Marijuana in Space – NASA Discovers THC on Meteorite Fragment

A team of astrophysicists at the University of Hawaii have created somewhat of a stir within the scientific community after the discovery of trace amounts of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) on a meteorite found in the Nevada desert in 2010.
The team of researchers who analyzed hundreds of meteorite fragments in search of microbacterial data found the presence of Tetrahydrocannabinol in trace amounts, the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabinoids, a class of diverse chemical compounds that are found in a variety of plants, but most famously in the cannabis plant.

The study, that is funded in part by a NASA grant for research in astrobiology, is the first documented find of a psychoactive organic compound originating from outside of the Earth's atmosphere, a discovery that could revolutionize our modern view of psychotropic agents and their "cosmic" origins, admits astrophysicist James Han, head of the research team.

The discovery was clearly unexpected, admits the astrophysicist specialized in astrobiology.

"These findings will have a profound impact on the science of astrobiology as a whole" admits the scientist, visibly perplexed by the discovery.

"If psychoactive elements are found outside of this planet's atmosphere, what does it say about the rest of the universe? If these chemical substances, that change brain functions and result in alterations in perception, mood, or consciousness in mammals as well as humans, find their origin in outer space, what role then has cometary impacts played on the human species? Or on life on the planet as whole? This discovery ultimately leaves us with more questions than answers"acknowledges the professor.

"It also gives a whole new meaning to the term getting high" he told local reporters, with a pinch of humor.

Traces amounts of Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) were also found in a meteorite fragment in 2009 by a research team from the University of Mexico but the findings were dismissed at the time because of the "controversial nature of the discovery" and a wave of skepticism from the scientific community. Further analysis of the sample could now shed some light on this latest finding, believe experts.

Psychoactive Compound THC Found in Meteorite
Wednesday, February 17, 2016
It has been said that the universe is not only stranger than we imagine, it is stranger than we can imagine. But now it's entirely possible that the universe itself may very well affect our imaginations...

A team of astrophysicists tasked by NASA with finding indications of microbacterial life on recovered meteorites has found traces of the psychoactive chemical Tetrahydrocannabinol -- better known as THC -- on a sample taken from a meteorite found in the Nevada desert. Typically found in psychoactive plants such the cannabis plant, this unexpected finding is the first documented case of the chemical being found from an origin outside of Earth's atmosphere, and could prompt a change in our approach to the origins of otherwise planet-bound psychotropic agents.

Marijuana in Space – NASA Discovers THC on Meteorite Fragment (Hoax)

An internet hoax created by satirical website NotAllowedTo.com claims that Astrophysicists from the University of Hawaii have discovered Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) on a meteorite found in the Nevada desert in 2010. The satire article titled "Marijuana in Space – NASA Discovers THC on Meteorite Fragment" claims that "researchers who analyzed meteorite fragments in search of micro-bacterial data found the presence of Tetrahydrocannabinol."

The satire article further states that "Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) were also found in a meteorite fragment in 2009 by a research team from the University of Mexico but the findings were dismissed at the time because of the "controversial nature of the discovery"."

This is not true. Scientists have never found traces of marijuana on any meteorite. The initial "Marijuana in Space – NASA Discovers THC on Meteorite Fragment" article is published by satirical web publication NotAllowedTo.com. Not Allowed To is a satire web publication whose purpose is to entertain by using shocking headlines. This insert can be found on their about page:

"NotAllowedTo.com is intended for entertainment purposes only. Our website and social media content uses the most notorious urban and satirical entertainment news with the most shocking headlines and articles."

While this hoax is completely nonsense the website is not malicious like other websites who produce fake news articles. However, sharing fake news does not do anyone any good.

The purpose of this satire web publication and fake news article about marijuana being found on a meteorite is designed to gather website traffic off of false information. It uses a provocative title in order to cause anxiety, shock, or intrigue unsuspecting online visitors to visit the website. More traffic for the website means that more people are likely to click on Cost-Per-Click advertisements embedded into the satire website. More traffic will also raise the impressions for a given webpage and help the website generate a higher volume of revenue off of the unsuspecting reader. It's a cruel way to make a quick buck!

Well I was heavy in thought how do you get the stuff without the plant!
I was thinking pot smokers picked them up and didn't recognize meteors they looked for "to high' :P So threw them down!

Yeah it was extremely low budget and difficult to sit through even 1/2 hour of it. 1/2 hour of my life I will never get back.
