I will be taking a friend on his first tour of The Gorge during his visit to the Great NW.
The beginning of The Columbia River Gorge begins at Crown Point lookout which has a spectacular view.

We then begin our journey to Multnomah Falls, which, if you take the old highway instead of the freeway, passes by several smaller yet equally spectacular falls.
The old highway is only about 8 miles long, so it is pretty wild to see so many falls in such a short area.

The Pacific NW is on our vacation agenda in about three years. My grandson will have his learner's permit by then, which will give us a third driver. Not to mention being really good practice for him. We need to get all of us passported too, since that's now a must for crossing into Canada. I want the grandkids to be able to visit the aquarium in Vancouver, BC.

Glad you enjoyed the view sky. It is indeed glorious.
As you have seen in the threads, I often tell members if you can make it out here, I will be happy to play host and tour guide.
That's what makes the difference in any vacation, having a local that knows their way around.
For you, I'll even throw in some local smoked salmon, smoked with a wine/maple brine. 8)

Well as long as your in BC, be sure to visit Victoria as well, not far from Vancouver. Very cute small old style town with very nice people and wonderful food.
Vancouver's population is primarily Chinese from Hong Kong these days, with the massive population and housing boom beginning back when the British returned Hong Kong to China, and the residents freaked out and began a mass migration to leave, because the Tiananmen Square massacre had just occurred shortly before that.
Canada had the most relaxed immigration policy of any country at that time, and so wound up with the lions share of escapees from Hong Kong.
The bonus for NW residents is now you can get food equal the quality of that of Hong Kong, without having to fly 13 hours. A vast number of cooks escaped and immigrated to BC.
I have eaten in both places and can vouch for the fact that the quality is equal now.
Bear in mind that I was in HK for 14 days and gained 12 lbs. :o
Obviously I enjoy quality Chinese cooking! ;D
Now then for the aquarium, doing a google image search on Vancouver's show it to be very nice. However, might I suggest a google image search on Oregon's Newport aquarium. As you will see, tough to beat that one.
Perhaps visit both? lol In any case you certainly don't want to miss Vancouvers' glorious food!
Besides, the drive up and down the Oregon coast is glorious as well. Little fresh seafood shops all along the way, with catches unloaded off the boat that very morning.
English muffin, sprinkle a little crab on top, sprinkle some cheese on top of that (fresh from the Tillamook cheese factory of course) and put it in a toaster oven for a few minutes and YUM! ;)
...and did I mention there is wine/maple smoked salmon? ;) 8)

I wasn't aware of the aquarium in Oregon. I've been to the one in Vancouver. Their Beluga whale was pregnant when we were there, and we caught the birth on live television a couple of months later. I want the grandkids to see Capilano Canyon too. And Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle.
Funny you should mention Tillamook. He husband graduated from Tillamook High in 1968. My father-in-law worked for the BLM, and was transferred there the summer of 1967.
