Police Assessing Al Shabaab UK Mall Threats

Islamist militants have released a video in which they appear to call for terrorist attacks on some of the busiest shopping areas in the UK and US.

In the footage, fighters from the al Shabaab group specifically mention Oxford Street, and give GPS coordinates for the Westfield shopping centres in Stratford and Shepherd's Bush.
US authorities have said they are taking the threats seriously, while the Metropolitan Police told Sky News its Counter Terrorism Command is aware of the video and is assessing the content.

Is Vladimir Putin Attempting To Provoke A Conflict In Europe?

In recent months, rhetoric against Vladimir Putin over the conflict in Ukraine has stepped up. Many in the West are becoming increasingly concerned about Vladimir Putin's perceived expansionist ambitions and fears are rising that Putin's ambitions extend far beyond Ukraine. In the last few days, matters have taken a very sinister turn.
In recent days and weeks, we have seen Putin seemingly deliberately increase tensions by sending Russian bombers to patrol the skies along the coast of the United Kingdom. British fighters have been scrambled in a number of occasions to intercept the Russian aircraft. On February 20, Vladimir Putin increased the tension over Ukraine further, saying that "no one should have any illusions that it's possible to achieve military superiority over Russia or apply any kind of pressure on it."

RAF jets scrambled more than 40 times to intercept Russian bombers

There has been a dramatic upsurge in threats from Russian military aircraft since the murder of Alexander Litvinenko in Britain in 2006

British fighter jets have been scrambled more than 40 times to deter Russian military planes encroaching UK airspace since David Cameron took office, the Telegraph can reveal.
Official government figures show the dramatic upsurge in threats from Russian military aircraft since the murder of former Russian agent Alexander Litvinenko in Britain in 2006.
Last year one in three times RAF jets were sent to monitor foreign fighter planes approaching British airspace was to block the Russians, Ministry of Defence statistics show.
It comes after David Cameron had to reassure Britons about the threat of Russian attacks after RAF planes were scambled when two Russian Bear bombers appeared off the coast of Cornwall.
