GRAVITATION UNDER HUMAN CONTROL
Science fiction soon to be science fact
André Füzfa from the University of Namur has proposed a method to produce and detect gravitational fields, and says it's achievable with current technologies.
PRODUCE AND DETECT GRAVITATIONAL FIELDS AT WILL USING MAGNETIC FIELDS,
CONTROL THEM FOR STUDYING THEM, WORK WITH THEM TO PRODUCE NEW
TECHNOLOGIES—IT SOUNDS DARING, BUT PROF. ANDRÉ FÜZFA OF NAMUR UNIVERSITY
HAS PROPOSED JUST THAT IN AN ARTICLE PUBLISHED IN THE PRESTIGIOUS SCIENTIFIC
JOURNAL PHYSICAL REVIEW D. IF FOLLOWED, THIS PROPOSAL COULD TRANSFORM
PHYSICS AND SHAKE UP EINSTEIN'S THEORY OF GENERAL RELATIVITY.
At present, scientists study gravitational fields passively: they observe and try to understand
existing gravitational fields produced by large inertial masses, such as stars or the Earth,
without being able to change them as is done, for example, with magnetic fields. It was this
frustration that led Füzfa to attempt a revolutionary approach: creating gravitational fields at
will from well-controlled magnetic fields and observing how these magnetic fields could bend
space-time.
In his article, Füzfa has proposed, with supporting mathematical proof, a device with
which to create detectable gravitational fields. This device is based on superconducting
electromagnets and therefore relies on technologies routinely used, for example, at CERN or
the ITER reactor.
Although this experiment would require major resources, if conducted, it could be used to test
Einstein's theory of general relativity. If successful, it would certainly be a major step
forward in physics: the ability to produce, detect and, ultimately, control gravitational
fields. People could then produce gravitational interaction in the same way as the other three
fundamental interactions (e.g. electromagnetic and strong and weak nuclear forces). That
would usher gravitation into a new experimental and industrial era.
Until now, a scientific advance like this was a dream of science fiction, but it could open
up many new applications tomorrow, for example in the field of telecommunications
with gravitational waves: imagine calling the other side of the world without going through
satellite or terrestrial relays!

Füzfa describes the experiments, which he assures do not tap into the principles of 'new physics.'
In the first setup, large, stacked superconducting coils are used to generate an artificial gravitational field.
The second experiment detects the field through highly sensitive interferometers, which contain light-storing cavities in the arms.
The experiments so far have shown, weakly, that artificial fields generated by electric currents can be detected through a change in 'space-time geometry.'
The scientist writes that the effect is a result of the equivalence principle.
The experiment would require major resources, but if successful, it would give humans the power to control the 'last of four fundamental forces,' not within our grips.

So, it is based on superconducting electromagnets and CERN uses similar technology. OH look...swirly clouds! lol
And it has implications for communication. Who would have thunk it?!?!?!?! hahahaha

Dear Cosmo
I just wanted to say to you that even though I don't have any comments on your threads.. I completely enjoy reading them..they make me think and that is always good..

Gee thanks space otter. I just enjoy posting about things that interest me.
Here's those swirly clouds I was referring to. Probably cgi, but it looks cool. Any distortion of space time would be within the internal structure of the magnetic ring I would think, like Fuzfa states. I think he will get results with that approach.

How Current Loops and Solenoids Curve Space-time

The curved space-time around current loops and solenoids carrying arbitrarily large steady electric
currents is obtained from the numerical resolution of the coupled Einstein-Maxwell equations in
cylindrical symmetry. The artificial gravitational field associated to the generation of a magnetic
field produces gravitational redshift of photons and deviation of light. Null geodesics in the curved
space-time of current loops and solenoids are also presented. We finally propose an experimental
setup, achievable with current technology of superconducting coils, that produces a phase shift of
light of the same order of magnitude than astrophysical signals in ground-based gravitational wave
observatories.
We claim that such detection would open new eras in
experimental gravity and laboratory tests of general relativity
and the equivalence principle. These tests, although
concerning the weak field regime, will have the
particularity of focusing exclusively on the coupling between
gravitation and electromagnetism. Future theoretical
works should focus on extending the present study
to alternative theories of gravity to explore how far they
would depart from general relativity.
Such a detection of the space-time curvature generated
by a magnetic field in laboratory would constitute a major
step in physics: the ability to produce, detect, and ultimately
control artificial gravitational fields. And would
this technology be developed, it could lead to amazing
applications like the controlled emission of gravitational
waves with large alternative electric currents. Gravity
would then cease to be the last of the four fundamental
forces not under control by human beings.

So..something like this...looks doable...
