Title: Will you become a citizen of Asgardia, the first nation state in space?
Post by: Pimander on October 12, 2016, 11:28:15 PM
Welcome to Asgardia

Since the dawn of time
humankind has strived to reach into the unknown,
to achieve the impossible and to do the unthinkable.

People have populated all of planet Earth, explored every corner and flown into the
atmosphere and beyond. Travel to other planets will occur in the foreseeable future.
It is thanks to the inquisitive nature of past generations that humanity has continually evolved.

And yet the science which allows such marvelous
advances is not always a priority for society at large.
Economical and political considerations often take precedence over purely scientific
ones and ethical boundaries are considered necessary to sustain safety.

Modern evolution and intellectual progress can best serve the humanity when decisions
are taken primarily on a scientific basis. In the future our children and grandchildren will
take for granted what for us is unimaginable.

Asgardia will demonstrate to scientists throughout the world that independent,
private and unrestricted research is possible. Its first prototype satellite is planned for
launch in 2017-2018.

Asgardia - named in honour of
an ancient mythological city in the skies - will offer an independent platform
free from the constraint of a land-based country's laws.
It will become a place it in orbit which is truly 'no man's land'. Welcome to Asgardia!

Another interesting science fiction concept. I wonder who will write "the book(s)" as this program develops?? Could be a series, much like "Harry Potter", or "Captain Horatio Hornblower".

I only have one simple question - how can a collection of any group of individual males and females in any place, on planet or off, possibly be so different in actions and relationships than are the normal human collections?? Sounds like a fairy tale society to me - "a free and unrestricted society", with man himself and all of mans short comings doing it, in building a utopia of science!! ???

If it happens as intended it will take a long time.  I'd prefer to aim high than settle for mediocrity.

Have you heard about the semi-secret group that became the Royal Society?  The aims are a bit like that.  Interestingly, one of the most religious members sound dismissive.  Religious attitudes are the reason the early science movement was semi-secret.  :)

:) ;) Wasn't intending to sound "dismissive", but rather suggesting realist thoughts. "Aiming high" has strong intentions, while the purity of aiming high is only found through the reality of knowing that every "bullet fired" does/will hit the ground of the planet/orbital station at some point! :)

Relative to the Royal Society - No, I haven't studied any of the various "secretive societies"- just never have found that such to hold any interest for me relative to what I believe to be the truth.

Or perhaps some scientists know something most people don't.  Look in the background of the picture and you might notice a "bullet". ;)

If we'd called it the Kingdom of God would you be in.  ;D

Pimander quote, "If we'd called it the Kingdom of God would you be in.  ;D

;D .........well, thanks to Him I am already in His Kingdom, and I will be for a very long loooooong time!! Everything else that happens is strictly relatively short-term temporary, whether on or off this planet!  8)
