Apparently hate crime legislation is about to be abused to protect police. The law defines a hate crime as, "criminal offense against a person or property motivated in whole or in part by an offender's bias against a race, religion, disability, ethnic origin or sexual orientation."
Notice that there is nothing in that definition about occupation. We are entering potentially very, very dangerous territory, here.
Didn't see THAT one coming :P
At least there are still a few Sheriffs around that we can count on

Didn't they try to do that with the official 9/11 story? make it illegal not to believe it?
So what exactly would constitute "speaking out against the police?" I can understand threats and such being a problem, but if someone hears me say that I don't like Officer Smith, am I going to the pokey? Or in my case, will they dispatch animal control?

It seems simple Shasta56...
If they say to you:
Jump! >:(
And you answer:
I dont feel like jumping at the moment... :-[
Thats a hate crime right there. Afterall, you dont say an orange is orange if the police power say it is green. ;)
In other words, dont disagree with police/choose your words very well. ::)
