USING "CLEANSING" RHETORIC, FLORIDA MAKES OFF-GRID LIVING ILLEGAL

Quotet's no secret that an opposition to sustainable living exists. Earlier this year, Texas state brought several SWAT teams to a sustainable community and threatened to shut it down. Each one of the community members were initially handcuffed at gunpoint. It was called "The Garden of Eden Community," and was totally self sustainable. You can read more about that here.

This time, it's Robin Speronis who's come under fire. She lives off the grid in Florida, completely independent of the city's water and electric system. A few weeks ago, Florida officials ruled her off-grid home illegal. Officials cited the International Property Maintenance Code, which mandates that homes be connected to an electricity grid and a running water source.

As Off the Grid News notes, "The International Property Maintenance Code is used in communities throughout the United States and Canada. The code states that properties are unsafe to live in if they do not have electricity and running water. Speronis has electricity and water. She gets running water by collecting rainwater and electricity from solar panels." Officials in the city of Cape Coral deemed her home "unsanitary," Al Jazeera reports.

Two 55-gallon cisterns collect all the Florida rainwater Speronis needs for drinking, bathing, and flushing waste. The city told her it was illegal to disconnect from municipal pipes

The battle to live without most utilities has been ongoing for Robin. The self-sufficient woman has lived for more than a year and a half using solar energy, a propane camping stove and rain water.

In the end, she was found not guilty of not having a proper sewer or electrical system; but was guilty of not being hooked up to an approved water supply.

Living Together Unmarried Is Illegal In Florida, Hundreds Charged

QuoteIt may come as a surprise to most Floridians, but living together while unwed in the Sunshine State has been against the law since 1868.

WCTV reported in 2011 that almost 700 people had been charged under the obscure law since 2006, and half a million couples were breaking the ordinance by living together.

While there have been efforts to repeal the law, Florida Governor Rick Scott (R) has remained silent on the issue.

In addition to cohabitation offenders, the law also punishes cheating wives and husbands with a fine of $500 or up to 60 days in jail.

In 2011, state Rep. Dennis Baxley (R) told the Sun Sentinel, "I'm not ready to give up on monogamy and a cultural statement that marriage still matters."

The Associated Press reports that state Sen. Eleanor Sobel (D) recently wrote a bill, SB 1070, to repeal the law.

Sobel's bill would also stop judges from preventing parents, who are guilty of breaking the law, from being in contact with their kids.

In Florida it is illegal to fart in a public place after 6pm on a Thursday.

QuoteWhich means chilli night must be Fridays. This law calls to our attention the issue of enforcement. How would an officer of the law be able to prove it was you who farted? Is there some legal version of 'he who smelt it - dealt it', that we should be aware of? If it exists, we couldn't find it.

Kansas signs sweeping welfare crackdown

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback signed legislation Thursday that will make it illegal for welfare recipients to spend public assistance dollars in movie theaters, tattoo parlors, lingerie stores, and dozens of other places deemed inappropriate by the state - like on cruise ships.

The new law - believed to be the strictest in the country - concerns the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program in Kansas, which is designed to help families struggling with short-term financial hardships.

I've been wanting to take my grandkids to Florida, to visit the Space Coast, but maybe that will just go to the bottom of the bucket list.

Way back in 92 I was down by the Miami cruise ship lines where they dock in port. The highway has an off ramp to the ships and many a hobo lived there under the bridge
and it was scary looking at these throw aways staring at you and pan handlin something or other. Most people that go homeless are mentally challenged and you never know what's gonna happen around them. They have nothing to lose so could be up to doing anything to rob or beat or kill others.

In L.A. once in china town I was picking up toys at a small import business. This out fit had big metal gates across the alley to keep the bums, hobos, and homeless out. So I get one a the china men to open the gate and the hobos and homeless are crawling all over the place. The alley was tight so I had to drive up the alley across the street and back in to the toy import alley to get loaded.

I pull my tandems up tight on the trailer so I can maneuver easier. Pulling in the alley truck first and there is a large card board box sitting on the corner of the alley which my trailer tandems will run over if I go any further. I get out and yell back to the bums to kick the box over but they yell and wave back, go ahead, your ok. I go naw, kick the box out of the way. So one guy does and out comes two people smoking crack in that box.

I kid you not.

I can see why the municipalities are making laws to keep this under control.

Florida has a large population of nomads living on the streets and crime is wild with drugs and murder.

Like in the movie "THEY LIVE" the homeless are rounded up by the alien forces and herded off. That movie was from 1988 and says alot.
