Title: Potential for another aviation disaster?
Post by: spacemaverick on October 11, 2015, 07:27:32 AM
Well, we had flight MH-17 over Ukraine...do we have a potential for another disaster with Russia fighting in Syria?

Long-range missiles prompt safety bulletin to airlines flying in Iraq, Iran and over the Caspian Sea.

Hopefully they will not be directed anywhere near these areas by controllers.  "The International Civil Aviation Organization, the U.N.'s air-safety arm, said Friday it had been informed that some carriers had opted to take alternative routes.

Early Sunday, aircraft continued to cross the Caspian Sea and the busy north-south route over western Iran that connects the big three Persian Gulf airport hubs to Europe and the U.S., according to Flightradar24, an online airline tracking service. However, it also flagged a shift by airlines to direct more aircraft over Saudi Arabia and Egypt rather than Iran."

We don't need anymore innocent civilians getting killed.  Still no published conclusion on MH-17.

Potential? I suppose we have, depending on who wants something like that to happen.

As cruise missiles fly low (usually) the warning said exactly that, that missiles may be flying below commercial routes. It was only an information, with no recommendations.

You can read the bulletin here (http://ad.easa.europa.eu/sib-docs/page-1).

I understand that indeed.  MH-17 was flying over a conflict area above a combat area supposedly in a safe zone and it was shot down somehow.  We still don't know what really happened.  I guess there is always a chance that something like this could happen.  Watching this area of the world very closely.  I think Russia may have used Ukraine as a test of sorts to see if Obama would really do anything...(one of the purposes anyway).  Syria is an ally of their and they would serve 2 purposes taking the side of Syria.  Just hope nothing happens to any civilian airliner in these areas.
