The Death of UFOlogy

The MURDERS on Trial

Well they should be, and a class action law suit to recover the money :P

From Frank Warren (he's pissed too)

MUFON Wisconsin Assistant State Director and Chief Investigator Mark O'Connell published a blog post Tuesday in which he requested the organization remove Roswell Slides promoter Jaime Maussan from its list of speakers for its upcoming annual symposium. O'Connell, who is currently composing a book on the life of the late ufology icon J. Allen Hynek, additionally requested that MUFON ban Maussan and his beWITNESS colleagues Tom Carey, Don Schmitt, Richard Dolan and Anthony Bragalia from its future events.

"There is no place for these people at any gathering that is meant to further the cause of serious UFO study," O'Connell wrote in a message to MUFON International Director Jan Harzan published in the Tuesday blog post.

MUFON has long been under fire from a wide range of sources for what many interpret to be a blatant disregard of its mission statement, "The scientific study of UFOs for the benefit of humanity." More discerning members of the UFO community have frequently voiced strong objections to the organization's choices of speakers given the claimed mission, and the latest decision to offer Maussan a platform is bound to draw more criticism. The theme of the 2015 MUFON Symposium is billed as, "Expanding Ufology: Opening NEW Doors in Academia, Industry and Media."

"Maybe we need to shut a few doors while we're at it," O'Connell wrote in response to the theme.

This writer appreciates O'Connell's initiative. Let MUFON and O'Connell know what you think about his request and the related issues by posting your comments at his recent post, 'Eradicating the UFO Pestilence'.

Eradicating the UFO Pestilence

John Lear once called it "UFO Disease"  The need to make up stories to keep your audience coming back

Seems it has reached epidemic proportion

You know how everyone keeps saying the members of the Roswell Dream Team should be banished to UFOlogy Siberia for their roles in the Roswell Slides fiasco? Well, last night I noticed that Mr. Jaime Maussan is a featured speaker at the MUFON 2015 Symposium this coming September, and so I decided to do something about it. I decided to write a letter to Mr. Jan Harzan, International Director of MUFON:

Hi Jan,
I'm the Chief Investigator and Assistant State Director for MUFON Wisconsin, and I have a request to make concerning this year's Symposium.

No doubt you have followed the sad saga of the Roswell Slides hoax, and so you must realize how inappropriate it would be to have Jaime Maussan appear at the 2015 Symposium. In light of the apparent duplicity and/or ineptitude of Maussan and the others involved, I would like to formally request that Mr. Maussan be removed from the speakers' roster. There is simply no way that MUFON can seriously present one of the perpetrators of the Roswell Slides fiasco as a speaker at this flagship event and retain any credibility. How can we say MUFON is dedicated to "The Scientific Study of UFOs" and then let a man who has just done immeasurable harm to our work come speak at our Symposium?

I would like to request further that from here on out, Mr. Maussan and his colleagues Tom Carey, Don Schmitt, Richard Dolan and Anthony Bragalia be banned from all MUFON events. There is no place for these people at any gathering that is meant to further the cause of serious UFO study.

Thank you for your time and attention,
Best regards,
Mark O'Connell

I haven't heard back from him yet...

I had no idea Dolan was promoting the slides.  If he had any sense he would have seen that one coming a mile off!

You still hear UFO buffs talking as though Adamski was credible.  The whole scene is screwed.

Back at ATS I posted some documents I got from the DTIC  about the CIA/UFO psyops.  I tried DTIC but don't have the file names. I know I saved them but I haven't got to sorting the PDFs yet

Posting this as a reminder to moi

Maybe it means the death of UFOlogy as we know it now, but that may be a good thing. :)

Those bad people do not represent ufology as a whole,

so therefore, it does not mean the death of Ufology as we know it.

Getting rid of the bad parts is a good thing :)

Maybe not :P But most of the good guys have said "fvck it" and moved on.. The baddies have so outnumbered the good that you waste 90% of your time chasing hoaxes. I haven't even looked at a video in ages

Even the anomaly hunters are flooded with people seeing cities in small pebbles

Quoteso therefore, it does not mean the death of Ufology as we know it.

Can you define "UFOlogy as we know it"?

I was quite shocked to find that Nick Pope is a big skeptic  :P

Won't happen though... the Mulderites want them to stay  Maussan is going to be guest at that MUFON symposium  you watch...

Maybe we should show up for a Medieval style welcome... with rotten tomatoes :P

Cultural and social engineering.

There are real UFOlogists too but they are not much to do with the public perception of UFOs.

Yes lots of problems indeed but there's at least two kinds of UFOlogy, the serious kind and the entertainment kind and the trick is being able to recognize the difference so not to waste your time.

QuoteCan you define "UFOlogy as we know it"?

Well if your talking about the serious kind of UFOlogy then yeah defining is easy ...

Ufology is the study of reports, visual records, physical evidence, and other phenomena related to unidentified flying objects (UFO). UFOs have been subject to various investigations over the years by governments, independent groups, and scientists.

QuoteI was quite shocked to find that Nick Pope is a big skeptic  :P

Since he was working for the MOD, really it should be expected.

QuoteWon't happen though... the Mulderites want them to stay  Maussan is going to be guest at that MUFON symposium  you watch...

Yep seems likely especially since they seem to like the sensationalism ...

"It went off the charts the last couple of weeks," says MUFON executive director Jan Harzan, who was definitely pleased with the net effect. For one thing, he says, "Our membership grew 20 percent." He also says the shows have convinced additional witnesses, including military and law enforcement, to step up and spill.

Presumably Mausson was speaker in 2015?

If yes then that is amusing (unfortunately the 2016 Symposium is up now).  Zorgon:  King and Prophet too.  ;D
