come down DIRECTLY on the shoulders of those who ordered those accepted and time tested measures be disregarded?
This will be interesting to watch, but I have never seen a National leadership push to reduce response to something like this with an urgency only seen in high political priorities these days.
I fully understand the returning doctor's bitching about her treatment. After reading her details and lengthy account, it isn't just idle whining about quarantine (a condition COMMONLY used where she was just helping victims). The response at the airport was disorganized, haphazard and slipshod all the way around. I'd be shaken for confidence in the process too, after what she walked into for a Chinese fire drill run by mental midgets. However.....is that reason for politicians to call other politicians and demand measures be altered for what politicians insist are medical issues? (The stories on this are very specific to say they were White House officials and Presidential aides laying on the pressure to drop effective measures here).
I hope they are right...but I am happy with one thing. With these actions? Specific individuals are now, by name, attached to actions and decisions which will either go well or spectacularly bad. "Everyone is at fault so no one is to blame" will fly about as far as a brick out an upstairs window if this one goes bad. I wouldn't give a wooden nickle for the odds Christy or Cuomo waste a moment, if it goes badly, defending a 2yr lame duck and his loyalists.
Personally? I want a Surgeon General back in this nation, so we have the medical professional our nation is intended to have for just such an issue. That way, politicians aren't micromanaging things for their own vote numbers at the expense of human lives.
Even the common flu can kill people it didn't have to....if idiots are handling an outbreak with their head up their tails.
