China Close To Creating 'Artificial Sun' That Could End Reliance On Fossil Fuels

Chinese scientists have managed to create a hydrogen gas that is three times hotter than the sun.
The artificial solar energy could eventually be used as an inexhaustible source of power, ending reliance on fossil fuels and solving the world energy crisis.
Chinese boffins created the gas in a huge magnetic fusion reactor at the Institute of Physical Science in Hefei.
Invented by Soviet scientists in the 1950s, the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) features a massive metallic doughtnut-shaped chamber twisted into a figure of eight.
Researchers were able to use the reactor to produce temperatures of 50 million Kelvins (49.999 million°C) and maintain them for 102 seconds.
The core of the sun is believed to around 15 million Kelvins.
Although a previous experiment by German scientists claims to have produced temperatures hotter than this, it was unable to sustain them for as long.
While the news is an important breakthrough, it could still take decades to perfect the process so that it can be used as a constant power source.

Must be some great metals they use making these artificial suns! Interesting!
do you think they're sore for not posting the news ? :D

Says in article:

Russia, Europe and the USA have been playing with these since then with no results
Want to make a small star, use HE3 fusion and a super powerful laser
Project Shiva Nova
Creating a Miniature Star on Earth
This was the project (one of them) that got me trown off Project Avalon because their star 'insider' had mentioned this as a top secret project that he couldn't talk about :P So I was kind enough to post the details :D
Seems Henry Deacon was pissed off that I actually had the facts so he could no longer BS about his 'special status' So he deleted my pages and banned John and I

Creating a miniature star on Earth: that's the goal of the National Ignition Facility (NIF), the world's largest laser. When completed in 2009, NIF will focus the intense energy of 192 giant laser beams on a BB-sized target filled with hydrogen fuel – fusing, or igniting, the hydrogen atoms' nuclei. This is the same fusion energy process that makes the stars shine and provides the life-giving energy of the sun. NIF is a program of the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration.

I don't see the point of these fusion projects. We have enough electricity and more on the way especially if we ever develop some really good batteries to hold watts from wind and solar. Having lots of electricity doesn't affect cars and trucks until we get that battery tech.
Russia (and maybe China) already have breeder reactors that can go on almost indefinitely, admittedly with careful management of waste and safety.
Strange if Russia invented it, or something similar and we get this article referring to China being indicated as being close to creating it..and the article also refers to Russia's involvment..and its been around since the 1950s.
Not sure if its a form of Fusion how this compares to Nuclear power...as it also seems like a design to harness Solar energy...
If its something relatively safe..and works or creates a good reliable way to generate electricity or power.... then it seems a promising things that maybe we have been suggesting as an alternative energy source..
"Z"...Was Project Avalon a forum that had ref to Kerry Cassidy and Bill Ryan...
I can see the website is still going and a picture on there reminded me of who I thought was Bill Ryan..

Solar energy is collecting radiation from the sun and converting it to electricity
Fusion is what the Sun does to make energy :P It fuses hydrogen into helium
A tokamak (Russian: ???????) is a device that uses magnetic field to confine plasma in the shape of a torus. Achieving a stable plasma equilibrium requires magnetic field lines that move around the torus in a helical shape. Such a helical field can be generated by adding a toroidal field (traveling around the torus in circles) and a poloidal field (traveling in circles orthogonal to the toroidal field). In a tokamak, the toroidal field is produced by electromagnets that surround the torus, and the poloidal field is the result of a toroidal electric current that flows inside the plasma. This current is induced inside the plasma with a second set of electromagnets.
The tokamak is one of several types of magnetic confinement devices, and is one of the most-researched candidates for producing controlled thermonuclear fusion power. Magnetic fields are used for confinement since no solid material could withstand the extremely high temperature of the plasma. An alternative to the tokamak is the stellarator.
Tokamaks were invented in the 1950s by Soviet physicists Igor Tamm and Andrei Sakharov, inspired by an original idea of Oleg Lavrentiev.
Helium Fusion specifically HE3 is very efficient with almost no shielding required and no radioactive waste
Helium fusion is what the sun will do when it runs out of hydrogen

Wonder if it looks anything like this?
