Is Free Thinking A Mental Illness?

Okay this is for all you people out there who think outside the box and  think you have a right to free will...

Your all SICK... well at least according to THIS report...

QuoteIs nonconformity and freethinking a mental illness?  According to the newest addition of the DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), it certainly is.  The manual identifies a new mental illness called "oppositional defiant disorder" or ODD.  Defined as an "ongoing pattern of disobedient, hostile and defiant behavior," symptoms include questioning authority, negativity, defiance, argumentativeness, and being easily annoyed.

The DSM-IV is the manual used by psychiatrists to diagnose mental illnesses and, with each new edition, there are scores of new mental illnesses.  Are we becoming sicker?  Is it getting harder to be mentally healthy?  Authors of the DSM-IV say that it's because they're better able to identify these illnesses today.  Critics charge that it's because they have too much time on their hands.

New mental illnesses identified by the DSM-IV include arrogance, narcissism, above-average creativity, cynicism, and antisocial behavior.  In the past, these were called "personality traits," but now they're diseases.

And there are treatments available.

So you evil free thinkers all have "oppositional defiant disorder" or ODD.  Now go turn yourselves in and get 'cured'

Didn't the American Indians call those guys simply " Contraries"  and then they just accepted them as they were.

I just adore a society that thinks that things need to be classified as a disorder or an illness. But it doesn't take much to see where this is going. You can't make a drug for something that Isn't an illness. So.........

suddenly.... things are illnesses that we not before and suddenly there is a drug company somewhere which has just what you need. For a price of course.

And naturally the ads on TV inform you that you need to talk to your Dr. and TELL HIM  that you need  this particular drug that you have just seen on TV because you have this disorder that you didn't know you had until the deep voice on the television told you.

Actually I think that the drug companies could give the " Military Industrial Complex " a REAL run for their money.   Linda
