Title: Is It Possible...
Post by: Amaterasu on February 14, 2012, 01:53:45 AM
I was wondering if it was possible to have the thread start date listed by the thread starter's name in the list of threads.  (I like seeing when a thread was started...)

If it is too much effort or too unimportant...never mind.  [smile]

I hadn't noticed that. I'm not sure how to remedy it so I'll find out.

Thanks, Pim.  No need to make a big fuss if that's what would be required.

Ask HERE   http://www.simplemachines.org/

And get back to me :P

One important thing to know... if a change is made to the coding and you hit 'enter'... and the code has an error... it usually shuts down the forum :P  When that happens you have to reload a saved version.

What that means is that everything added AFTER the last save is lost... posts, PMs, new member sign ups etc...

The database is backed up daily just after midnight, but the 4000 plus forum files I only save them just before I attempt any changes.  I have 13gig transfer speed and it still takes about 28 minutes to copy the forum

SMF forums has a huge developer base but because it is open source not all the add ons always work :D

I learn more every time we get a snafu... but I am not fluent in php programming yet.  I still have not figured out where I need to add the coding for switching to UTF-8 characters.  I had it in the original version but when I upgraded the forum to 2.01... it seems the theme was no longer compatible.  The developer of this theme is no longer giving support... and there is already a 2.02 upgrade available

Welcome to my nightmare :D

BTW there are about a thousand themes to choose from including the default one. But several that we tried early on had errors and missing features.

The one we are using is an adaption of the World of Warcraft theme.. but I am only using one part of it, the one I customized.  I think a lot of the error messages are generated because the other files are still there in stealth mode :D

Hoo boy.  It sounds like a major undertaking.  Hardly one worth satisfying My general curiosity!  LOL!

I can always click the link to get My answer.  On My slow computer/connection, it's a wee bit annoying, but nothing I can't live with.  [smile]
